1 Winter Sport TERM #SVPSfortheWIN #LittleLegends 1
2 Message from Coach K What an incredible Term of Sport. From the very first day, the turnout of students on the sports field has been amazing. Players in the various age groups have been beautifully presented and have taken pride in their uniform, their time management, their respect and their school as a whole. Wherever SVPS have gone in Term Two, onlookers have simply said WOW. Visiting various sporting events, a comment I heard throughout the term is Sun Valley students and staff are always so happy, their sport is top drawer too maybe it s their no homework policy? As we look at each of the sports which compete in the leagues, we are bowled over by not only the quality of the results, but by the amount of teams playing week in and week out, the standard of play, the level of coaching as well as the impeccable manners displayed on the field or court. A highlight of the term was the magnificent Cross Country event. After a good season for our athletes, this spectacle capped it all off. Sun Valley had huge numbers finishing in the top 20 runners, often competing against 100 athletes per race. Netball has continued to excel as one of the leading sports in the school. One of the few schools that boast A, B and C teams. 90% of teams are unbeaten - WOW. Both the U12A s and U13A s set off on Tours during Term 2, and what a success both these events were. After a challenging pre-season Rugby campaign against strong Northern Suburbs schools, the Sun Valley boys have topped the co-ed league in virtually every age group. The U13A s set off on the school s first ever Johannesburg Tour this term, and it was a truly spectacular experience for all. The Hockey Boys and Girls have had a busy Term 2. The girls have played some top drawer hockey, and won the majority of their matches. The number of girls playing has increased and we have both an A, B and at times, C team per age group. The Boys have had an up and down season, with some superb results, as well as some disappointing draws and losses. We remain determined to grow as a hockey playing school. The Soccer Boys and Girls, have been simply superb. Without doubt, the soccer teams have landed right at the top of the Cape Town league in every single senior age group. Superb wins against neighbouring schools, schools from Claremont as well as Cape Town city centre - The Valley lads and ladies can simply do no wrong. Lastly, this term has seen Sun Valley Squash rise to fame. The boys have already made a name for themselves as a team to watch out for, and a definite 1st Team league title contender! Well done to our boys, girls and of course our supportive parents and committed coaches. 2
