You get back what you put in 10x over. The Denver Chapter of the American Singles Golf Association is the second largest chapter in the United States. If you're single and enjoy golf... this is the place to be! Looking for volunteer leadership for our Denver Chapter We are always looking for volunteers to help in running our chapter and continue as the strong chapter we are. Key volunteer positions are needed to be filled every year in the areas of president, social, golf, treasurer, secretary, membership and communications. Our elections are in November and you will take office in January. Are you ready for more fun, fellowship and fairways? Since its founding in 1992, thousands of people like yourself have joined ASGA. They wanted something different in their lives and the ASGA became a natural fit. There's something special about the game of golf. Spending 4-5 hours with three others in your golf group gives you plenty of opportunity to see what they're made of: How do they react when making that perfect drive? How do they react when they miss a three-foot putt... twice in a row? How do they conduct themselves when they run a committee meeting? Understanding human personalities is what makes life interesting. Adding all of this in with the beauty and serenity of a golf course and you've got the making for a perfect day. And, of course, everyone in our group is single. Get married and it's "congratulations and farewell!" ASGA is just the organization that will jump-start your social life and provide more opportunities to play golf. Our concept works. People find and build lasting relationship with their fellow chapter members. Your Denver chapter works with the national headquarters office in Charlotte in order to put all of the pieces in place. Volunteering has been vital towards our chapter's successful launch and long-term success, so please be thinking about how you will be able to contribute. Volunteering is just another way to meet other singles! Our goals are to have a great turnout at each meeting, to meet new people and learn what is coming up. Our socials are opportunities to meet and chat with others you may want to golf with. If you decide to serve as a board member, our Denver Chapter will reimburse your dues to you when you complete your year as a Board member. Assistant Board members and special assigned chairmen are not reimbursed. However, the assistants have a great chance to be voted in as Board Member Upcoming Multi-Chapter Events (see SinglesGolf.com/events) The Reunion in Pinehurst May 25-28, Return to the site of various U. S. Opens in the middle of North Carolina. Three nights, two rounds of golf + 2 optional rounds, dinners, etc. Details at ASGA in Ireland / Northern Ireland June 30 - July 11, Visit Dublin, Waterford, Cork, Galway and Belfast! We have over 40 who have already paid for their trip! The American Singles Golf Association, through its years of experience, has realized that there are three kinds of members: 1) those who like to organize and lead, 2) those who like to help out the leaders and 3) those who just want to participate. Please don't take-on a position of chapter organizer unless you're willing to spend a few hours each week making it a reality. There are FOUR key committees in every ASGA chapter. These Committees do the planning for the events or do the legwork that's needed in running your chapter. Volunteer today to help one of the committee chairmen, you will have more fun and meet more people in the group. If you're retired, I know you have the time. Why not give back to others and have fun doing it! ~Jay Robin Wren, President Social Chair We re off to a fun and active start on the social scene for 2018! More than 50 people attended April s monthly social at Zane s Italian Bistro in the Tech Center, wow! Great food, good time, and fabulous attendance. We don t keep records on such things, but I m pretty sure that was the largest attendance at a monthly social at least since I ve been part of ASGA! Some other recent events: About ten of us showed up at The Boardroom to watch the Colorado Avalanche s first playoff game on Thursday April 12th not bad for a school night. It was fun, but unfortunately we didn t get to see the Avs win until a couple games later. More than 40 of us showed up for an outing at Top Golf on Saturday April 14th! For the next six months starting in May, monthly socials are usually held at golf courses, which allows our members to combine their three favorite things into one fun night: golf, eating & drinking, and hanging out with single members of the opposite sex (haha)! This month s social will be held on Tuesday May 15th at 6 pm at Homestead Golf Course in Lakewood, approximately Kipling and Hampden/U.S. 285 (northwest corner). Come out and hear more about upcoming golf outings plus the following social events in the works for 2018: Dancing at the Hofbrau Saturday, May 11 Rockies Fireworks Game on July 4th (first pitch at 6:10 pm): Hard-limited to 40 participants. Now open for RSVPs. Curling: I reached out to the Denver Curling Club, mostly due to curiosity from the USA men s team winning the Gold Medal at the recent Winter Olympics. They have a program for newbies, but they re sold out until next season. So I m working to get something set up in September when the season resumes. Since the beginning of the year, we have grown by over 45. Come out, catch up with everyone and make a new friend! If you are one of our new members, welcome! If you have difficulty signing up, come to our next social and we will help you. ~Kathy Halva 18-Hole Chair SPRINGTIME IN THE ROCKIES Alrighty then, the first of May is coming up. My enthusiasm and wishful thoughts on the arrival of spring were once more misplaced. For at least the second year in a row we experienced a snow out of the scheduled April golf event. I might need to rethink the scheduling of an April golf event in the future. Sorry we missed out on Coal Creek. I will be looking for a date to rebook the course to make up for it. It might need to be a Sunday activity for us though because we are running out of weekends to plan stuff. I'll keep you all posted as I work things out. The deadline for signup for Bear Dance was last week so I have finished the pairings for our outing there on May 5th and have sent them off to Mark there at Bear Dance. I anticipate a great day of sun and fun. As you can probably tell it's one of my favorite courses to play. I hope you put yourself on the list to play. I know I saw an awful lot of the names of our newer members on the players list. Senior members (no pun intended), ok how about longer term members, please make an effort to introduce yourself and welcome them into our group. Coming up in June, on the 30th is our afternoon up at Evergreen. We ve had some good news on that front also. I got it switched around again up there and are back on to do a shotgun. The only other change is that we will be starting about 30 minutes later than we had originally planned. That's not a bad trade off though and should be worth it. I ll be turning on the pay portion of that site in the next week or so. Plan ahead and don't get left out. Put yourself on the list to guarantee yourself a spot. Be sure to save July 21st for Raccoon Creek, Aug 11 for Plum Creek and Sept 1st for the Air Force Academy. I still have Oct to plan for. I know we have had a learning curve to deal with concerning the newest format of the MeetUp site. FYI What you see and are able to do on the desktop version is slightly different, and more user friendly, than what you find on the mobile version. If nothing else give that a try. Are any of you still having difficulties when we turn on the payment portion? If so, send one of the event organizers a message and we can walk you thru it. The next thing I would like to cover is IF you find out you can no longer make an event that you signed up for please make the effort to take yourself off of the list so that 1) someone else can take advantage of that open spot and 2) the organizers don't have to expend the time and effort to track you down with multiple s to see why you are not paying etc., it's a simple thing to do. Please help us out, it will make our jobs so much easier. ~Barb Troxel 9-Hole Chair Well, it s finally that time of year who s ready for some golf? Spring is in the air and that means the greens are firm and the fairways are wide open. May is upon us and we ve got some incredible events lined up for the upcoming year. Our first 9 hole event of the year is a fun FAC out at Lone Tree GC on Friday, May 11 th. We ve got tee times reserved starting at 4:30pm, where we ll play the front 9 holes and then make our way to the outdoor patio for some food and drink. Then, on Thursday, May 24 th, we head out to one of our premier 9 & Dines at Arrowhead GC. We have a 5pm shotgun start lined up where we ll play the incredible back 9 holes and then make our way inside for a delicious Prime Rib buffet dinner. I have a limited number of spaces available for both of these events so sign up asap and we ll see you there.
