Flowers are blooming, leaves are emerging, and lush green grass paints a beautiful background for a new season of outdoor pursuits. Our tennis courts opened as early as I can remember and they have been energetically enjoyed by many. This past weekend, it was terrific to see so many familiar faces on the golf course and driving range - many of whom, like me, were working hard to knock some rust off their games. With women s and men s openers upon us, I highly encourage our newer members to join the festivities as these events provide a comfortable way for players of all abilities to meet other members while becoming more integrated and establishing life-long friendships. I look forward to teeing-it-up with many of you this Saturday at the Men s Golf Opener! Our new membership and summer guest programs have proven to be a hit with our established and freshly-minted colleagues. Please join me in actively welcoming our new friends. If you see a new face on the tennis courts or at the driving range, introduce yourself and extend a warm greeting. Our dedicated staff and enthusiastic committee members have actively prepared the club for terrific season of events. We are fortunate to have Craig, Paul, Jess, Dave, Mark and their teams leading the charge to ensure that BBC is the finest club around. 2 Membership The membership committee has been hard at work this spring and we re so pleased to see the number of terrific candidates coming through the pipeline that have responded to our 2017 initiatives. We held another successful open house in early April that was a great way for prospective candidates to meet members of the committee and the board as well as other sponsors. Many who attended have joined us as summer guests for the season or are in various stages of seeking full membership. The summer guest program is a great way for the club to keep a strong pipeline of new members as it provides an opportunity for potential members to both enjoy our wonderful club and facilities as well as develop friendships that can lead to strong applications down the road. One other thing to keep in mind is that the reduced 2017 pricing not only applies to new members but also to existing members who may want to advantage by upgrading to Golf from Associate at potentially little or no additional initiation cost. If the initiation that a member has originally paid when they joined as Associate is higher than the current initiation for Golf, this may be an attractive one-time opportunity to switch up to Golf. This could be particularly appealing for Associate families with children who may expect to be playing more golf in the coming years. I want to thank all the member sponsors that have already responded to our 2017 membership initiatives and continue encourage all members to consider all family and friends that might be interested as we move through the season. Please know that sponsoring a new member is very easy and the process starts with a simple inquiry to the office. 4 From the Golf Shop The month of May starts our tournament season here at The Bedens Brook Club. Some major championship events to save the date for are: Men s Opening Day May 6 th, Women s Opening Day May 10, Men s Chairman s Trophy Sign-up deadline May 12, and Men s Member-Member 27-Hole Stroke Play May 20 th. On top of these events we also begin our regular Wednesday women s days along with men s games on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Please reach out to any of the professional staff if you have questions about our tournament golf programming. I would also like to recognize our two spring interclub teams. On the women s side they compete in the Women s Metropolitan Golf Association Team Matches. The members of this team are: Martha Sword, Jessica Koehler, Miles Dumont, Cindy Linville, Susan Ward, Muffy Finken, Kate Moore, Marianne Deane, Joanne Cuoco, and Weezie Steffens. We wish them the best within their flight in this year s matches. On the men s side BBC competes in the Red Hoffman Cup Matches. This is a scratch no handicap match play event with 3 matches within a flight. The winner of the flight then moves on into the semi-finals and hopefully the finals. This year s team has the following members: Tom Lewis, Ken Stoddard, Greg Heisen, Max Bichsel, Mike Mann, Tim Gardner, Chris Sugden, Dave Alampi, Billy Ford and Rich Koehler. Special thanks to the entire team for taking the time out of their busy weekend family schedules to represent the club. The entire golf staff is now back for the season. Many of you have met our new 1 st assistant Tim Leigh. He has enjoyed his time here thus far and has already produced a positive impact on our operation. Bret Gracey our PGA teaching professional looks forward to assisting you with your game. Both Tim and Bret have put together the following offer for golf instruction this year. 6 golf lessons for you or anyone within your family for the price of 5. Golf lessons can be booked by contacting the staff through or calling the golf shop. Our lessons can be booked by anyone on the staff. The Junior Golf program is in full swing with our afterschool golf clinics. Tim Leigh is available for ages 8 and up Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4-5. He also teaches the Little Linkers ages 5-7 on Thursday s from 4-4:45. Finally, the golf shop is fully stocked with apparel, equipment and accessories for your golf needs. Our staff is professionally trained in club fitting and repair. Please be sure to use our knowledge and ask us any questions you may have. Little Linker After-School Clinics: Ages 5-7 Thursdays 4PM-4:45PM Perfect for the little ones Program will use a fun and safe learning environment to help young kids learn the game. SUMMER PROGRAMS Girls Only Golf Camp: Ages 7 and up Camp will touch on all fundamentals putting, chipping, pitching, full swing, and on course instruction. Friday will be dedicated to contests, games, and on-course scramble. Parent Volunteers/Duties at meets-home and Away-Please help us during meets. Parents are asked to sign up for at least 3 meets. Volunteer duties are attached below. TENTATIVE -Pre-Season Practice Schedule Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Beginners: 4:15-4:45 Intermediate: 4:45-5:15 Advanced: 5:15-6 Regular Season Practice Schedule and Swim Meets-Practice Schedule changes to Monday and Wednesday when meets begin-same times/swim Meets are held on Tuesday and Thursdays. There are typically 6 meets in total, season runs until middle of July. Team will have end of season banquet the later part of July.

7 Clubhouse ATTIRE It is the intent of the Club to provide both formal and informal dining areas for its members. To avoid any possible embarrassing situations, please inform your guests of these guidelines before arriving at the Club. Members and guests alike will be asked to adhere to these guidelines at all times while on Club property. Porch Dining Room a) Lunch - Appropriate Club casual attire. b) Dinner - Jacket /Tie or Turtle Neck for men, women similarly appropriate attire (October to May) Dinner- Club Casual attire permitted May to October No jeans c) Hats, golf shoes, swim attire, denim jeans, tennis attire or the like are not permitted. Family Dining Room a) Lunch - Appropriate casual attire/sports attire/neat and presentable denim jeans b) Dinner - Appropriate casual attire/neat and presentable denim jeans c) Swim attire is not permitted. d) Please remove hats and visors when dining. Grill Room a) Appropriate, casual attire/sports attire/neat and presentable denim jeans b) Swim attire is not permitted. c) Hats and visors should be removed when dining. Lunch -11am to 3pm - Tuesday through Saturday Sunday Brunch 11am to 3pm Dinner-6pm to 8:30pm Friday and Saturday year round- plus Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from June to September Are reservations required for Dinner? We strongly suggest making reservations as early as possible. Reservations may be made by phoning What is the Service Charge that is applied to all food and beverage items? The service charge is 20% and is applied to all food and beverage items sold. This includes daily food and beverage as well as party food and beverage. The charge does not go directly to staff but is used to help offset staff payroll. Staff is paid an hourly rate which is consistent with area clubs. Staff does not receive a portion of the service charge. What is meant by the term Signature Bar or Signature Lunch? A Signature Bar or Signature Lunch is one where your bar charge or lunch charge is not included in the price of the particular function. A chit is filled out when ordering a drink at a Signature Bar or lunch, and it is then charged to your account. CELL PHONES AND PERSONAL COMMUNICATION DEVICES Talking on cell phones and personal communication devices (PCD S) is prohibited on all Club property with the following exceptions only: the parking lot, the clubhouse phone room, the pool cabana and the men s and women s locker rooms. Nonetheless, cell phones and PCD s may be used in the event of an emergency. Please place these devices on silent mode or vibrate mode before arriving at the Club. The use of cell phones and PCD s for functions other than talking should be discreet and in a manner so as not to disturb others. Please notify your guests about this policy before arriving at the Club.

8 Tennis Tennis courts are open and the spring program is in full swing with Philippe and Jessica!! Here are some highlights for the month of May but don t forget you can find the entire 2017 tennis program schedule online at Look for your favorite weekly drills, tournaments and socials plus check out our tennis camp, cardio drill and junior programs! For all lesson inquires or court reservations, please tennis@bedensbrookclub.com. Ladies Tennis Member/Guest will be held on Wednesday, May 24 th from 9:00 am 1:00 pm including lunch. Bring a friend to enjoy BBC tennis. Each participant will receive a favor and lunch with prizes being awarded to the champions. This event will have an A & B flight. Please jfisher@bedensbrookclub.com to reserve your spot. The Ladies Doubles Club Championship Day on May 21 st will be an all-day event with a compass draw (2 matches minimum). Matches will be played in the morning, lunch, and matches/finals in the afternoon. Grab a member to join the new format of the club championships. The Ladies Team will continue to practice on Mondays 9-10:30am and matches on Tuesdays at 9:30am. The last match of the season will be on Tuesday, June 14 th. The team competes around the state in series six in the New Jersey Women s Tennis League. We are actively looking for new players to join the team! The co -captains for the 2017 season are Regi Meredith Carpeni and Katharine O Grady.
