2 From Our Board President Summer is in full swing, and our golf course is looking amazing. Addison and his staff have gotten our course in the best condition I can remember in many years. Make a point to thank Addison and his staff when you see them on the course. Keep in mind that we will be doing our annual aerification the first week of July and the course will be closed for a few days during this process. This is a wonderful time to play some of our reciprocal courses. Make sure you contact the pro shop to arrange reciprocal tee times at these courses. The pool has been a popular place the last few weeks with the 90 + temperatures. We have had a lot of compliments on all the improvements that we have done to the pool chairs, tables and umbrellas. The pool sound system has also been upgraded, so now everyone should be able to enjoy the music without being blown away if you were right beside one of the old speakers. At the June board meeting the board voted on new interior and exterior painting contracts. The contractor that submitted the original quotes decided that his quotes were too low and didn t want the job, so we had to start from the beginning, which put us about a month behind. We should see some painting activity on both the interior and exterior in the next couple of weeks. All the old wallpaper will be removed and replaced with fresh coats of paint. We decided to go with a new color scheme recommended by an interior designer that will give the clubhouse a fresh look. Once the painting is complete, plantation wood blinds will be installed throughout the clubhouse. I can t wait to see the finished product. It is going to look amazing! We have eight new members that recently joined our club. Four of these new members are teen members, and it is great to see these younger golfers enjoying the game of golf and our club. We have multiple levels of memberships available under our current membership drive, and now is the perfect time to invite your friends as guests and to encourage them to become a member of our club. If you have any questions about any of these membership levels, get in touch with David or Dan Outlaw, and they can get you all the details. As many of you know, our Executive Chef, Jeff Stilley, is no longer with us. He decided to move out of the kitchen into a new endeavor in sales. Jeff had been with CCC for over eleven years, and we thank him for his service and wish him nothing but the best in his new career. Help me welcome Eric Nooe to CCC as our new Executive Chef. Eric will begin at CCC on July 12th. He is currently a chef at Ruth s Chris Steakhouse in Greensboro, and since he is from the Thomasville area, he is excited to bring his culinary skills and ideas to Colonial. I can t wait to see what Eric has in store for us at CCC! Make sure you put Labor Day Weekend on your calendar this year. We are planning a great weekend to celebrate our 60 th anniversary. I know many of you go to the beach that weekend, but I encourage you to stay home this year and help us celebrate our 60 th anniversary with a fun golf tournament and party. See you on the course!

3 From Our General Manager It is hard to believe it is July, but with this heat we know it is summer. The best place to be during this heat is poolside. We have another movie night schedule for Friday, July 13 th and this is a great time to bring the whole family and relax by the pool. Jeff Stilley, our Executive Chef,who has been here for 11 years, has decided to make a career change into sales. Jeff started at Colonial when he was 19 years old, so now he is ready for a new chapter of his life. He will be missed at the Club. We are excited to announce that Eric Nooe will be joining the Colonial family as our new Executive Chef. He is scheduled to start on July 12th. He is currently working at Ruth Chris Steak House in Greensboro as their Sous Chef. Even though it is hot, this is still a good time to come out for tennis. Kim Dillard has something for all levels of tennis. Stop by the tennis office to talk to Kim about what is going on. The kid s summer camp in June went very well and we still have spots available for the July camp. See the summer camp information in the newsletter for more information and call the Club to sign your child up. On a personal note, my mission trip to Kenya was a success. We saw a lot of progress there since our trip two years ago. It is through people working together that give people around the world a chance at a better life. 14 Massages with Tiffany Tiffany is available for appointments on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Please contact her for available appointments. Types of Massage Sports Massage- This deals with injuries or tight muscles that are related to any type of activity. It can help the body recover more quickly from an event or help performance during an event. Deep Tissue Massage- This deals with the deeper layers of the muscles. Can be used when there are tight muscles or pain in a specific area. Swedish Massage- Usually a full body massage designed to promote relaxation and helping to flush toxins out of the body. Oncology Massage- This deals with clients who have or have had cancer and cancer treatments. Special precautions are needed when dealing with this clientele. Pre-natal Massage- This is for females who are pregnant. It is very relaxing and helps to release tight muscles associated with pregnancy. Therapeutic Massage- This encompasses many different modalities that will help the client feel better, release tight muscles, flush out toxins and provide a general sense of well-being. 15 Mark your calendar CCC 60th Men s Member-Guest August 3-4 Entry Fee $625 per Team Format: Texas Scramble both days with the flight winners playing a best ball shootout to determine the overall winner. (Each player must have a GHIN number to participate.) Play will be from the white tees unless you are over the age of 65 and your partner is over the age of 65 If both team members are over 65, you may play from the gold tee. If you would like to play a practice round on Thursday, please call the golf shop to make a time. There will be a cart fee for each player. We will also play a gross and net game. Check in and registration will begin at 5pm on Thursday. Calcutta will begin at 7pm. Play will begin at 1:00pm on Friday. Play will begin at 9:30am on Saturday followed by the shoot out. On Saturday night, The Limited Engagement band will be playing. We will be ing out full details for Member-Guest shortly. Please call the golf shop to sign up. Fill will be limited to the first 40 teams. You will not want to miss out so please call right away to reserve your spot.

16 Golf News We would like to congratulate Sam Terry on winning the US Kids Carolinas State Championship! The tournament was held at Firethorne Country Club, where Sam shot to win by two strokes! He was one down with four holes to play, but finished strong and shot one under on his last four holes. This is the fourth US Kids tournament that Sam has won since May 27th! He won on May 27th at Pinehurst No. 8 with a nine hole score of 38. Then he won on June 3rd at Pinehurst No. 5 with a nine hole score of 35. Then, on June 9th he won at Pinehurst No. 3 with a nine hole score of 38. Ben Miller, PGA Head Golf Professional I would like to remind everyone about our glow golf event on Friday, July 13th at 9pm. This event was rescheduled due to rain. If you were previously signed up, you will not be automatically re-signed up. We are limited to the first 36 players. You may call the golf shop to sign up individually or as a team. This event is open to men, women, and children of all ages. Entry fee is $40 and will include your cart fee, prize money, and glow golf equipment. If you would like to purchase additional glow sticks or decorations for golf carts, please feel free.

18 Colonial Country Club s PGA Junior League Golf Team This is Colonial Country Club s PGA Junior League golf team. The ages range from 9-13 and the kids will play 6-8 matches for their regular season. If they win the season, they will get to go on to Nationals. We play our matches on Tuesday afternoons from 4-8pm if anyone is ever interested in coming out and watching our junior golfers play one of our home matches. Currently, Colonial is in first place in their division. These kids are the future of golf and of our club. One thing the PGA has done to try to get the juniors interested in golf is created a way to play golf as a team by offering the PGA junior league. Each kid receives a team uniform with their favorite number on the back and their club name. We play a captains choice format and the kids get points for each hole they win and the team with the most points will be the team that gets to move on to the next level.

There, we will keep your clubs clean and we will load and unload them when you come out for golf. We also offer push cart storage as well. Locker Rental As a colonial member, you have the opportunity to rent a full or half locker. These lockers are very convenient to be able to store your personal belongings. All lockers are clean and have plenty of room for your clothes, shoes, and accessories. Over the summer, it is nice to keep a swim suit and towel in. 21 As we head into July, that means we are getting very close to aerification. The greens are ready for a much-needed breath of fresh air. The golf course will be closed July 9-11 for the aerification process and we will be aerifying tees as well as greens. We will also be showing the fairways some attention with some verticutting and circle mowing to remove thatch and improve the surface quality. Aerification is never a popular process but the benefits far outweigh the disruption to play. The USGA has some great articles out explaining the process and why it is important. They can be found here: why-do-we-always-aerate-when-the-greens-are-perfect html Through aerification, we control organic matter, relieve soil compaction, stimulate root growth, improve drainage, and improve soil gas exchange. The greens will take approximately 2-3 weeks to fully heal after the process is complete. Aside from aerification, we are also completing sod work on 10, 11, and 12. These are our only 3 holes remaining to repair from winter damage, and we hope to have these holes sodded within the next week or two. The sod we have already laid has started to grow in nicely and we will be topdressing and rolling to ensure it meshes well with the surrounding sod. As always, please remember to fill your divots, repair ball marks, rake bunkers, and follow all cart rules. Carts need to stay a minimum of 30 yards from greens at all times.
