If not, you need to get into skiing condition with Down Under Sports & Fitness club for our Dutchmen exclusive Ski Conditioning classes. See the ad in this issue for more information. If the gym isn t your thing, there is always cycling and running to keep you moving until the lifts open! Exercise helps me to stay on the slopes each season. My goal is to ski into my 80 s like Dick Mosser! Dick works out regularly year around to be able to ski. Do you? The first meeting in November is Winter Sports night. Sue McMullen has lined up vendors and dozens of ski resort representatives. They will bring us to date on what is happening at each slope this winter. Winter Sports night is our largest attended event. As always, we end with great door prizes, so don t miss being at the CANAL STREET PUB on November 6th! That means we are getting very close to some local flurries and soon snow-covered mountains! Please join all of our Happy Dutchmen Travelers by signing up on our available trips for the 2015 season. I hope our leaders have heard from you throughout September and our trips are continuing to fill. You will not be disappointed on any trip, as it is a tradition to have lots of fun with our groups while traveling and skiing. Please check out our website for any additional information needed about our trips. You will see the dates listed in this issue. Please make your payments in a timely fashion to your leaders. It is best to send payments to the addresses given on the trip flyers, and when in doubt, please call or your leader(s) for the details. If you have not decided which trip or trips you would like to be a part of, now is the time! There is still some space available on most trips. Remember, friends traveling with you need to join the club if nonmembers, and perhaps you need to re-new your membership. Do not delay! A new addition this year for midweek skiing is to utilize our own Trippin Cherylene Shollenberger TEAM HOPE (Helping Other People Everyday) lodge, hopefully with a group ski gathering once each month for a night or two! You will provide your own transportation and perhaps carpool with others to the lodge. Tentative dates are January 13-15, February 10-12, and March 3-5. What fun this could be! It will be a minimal $10 or $15 per night per skier, and I am sure we can munch on snacks or foods brought as potluck and include a variety of beverages. You will hear more about these plans at future meetings. I am very happy to announce that Lisa Hoch, , will be our coordinator for these local trips to ski Jack Frost, Camelback, and possibly Montage mid-week. We will work out details of buying lift tickets, probably left to individual choice, depending on the number of skiers who come forth for these winter outings. I can't wait! I want to thank our leaders and co-leaders for planning and marketing our trips. Please remember to thank them for their dedication to our club. The sooner we fill each trip, the more the leaders can do for you! The France trip is still filled with 44 participants and has a waiting list only. All the others, at this writing, have some space, but that could change quickly. Please join us! BON VOYAGE!!! Cherylene Team Hope will be selling Friend's and Family Day coupons for discounted shopping at Boscov's. The date is Tuesday October 21st ONLY. Please see Candy Secor, Carol Weller or myself for tickets. The cost is $5 and you receive 25% off most everything in the store. (Some departments discount 10% or 15%). 4 Lodge Paul Schwartz There are still a limited number of winter weekends available at the Lodge, but expect ALL weekends to be booked by the end of October. Don t procrastinate! Thanks in advance to those who helped out at Worker s Weekend. I ll give you a complete report next month. Fall is our annual clean-up we clean top to bottom, inside and out to prepare for the busy winter schedule. Lisa Hoch is organizing mid-week Lodge outing for this winter. You can reserve a bed for $15 per night, and ski with fellow Dutchmen. Watch upcoming Ski Trails for dates. This is a great opportunity to experience Jack Frost and Camelback without the crowds. Mid-week ski conditions are the best! Paul Social Director Patti Spitler October is a good month to slow things down on the social calendar. It starts with, Jim and me inviting you to our home for a HH on Friday Oct 10th. Like all other home HH, please bring a 6pk and a dish to share as well as chairs. Call me if you need directions. The BIG announcement for this month is the Dutchmen will NOT be having their own Halloween Party, instead we are invited to join in with the Evergreen on Saturday Oct 25th, the party is OPEN to the public and at NO charge. They are having music by UNCLE THIRSTY from 8-11pm. Food and beverages at your own cost. Get a gang and come on out and have fun! They're hoping to have it outside under the music pavilion, with the option to be inside if the weather does not cooperate. Costumes will be judged. We'll ease out the year selling Winter Carnival tickets at Winter Sports Night. Remember - Winter Sports Night is at the Canal Street Pub this year. We hope to have DISCOUNTED tickets that night ONLY!! The date is Saturday January 17th at Spring Mt and more information will follow as we finalize plans. Come prepared to work out and tune up those muscles for the upcoming ski season. Many of our members condition all year for snow sports so consider joining the classes to get in shape! The CPR program has been rescheduled for October 16 from 6:00-9:00PM with a break during the general meeting. Those members who were registered for the initial training will be offered the first chance sign up. There are 12 openings and they will fill up quickly. 5 FDSC Golf Outing - Sunday, August 24, 2014 Perfect weather for a round of golf greeted the 68 golfers who played at Green Acres Golf Course on Sunday, August 24th. The team of Ron Frey, Joe Schlaffer, Rob Benner, and Randy Schneck won the Low Gross Division with an outstanding scramble score of 58 (12 under par)!! Two teams shot a score of 61. After a match of cards starting at hole 12, the team of Dominique Ulrich, Brent Fenstermacher, Peter Galgano, and Bill Moyer took 2nd place, while the team of Colleen Columbo, Denny Oliviero, Skip Behney, and Scott Bansner took 3rd in the Low Gross Division. In the Low Net Division those teams with scores at par or worse were handicapped on the Calloway scoring system. Three teams ended up tied at a net score of 70 (even par). Again, on a match of cards, the team of Paul Sullivan, Damian Carabello, Dan Sullivan, and Stuart Sullivan was declared the low net winner, with the team of Jon Grossman, Bob Fehl, Kurt Fehl, and Ed Delaney in 2nd place, and the team of Deb Mervine, Clause Mervine, Kris Johnson, and Brad Shollenberger coming in 3rd. Closest to the Pin contests were won by Matt Lash (hole 2) and Bob Hipp (hole 13). Jim Dolan and Robbin Dolan won the long drive prizes for men and women on hole # 8, while Randy Schneck and Tina Hipp were the long drivers on hole # 18. This year the Pot of Gold contest on hole #9 was won by Skip Behney whose tee shot ended within the circle on the green. Skip received half of the Pot with the other half donated to the club s Team Hope, who participates in fundraising for non-profits throughout the year. Skip generously donated a portion of his winnings back to Team Hope. Many thanks to all those who entered and congrats to Skip! The club volunteers, Cindy Pietrowski, Sue Merkel, Dave Coffey, Jim Dolan and Jr Dutchmen Kara Sullivan and Ashley Fehl kept the golfers supplied with beverages and snacks between nines, with a great buffet catered by Blue Marsh Canteen after the round of golf. Extra prizes were awarded as door prizes. Please thank all the following businesses and individuals who generously donated prizes to our event: Green Acres Golf Course, Buckman s Ski & Snowboardd Shop, the Reading Country Club, Twin Ponds Golf Course, Pagoda Golf, Village Greens, Weikel s Screen Printing, Galen Hall, Blue Marsh Canteen, Fehl s Agway, Beverly Hills Tavern, Scott s Car Wash, Bowl-O- Rama, Island Pizza, Klinger s, Trooper Thorns, Lori Henne, Debbie Pasquale, Dave Yatsko, Sue McMullen and Nancy Dragan. (the Club ) is a year round skiing, snowboarding, sports and social club which sponsors a variety of activities, including skiing and snowboarding, for the benefit of its members.
