4 AIMS BOYS FUTSAL We had a great week, the boys played a variety of game plans and learned quickly to play with structure and purpose. We were tied top of the table in pool play as we had 2 draws and 3 wins but missed out, on the top 16, on goal difference. We finished unbeaten and were tied for 17th out of 44 teams. Thanks to the awesome parents for their support and Colm Kenny for helping out during the week. Back row: Mr Davis, Mitchell Skipage, Jake Workman, Nathan Marlowe, Cade Richardson, Archie Mutch, Colm Kenny Front row: Dylan McDowell, Maui Tetai-Tenas, Eben Arnell AIMS INDOOR BOWLS Our team of 18 played singles and pairs throughout the week, needing 3 wins from 4 to advance to post section play in both events. 305 players entered the singles with 106 qualifying. 150 teams entered the pairs, with 56 qualifying. 6 AIMS CROSS COUNTRY WAIPUNA PARK SUNDAY 9 TH SEPTEMBER The cross country team got MMI off to a great start for the week. The competition had some great runners over a tough 3km course. Sean was joined by Adisen Mahy (5 th ) and Macka Wagstaff to take out the gold medal in the year 7 boys team event. Unfortunately, we lost to Saint Kentigern boys team, but in the end we got 2 nd place out of 26 teams. SILVER MEDAL! We went down to Feilding Intermediate, however the girls came back to win a tough game against St Columba s Catholic School, where we ended up 3rd in the B Grade. The girls displayed great skills and teamwork both on the court and off during the week. A huge thank you to all our whanau, friends, supporters and MMI staff and students who supported our team throughout the week. From left: Holly Bathgate, Keilani Tiopira-Horne, Madison Beattie, Emersen Irwin, Olivia Hala, Stella Herrick, Jaime Pederson, Tyra Wetere, Lahkaia Reriti, Helena Campbell and Ivy Mitchell

13 AIMS FOOTBALL I played football during AIMS week, which was held at Gordon Spratt Reserve in Papamoa. Our goal, going into the week, was to improve on our 22nd place finish in We had seven games to play over the first three days. We won five of our games, drew one and lost one, to Tauranga Intermediate. We then won our next game, which put us in the top 8. Unfortunately, we again lost to Tauranga in our next game but we won the following game, which meant we were playing off for 5th/6 th, on Friday, against Sacred Heart, who were the tournament favourites. We won that game which meant we had come 5th out of 64 teams in the AIMS Games. We had equaled Mount Intermediate s best ever finish in boys football!!! From aiming to beat 22nd place, to coming 5th place, the 2018 Anchor AIMS Games was certainly a great experience with lots of highs and lows. Although I would ve liked to have beaten Tauranga Intermediate. By Tay Ririnui Back row: Simon Bryant (Coach), Flynn Skipage, Arlo Cullwick, Zac Bryant, Jacob Rolleston, Jonty Burggraaf, Tay Ririnui, Haki Argent, Ashton Pellow, Finley Stanelun, Jordi Langton (Assistant) Front row: Sebastian Heath, Tristin Kawana, Luke Devine, Reid Tong Absent: Maia Ririnui (Coach)

14 AIMS SQUASH Well done to our 3 squash players Emma Merson, Libby Price, and Tommy Power. All three had successful weeks, with the highlight the girls securing a bronze medal in the teams event. AIMS TENNIS Last week Luke Blow played tennis at the Anchor AIMS Games. The first day was great with Luke winning both his games. He lost his round of 32 to the 8 th seed, 1-2, after a great battle. He then played well to end up 20 th overall. AIMS GOLF Well done to both Nathaniel Walding and Lachlan Kidd, who competed in golf at Omokoroa, Te Puke, Tauranga, and Mount Maunganui courses, throughout the week. AIMS CANOE SLALOM AIMS BMX Ruruku Keogh (right) competed well in the canoe slalom with a top time of Well done to Cole Campbell (above) for competing in the AIMS BMX competition. AIMS SWIMMING Monique Bartlett and Braith Swanberg both swam well in the swimming. Braith made the 100m butterfly, and 200m individual medley finals. Thank you to Emma Hacker for all her help with the team throughout the campaign. AIMS HIP HOP Our team competed very well, with an outstanding routine on the Monday night of AIMS, to finish a very close 5 th. 16 AIMS BASKETBALL 2018 A huge thank you to Joe Broughton, Ritchie Taylor and Anna Walker for the amazing job they did this year training our boys team to the level where we have achieved our best ever result of 3 rd.now this is out of 72 teams; our previous best of 5 th was achieved out of less than half that number of teams so it was truly outstanding. The boys all played magnificently and once we got out of pool play had some really tough opponents, and REALLY close results..nail biting but exciting viewing. In the time I ve been the teacher privileged enough to accompany the Basketball teams to AIMS, this has been the most polished performance our boys have given. We ve had individual players that were outstanding, but this TEAM were great the way they worked together and stuck to the plan and came from behind several times to take away the game in the last moments. BRONZE MEDAL. Outstanding effort boys. AIMS AEROBICS This year, the AIMS Aerobics team was made up of nine talented students, who worked together to put on a fantastic performance on Monday 10 th of September. Prior to the AIMS Games, the team competed at the Te Puke Gymsport Comp where they placed 1st an amazing result. Catalina Poblete Teirney (Coach) and I were very proud of their performances, as well as the time and effort the girls put into training. We believe they demonstrated our Coastal Values throughout their trainings and performances, and represented MMI with respect and pride. Well done girls!!!! The 2018 team was made up of: Jaime Pedersen, Marissa Gardner, Piper Gorman, Tiffany Knowles, Stella MacKenzie, Abby Lindsey, Georgia Parkes, Makayla Biggs and Maddie Abrahams.
