I would like to welcome you to VA Atlantic for Spring I am looking forward to a fun event filled season of kickball. This will be my 9th overall season of kickball, and 5th for WAKA. For those that played last fall, you might remember me as the guy with the magic iphone on Special Sauce. If you haven t met me in person, you can probably recognize me with my signature orange bandana on my left leg (which I will continue to sport). I want to let you know that I am here to serve you and to keep things running as smoothly as possible. My goal is to not be seen, but to help run this league as smoothly as possible. We will once again be playing at Red Mill Park (located at 1900 Sandbridge Rd.) and will have 2 3 field playing every week. Please keep in mind that this is a city run field and there is to be no alcoholic beverages on the premises. I am really excited about this upcoming season, and I hope that you are too. So strap on your cleats, get out your eye black, and have some fun. If you have any questions, feel free to me at any time and I will get back to you as soon as I can. 3 Atlantic Bay Homies Captain: Rebecca Giampe Fall 2009 Record: N/A All Time Record: N/A Division Championships: N/A Rebecca Giampe and her team are out to have some fun and maybe get you into a new house by the season of the season.. The Atlantic Bay Homies are a new team with the VA Atlantic Division and are corporate sponsored. Our company, Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group, LLC is a leading mortgage lender in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The Homies are bringing to the field a mixture of WAKA and (other kickball leagues) veterans, as well as some newcomers, which makes for a diverse and energetic team. We are a fun loving group, but don t mistake us as a bunch of kick overs! We might be new to this hood, but we are hungry to make a name for ourselves on the mean streets of WAKA. Remember when you play us, we are a force to be reckoned with on the field, with one goal in mind: dominating the game. See you there, where we will see if you are rollin with the Homies. After a bone breaking fall 09 season balls and dolls are back and ready to kick some ass, or at least drink some beer, We welcome back our fearless leaders, Paul (on the ball) Donnelly & Jay (got something to say) Lewis! Also members who escaped injury and returning for the FUN: Alan & Dawn our resident Ken & Barbie Love birds Shawn & Missy Don t you mess with my coach! Shauna Williams Dustin (I do have something under the kilt) Buchanan Lori (I might trip myself going to 1 st base) Donnelly Christina (our secret weapon) Drewry Jimmy (My hairstyle hasn t changed since the 80 s) Wetzel Chrissy (I come to party) Hayes Captain Paul Donnelly hopes his team can return from an injury plagued season and compete in 2010 Due to the sincere dedication of Washington s finest our team mojo took off the fall but HE IS BACK!!! Team loud mouth & spirit fingers Bobby & Kim Fields! Being redshirted last season due to the baby bump, Wendy Lewis will be back and out of shape! and finally after extensive search & recruiting, we found our newest victims Tonya Borman (YUP, that s right Balls & Dolls are keeping the tradition alive with our 1 st injury of the season, I mean preseason) Stolen from the sauce (Jenn) Karabinos Lisa Badalucco Stranger John Casey Davies & Mark Pierce We must take a moment and mourn the loss of our 2 favorite Gimps, Jay Reid & Buzz Hayes! Because of their intense playing & dedication we lost them to a broken foot & broken clavicle, we will play in your honor! Let s have some fun, drink some beer & maybe win some games! Page 3

5 Balls of Fury Captain: Shaun O Toole Fall 2009 Record: All Time Record: Division Championships: N/A Shaun O Toole apparently wanted to know what his love child with Billy Ray Cyrus would look like. Definitely no Miley Cyrus there. Page 4

6 Captain: Kearsten Lewis Fall 2009 Record: N/A All Time Record: Officially N/A, but they ve been around for awhile Division Championships: Officially N/A, but the Krackers have plenty booz klooz Those that have played in Atlantic before will recognize most of the players on this team. Last Spring they were known as the Krazy Krackers and took home the crown, beating the less than adored Third String All Stars in the championship game. This year they assemble under a new name, retiring the Kracker franchise, when the last founding member retired. Captain Kearsten Lewis and twin brother Kyle Lewis, no strangers to championship kickball, will be ready to go with fresh new athletic talent. Twins Kearsten and Kyle Lewis have the talent and the experience to win it all. Let s just hope they stay sober enough. Page 5

7 Funky Toe Jammin Captain: Brad King and Christy Daly Fall 2009 Record: N/A All Time Record: N/A Division Championships: N/A Captains Brad King and Christy Daly aim to show everyone what fun they can have while kicking some bootay at the same time. Hmmm what can be said about Funky Toe Jammin. Well, here we go in a nutshell Our team started and was formed with 14 of our closest friends in just one day. (And thanks to WAKA, we ve been graced with a few new friends on our team!) We like SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS. We frequent the same sushi place and bar almost weekly. We roll in shopping carts. We talk to strangers. We shake tail feathers...so hard that we molt. We throw bags till 4am and piss off old neighbors. We swim right after eating. We rep our college teams to the death if necessary. We fist pump. None of us have ever played kickball outside of 3rd grade. Whoa what?! Yes, it s true. We re new. Now, some of you may be glad to hear that one, but, I caution you with kindness. Not only are we fun and outgoing party tigers, but we are athletic (minus one of our captains, Brad) and we have heart. So, while you may think you re gonna come kick our asses all over the field, beware. When all else fails, we re just gonna tackle the hell outta you. After all, kickball is kinda like football right? Or was that softball? Shit Page 6

8 Kick Brawlers Captain: Jessica Doll Fall 2009 Record: N/A All Time Record: Division Championships: N/A Last Spring the Kick Brawlers had an impressive season and are ready to wow the competition once again. The core of their lineup will be returning from last season while the dead weight was eliminated. Many newcomers will be joining in on the domination of the other teams. They are ready to take it all the way this time without any broken legs or face sliding. Their goal is to have fun and actually show face at Lendy s after games. 9 Special Sauce Captain: Donna Merritt and Jaried Frogosa Fall 2009 Record: All Time Record: Division Championships: Fall 09 Led by Donna Merritt (Boss of the Sauce) and Jaried Frogosa (A 1 What!), Special Sauce is back for their second season with some familiar and new faces! As the Division Champs we feel there may be expectations of us but we have lost some players and gained some too! We are returning with players like Kate (Sweet and Sour Sauce), John (2 sexy 4 this sauce), Wayne (Sauce Quatch), Nadia (Russian Dressing), Rob (aka Paco), Reno (Chile Relleno), and Kim (Grey V). With additions like Bryan (Au Jus), Gerry (Fish Sauce) and Danny (Cold Beverage) and many others we should not be underestimated. We are looking forward to a fun time playing a great game with great people! Sunday Funday here we come Page 8

14 Each season WAKA divisions across the country, including VA Atlantic, participate in charity efforts chosen by the division members. That means YOU get to choose the organization that will benefit from our fundraising activities! Your VOTE counts. This season, we have three charities in mind: 17 Month Old Lucas Tate 17 month old Lucas Tate was diagnosed June 21, 2009 at 7 months with ALL ( Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). He was admitted to the UCLA medical center in Los Angeles for 4.5 months for aggressive chemotherapy. It is very uncommon for an infant, much less a child under 1, to be diagnosed with ALL. The treatments were more condensed (3 year treatments crammed into 1 year) and his parents have taken turns living at the hospital while trying to take care of Bradley Tate, their 7 year old son. Lucas was only able to come home a few days at a time before he would have to be rushed back (usually by ambulance) due to serious infection and septic shock. Lucas has had a semi permanent IV stitched in to the center of his chest for weekly lab draws and chemo administration. He does have to go to UCLA for chemotherapy and regular clinic visits at least weekly. He undergoes spinal taps and bone marrow biopsies monthly. This has also caused the family to have to take a leave of absence from their jobs in order to take care of Lucas. VA Atlantic player, Carissa Eschner, is personal friends with this family and petitioning the division for fundraising efforts to help them during their financial struggle while getting the care Lucas needs. The VB Noblewomen are a branch of The Noblemen and participate in charities that effect local children. VB Noblewomen will be sending approx. 10 (5th) graders to summer camp with YMCA this summer and hosting a free surf camp and swim camp for kids. 16 Ghostman on Third Volume 1, Issue 1 MTVs The Real World NEEDS Matt Barcus The GMOT Staff would like you to join in on the task of sending SPECIAL SAUCE s own MATT BAR CUS (Barcus Q) to MTV s Real World. The entire history of The Real World has only been a lead in to the point where Matt Barcus joins the cast. It's like he was created in a secret government lab so that he could be on the show. Kim Merritt He was put on the planet to do yard work and give me a headache. Just saying oh yea and amuse me. like a dancing monkey. You should google "monkey fist" from Kimpossible. That what my little sister used to call him. she thought he looked exactly like monkey fist! Kate Barcus not sure if mtvs the real world is really ready but it damn sure would be the best!!!!!
