On the 17 th hole with a smooth and Tiger Woods like swing of his 7 iron, Larry Deschler deftly sailed that little white Bridgestone e5 ball, 134 yards from the tee box right into the cup. After golf Larry was rewarded by big smiles and of course the ladies all like a winner! Right Sharon, Pat and Donna? This was the second year for this fun filled weekend that included plenty of golf and good friends. That was the good news, the bad news is that unfortunately Indy had to relinquish the Trophy. This an annual event with each chapter alternating planning and location. If you didn't attend this year please add this event to your calendar so you will not miss out on all the fun next year when we reclaim the trophy. The Indy players were: John Hannis, Louis Ventimglia, Rebecca Chase, Ripley Ross, Ken, Peggy, Trish, Alan Butler, Ron Green, Dave Carmak, Phil Rossman, Lisa Disbrow. Even though the Cincy group outnumbered us 2:1 we definitely gave them a run for their money. If you haven't gone to an outing with this group you should plan on Perry Park in October or Sultan's Run in the spring of The IndyASGA board put to the membership for vote several locations for the Christmas Party. Out of the 57+ members we received 18 votes total. Results were as follows: Option #1 Vito's (8), Option #2 (7), Option #3 (1) and there were (2) votes submitted with no preference. So Vito's Downtown Indy will be the location for the Indy ASGA Christmas Party Saturday December 6th. Please put this on your calendar. Skip Jenkins can be contacted for more details. State Road 135 Larry Dawson-golf host September 28-Saddlebrook Golf Course Arabian Run, 12:30pm tee time- Scramble format-this outing is being held with the Indianapolis Single Over 40 Meetup group. After golf social at Kelly s Pub Georgetown Rd. In addition to our regular schedule Indy ASGA has supported the event below in the past and hopefully will turn out in full force this year. The Faribanks Alumni will host the 16 th Annual Golf Tournament on September 27 th at Iron Wood Golf Club. Proceeds from this outing will go to the Fairbanks Recovery Center. 4 IndyASGA supports Rally for Cure 2008 Below is part of a note received from the organizer. It would be super if next year we could field more teams. Jill, Ken, Trish and Peggy- Attached is the photo of your foursome taken at the Rally for the Cure event last Monday. You all look great! Thank you for participating. Peggy, the Rally # to include on the Titleist Drawing Card is M:4509. On Monday, August 18, in nearly perfect weather conditions, Central Indiana EWGA held our 1st Annual Rally for the Cure Golf Invitational at Heartland Crossing Golf Links. There were 50 golfers participating On the par 3 Rally for the Cure hole, sponsored by Titleist, all golfers had a chance to win a souvenir golf ball if their first swing at the golf ball resulted in it staying on the green. Additionally, each of the winners will also have a chance in a drawing for a Titleist golf bag and five dozen golf Titleist golf balls at the end of the year. Although this was a tough green to hit with a water hazard in front of the green and the back of the green sloping away from the players, there were 4 golfers who were successful: Richard Giles, Carol Walters, Peggy Burlison and Jim Schwarz. Through the selling of mulligans, getout-of-sand cards and raffle tickets over $650 was raised. In all, $1800 will be donated to the Indianapolis Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure! I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all who participated in making our first Rally for the Cure such a successful event. Thank you to our sponsors and donors listed above. Oh, how bland it does appear...this harmless looking little sphere... By its size I could not guess...the awesome strength it does possess... But since I fell beneath it's spell...i've wandered through the fires of hell. My life has not been quite the same...since I chose to play this stupid game... It rules my mind for hours on end...a fortune it has made me spend... It has made me swear and yell and cry...i hate myself and want to die... It promises a thing called par...if I can hit straight and far... To master such a tiny ball...should not be very hard at all. But my desires the ball refuses...and does exactly like it chooses... It hooks and slices, dribbles and dies...and even disappears before my eyes... Often it will take a whim...to hit a tree or take a swim... With miles of grass on which to land...it finds a tiny patch of sand... Then has me offering up my soul...if only it would find the hole... It's made me whimper like a pup...and swear that I will give it up... And take a drink to ease my sorrow...but the ball knows. I ll be back tomorrow! Rules and More Rules Larry was having his typical bad breaks. On hole # 5, a par-5, his second shot came to rest in the rough on the side of a slope. When Larry addressed the ball for his third shot, the ball moved from its original position. Larry readdressed the ball without touching it and hit it short of the green. He then chipped and two putted and said, Wow, a bogie 6" said Larry. Was Larry correct? What should be Larry's correct score? A. Larry hit six shots, his score of 6 was correct. B. Larry should record a 7, he must take a 1 stroke penalty because his ball moved after he addressed the ball. C. Larry should record a "snowman" 8, he must take a 2 stroke penalty, 1 because his ball moved after he addressed it and 1 more because he did not place the ball back in its original position. The answer is C. Larry should record an 8, he must take a 2 stroke penalty, 1 because his ball moved after he addressed it and 1 more because he did not place the ball back in its original position. Larry was deemed to have addressed the ball when he took his stance and grounded the club. ( In a hazard, you are not allowed to ground your club, so you are considered to have addressed the ball when you take your stance). Once Larry addressed the ball and it moved from its position of rest, he should have declared a one stroke penalty and replaced the ball in its original position. Larry should then have placed the ball back in its original position or he would be penalized a total of two strokes. If he had been unsure of the exact original position, the ball should have been dropped. USGA rule 18 addresses the movement of a ball at rest. Rule 18-2 talks to the issue of the ball being moved by the player, partner, caddie or equipment.
