This really sucks. Here I am, 12:00 am trying to write this rotten ass President s message and my buzz is wearing off. When will ed. Get off my butt about getting this darn thing in on time...you d think there was a deadline fer Christ s Sake! Well June really ratcheted things up a notch...for Fathers Day got my daughter an son-in-law to go fishin with me, they caught their first Trout and Bass on a fly rod! Two more hooked on fishin! The Club Outing to Fall River was a blast...of heat! Triple digets and no shade on the river. Fishing was so-so and aggravating with them slurpin the bugs all around you. But the Lodge was excellent, gained some poundage on all the red meat consumed in three days! Watched Jay step or Mis- Step out of the boat and walk on water for about 3 seconds...and did you know Muddy River Classic #3 ( that Bob Marini, with the right amount of wine, will sing show tunes all night? Yup! Me neither...finished off my month with Fishing in the Burney and McArthur area were I lost count of the number of planters Chris and I caught. Drove by Hat creek this month twice, wish I had stopped. With all the fires from last year raging through and burning out the brush, there are sections that haven't seen a human in years that are wide open. Stopped by the campground to get a fishin report and he told me he had caught 75 fish that day! On Hat Creek! If you get a chance you have to head up there...whew, July here we come. Looking forward to seeing you all at the Annual BBQ. Have a great time planned and am looking forward to all YOUR fishin stories. Till Then, Da Prez If you don t get it right the first time, what do you do? That s right and when it s worse the second time, well. You do it again and by God, we re going to keep doing it until we get it right. We re sure we got it figured out, but you re going to have to be there to see for yourself. This is multifaceted, self customized event. You can make it a weekend long camp out, an overnighter, a day long marathon, a short giggle and go home or just come for the dinner and the raffle. Plan to show up anytime on Saturday morning. The first official event will be the pontoon boat races starting at 11:00 am. This will be followed be the casting contest, then comes casting for distance and fly tying. After we fill up on libations and snacks, we ll have the barbeque (somewhere around 3:00-4:00). Following chicken, garlic bread, Swiss sausage and all the fix ns, we ll have the grand raffle featuring: custom fly rods, new waders, float tubes, a guided delta stripper trip, a custom built landing and a ton more. We hope that you ll make a point to come on out and join in. If you need directions call Jay or one of the board members. All their numbers are listed right here on this page. Remember, this an event for the whole family. So bring the wife, the kids, Uncle Ned and you best friend Walter.

2 Page 2 Fly Times What s going on in the world of fishing? Who s been fishing? Fly of the month: Wiggle Tail 52 Weeks of California Fly-Fishing 1. Lake Almanor 2. West Fork Carson 3. Tuolumne River We are in the season. This is the time of year that we all wait for, so don t wait too long. However, Number 1 on this month s list sort of falls into that category. It s a place that you may already have waited too long for, but, none the less I put it in because It is still fishing well. The Small Mouth fishing is among the best in California. More significantly, Almanor is best know for Hex hatch. Late evening hatching Hexaginia Lambata is the larges of the mayfly family, easily measuring 2 inches from bow to stern. Number 2 on the list is the West Carson. Its on the list for two simple reasons, Easy access, and generous planting. Aside from that there are a number of other neat places to fish in the neighborhood, including: the East Carson, Red Lake and Indian Creek Reservoir. Upstream from Sorensen s lodge you have a beautiful meadow stream that get skinny in the summer and you ll likely have company. As it drops down along Hwy 88 toward Nevada, it turns into beautifully secluded pocket water. Normally the fish are small native rainbow, but the wild card are the lunker Rainbows that DFG has a habit of throwing in from time to time. Number 3, the Tuolumne is a perennial favorite that I ll just say: You shouldn't overlook. Pattern: Jay Fair s Wiggle Tail (B/O) Hook: #10-12 Scud Hook Thread: Black 8/0, 6/0 Tail: Burnt orange Marabou Body: Burnt orange Crystal Shuck Hackle: Burnt orange This fly is also tied in a variety of other colors: olive, brown, tan, etc A Few Reports A few reports have trickling from club members. The word is that the Merced is still high, expect it to start to come into shape late this month. Manzanita produced a few browns and is as pretty as a place can be. Everybody should do it a least once. The Owens is reportedly fishing well. The folks who went to the Fall River caught really hot weather but not much else. Battle Creek (thru The Fly Shop) produced beautiful, big Rainbows. Lake Christine was a little off and no longer has the huge Rainbow that it did a couple years ago. A report from lake McCumber says that DFG is no longer planting it and the fishing for the Browns is pretty spotting, plus the lake is getting pretty mossey by now.
