Lincoln Park Sports Complex (1584 Holly Hills Road) was built in 2008 and has hosted many baseball, softball, archery, and soccer tournaments; this will be the Third Cal-Ripken State Tournament since joining the league in Enclosed you will find; list of hotels, directions to our Lincoln Park Sports Complex, list of churches, and other activities that our department will be hosting this Independence Day Weekend. 3 Hotel Information We have contacted Local, Pell City, and Oxford Hotels for you to book. Make sure you mention Lincoln Parks and Recreation Cal Ripken Rookie League (8u) State Tournament and the date when you book. Listings of Hotels are included in this packet. Rooms need to be booked As Soon As Possible in order to guarantee availability. With a large number of visiting family and friends, you may be in need of hotels outside of the Lincoln area. Additional hotels are available in Pell City 10 miles outside of Lincoln and Oxford 20 miles outside of Oxford. Ice Breaker The City of Lincoln and the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department invite you to an Ice Breaker at the International MotorSports Hall of Fame Speed Dome, Friday, June 27, 2014; 6:00pm. There will be no charge to all players and coaches listed on the roster. Visiting family and friends will be able to purchase a plate for $ 8.00 per person. Attached is a Banquet Information Sheet. This sheet must be returned by Monday, June 23, Please contact Roben Duncan or Bryana Yarbrough with any questions regarding the banquet. Credentials and Coaches Meeting A table will be set up at the ice breaker for credentials. There will also be a mandatory meeting for coaches and managers at the International MotorSports Hall of Fame Speed Dome. Credentials meeting will take place after the Ice Breaker Event at above location. T-shirts Tournament T-shirts will be on sale at the Banquet and throughout the tournament make sure to get your shirt the night of the banquet. Alabama Teen Challenge designs and sells the t-shirts; they will have other styles on sale throughout the tournament as well. Publicity The Daily Home will be covering the event locally. 4 Directions to Lincoln Park Sports Complex Traveling South from Gadsden Area (Hwy 77 South), Turn right onto Boiling Springs Road/Calhoun County Road 73 travel south approximately 10 miles; Lincoln Park will be located on your Left just as you reach the Lincoln city limits. Traveling North from Talladega, Alex City Area (Hwy 77 North), and turn left onto Magnolia Street (Between KFC/Taco Bell and Waffle House) Drive North approximately 2.6 miles, Lincoln Park Complex will be on your Right. Traveling East or West (Hwy 78) Turn onto Magnolia Street (between 1 st National Bank and Regions Bank) travel 2.3 miles, Lincoln Park Complex will be on your Right Via I20 East or West Take Exit 168; turn onto North Hwy 77 turn left onto Magnolia Street (Between KFC/Taco Bell and Waffle House) Drive North approximately 2.6 miles, Lincoln Park Complex will be on your Right. LINCOLN PARK RULES 1. No coolers will be allowed in the park. A water cooler will be provided for each team in their dugout. Each team may bring one cooler, but it must labeled and remain in the dugout. 2. No outside food or drinks may be brought into the park. 3. Any spectator/fan or coach who becomes disruptive will be asked to leave the park immediately. 4. Teams will be allowed 15 minutes to warm up on fields between games ( depending on schedule). 5. No Pets Allowed 6. No Smoking Allowed (only in Designated Smoking Areas) 7. All other rules are posted at the entrance into the park / field area.

5 Tournament Notebook The following documents are required by the Babe Ruth League, Inc. of each team before they are eligible to participate in any sanctioned Babe Ruth League, Inc. post season tournament. 1. Tournament documents are to be placed in a three ring binder in the order listed below. 2. These documents are to be placed in clear plastic, top-loading paper savers before being placed in the binder. Consent for Treatment form on each player. This must be the form provided by Babe Ruth League, Inc. *Each player s birth document is to be place in the front of the plastic saver with Consent for Treatment Form in the back or under the birth document. They are then placed in the binder in the same order as they are listed on the Tournament Team Roster. Dropping out of the tournament (once committed), Failure to complete a full regulation game, Failure to attend the Ice Breaker, and leaving the tournament early will result in a $300 fine and your league will not be considered to host a state tournament for two years. 14 Play birdieball The birdieball spins exactly like a golf ball. That is why it flies exactly like a golf ball, but for a shorter distance. The reverse spin around the birdieball s center of gravity created with the loft of the club (the larger the loft the higher the spin rate) is similar to a golf ball. When a golf ball fades (goes slightly right during its flight) or slices (goes far right during its flight) its axis is tilted for a righthanded golfer, from left to right. When it draws (goes slightly left during its flight) or hooks (goes far left during its flight), its axis is tilted for a right-handed golfer, from right to left. The non-dimpled surface, as well as the straight sides resists flight. The radius on the leading edge and the aerodynamic hole through the center encourages flight and lift. The oscillation between the two as it rotates from air brake to airfoil makes the turbine sound. The lifting aspects help it hang in the air; the braking aspects reduce the distance it travels. The combination of the two makes it a short flight, long hang-time device.
