See inside for details! Hi Boys and Girls! As I m writing this, I m still smiling from all the fun we had on our First Tracks trip to Killington VT. I m sure I won t be the only one to mention it in this edition, but what a great group of folks we had for the trip. Huge thanks to Bob and Ann Fox for organizing it. The full day of snow showers on Sunday made for great conditions. I hope that everyone involved had as much fun as I did! What a great way to start the season! I m always amazed that it doesn t sell out immediately, so I strongly recommend it for next year. Now down to some business. We are looking for new ideas to expand membership in the club, and increase member participation in our events. We also are looking for ideas about events that you would like to see us get involved with. We have increased our public exposure in the last year, setting up at the Buckman s tent sale, the Guts and Glory event at the stadium, starting a Meet-Up group, and hopefully by the time you read this, instituted FDSC Valet Parking for our Tuesday night lesson program. We ve reached out to other groups, high school ski clubs, etc. attempting to find areas of common interest. If we put our collective thinking caps on, we should be able to come up with many more ideas. So, what do you think might help? Please share any and all ideas with me at president@fdsc.org I promise the Board will take a close look at any proposals. What events would you like to see? Indoor gokarting night? Ice skating at Body Zone? Pickle- Ball? Indoor Climbing Wall? Another Wallyball night? Suzanne has gotten a few responses to her questionnaire, but everyone must have an idea. Share with us. Let s try to make 2019 the year we have more fun than ever! See you on the slopes! Check for updates at march ski trails deadline Wednesday, Feburary 6th Dave McFarland President Support Our Ski Valet Program at Bear Creek. Benjamin Caldwell Scott Cronin Ashley Cronin Angela Duen Richard Greener Zbigniew Lipski Minal Patel Michael Roberts Suzanne Roberts Noreen Robinson Christian Schlegel Chelsea Seidel Kirk Silas Greetings all! Wow, we re nearly half way through the season and time is just flying by. All we ve been missing so far is WINTER! Hopefully you ve got yourselves and your equipment dialed in, and you re skiing and riding like madmen and madwomen. First order of business for ALL racers is the Troege s Cup Inter-club race at Ski Roundtop, Feb.10th! Lancaster Ski Club hosts this fun event. Race is at 12:30 and registration is open until 11:00, so you won t even have to wake up at some ungodly hour to race! Our lesson program s only got a few Tuesdays left, and then it s time to come out for the Club Race and Carving Out Cancer Benefit Tues. Feb. 26th! All club members, if you can ski down Timberline at Bear Creek, you CAN race! No FIS legal skis or speed suits required. Categories are from never/ever through seasoned racer. There will be lots of fattening treats for sale for the benefit in the lodge, too. RACE FORMAT: Only your first two runs count (And that s all the club is paying for;) and times will be totaled. If snow conditions permit, a dual course set-up, and you must take one run on each. There is a new Club Race registration form on our website. Just click on Race Team and race forms. Print it, fill it out, and bring it with you to the race. This is much less hassle than doing it the night of the race in the lodge or in Timberline race shack. Same goes for NASTAR registration. Sign up in advance and you ll be to the starting gate a whole lot quicker. If you ve never registered, just go to nastar.com, two minutes and it s done. Anywhere that you care to race from then on, all you ll need is your Reg. number. EVERYONE needs to try the club race! The EPSC Cup Race is at Elk Mt. Sun. March 10th. Come out and race with the Dutchman for the Club Team Championship. This is always a good time and Elk is well worth the trip. Please note that the deadline for NASTAR Nationals qualifying is Feb. 18th. Love to see a few FDSC racers at Squaw Valley, CA this year, April 4th through 7th. Race Team shirts are here! Sizes from Youth to XL available. New race team logo can also be embroidered on your favorite jacket or vest. PLEASE contact me for details. I will be posting the latest updates and results on our social media sites as they become available. That s: FDSC and FDSC Race Team FB pages. Look for early season race results in next months report. As always, please contact me with questions, comments, or complaints. See you at the starting gate! competition Cheers Chris Berns Competition Director 2
3 Club Race & Carving Out Cancer Benefit Tuesday, February 26th at Bear Creek Baked Goods Needed Contact Suzanne Claypoole Strive 212 past president Nominations for club officers will be accepted from the floor at the first meeting in February. I will also present a slate of officers as the report of the nominating committee (spoiler alert: all of the current Board members have agreed to serve another term). Even though we have a viable candidate for each position, please consider running for an office if you have interest in the job. We are always looking for fresh ideas! Although the local ski conditions have been disappointing so far, there is still a lot of skiing ahead. Contact me for passwords for discount lift tickets at Bear Creek and Jack Frost/Big Boulder for online ticket purchases. If anyone is interested in helping with one of these events, please let me know. Here are a few dates for upcoming events that you won t want to miss: February 26th Carving Out Cancer and the FDSC Club Race at Bear Creek. Skiing the course helps you become a better skier and it gets the adrenaline pumping and it is for a great cause! We will also be having a bake sale in the lodge and I am looking for contributors and volunteers to work from 6-9pm. Please let me know if you can participate.
