Gates open 6 am on SATURDAY 23 rd JUNE 2018 ELIGIBILITY CLASSES 1, 2, 6-8, 9-12, 16-19, 20 and 21 are open to animals, owned, registered and ridden by members of the BSPS, NPS, Ponies UK or TSR. All other classes are open to animals, owned registered and ridden by BSPS members. 3

3 QUALIFIERS Horse of the Year Show This is a Horse of the Year Show Qualifier, all data given upon entry of this class is provided to Grandstand Media Limited and stored on the Grandstand Entries System. For full policy details please visit This Show is a qualifier for the Horse of Year Show, NEC, Birmingham 3 rd 7 th October 2018 only one pony in each of the following classes will qualify:- Classes 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21 the highest placed pony not already qualified, from the first five ponies placed in each class will qualify. Qualification will be verified by the Horse of the year Show office. These classes will be run in accordance with the general rules as set out in the Horse of the Year Show rule book, a copy of which can be downloaded from These classes are open to ponies, four years old or over, mares and geldings. Ponies must be registered with either NPS, Ponies (UK), TSR, or BSPS and a valid JMB number lodged with that society. Riders and Owners must be members of either NPS, Ponies (UK), TSR or BSPS. THE BSPS BLUE RIBAND PONY OF THE YEAR The Desert Orchid Blue Riband WHP/WH of the Year - 1 st and 2 nd in classes 9-12 will qualify. The Blue Riband Lead Rein & First Ridden Pony of the Year. 1 st and 2 nd in Classes 1 and 2 will qualify. The Legend Blue Riband Show Pony of the Year - 1 st and 2 nd in Classes 6, 7 and 8 will qualify. The John Peel Blue Riband S.H.P. of the Year - 1 st and 2 nd in Classes 16, 17, 18 and 19 will qualify. The Blue Riband Intermediate SRT and SH of the Year - 1 st and 2 nd in Classes 20, 21 and 22 will qualify. THE BSPS CLASSIC SECURITY (UK) LIMITED CHALLENGE The highest placed pony in classes 1-3, 6 8, , Animals must not have qualified for Horse of the Year Show in the appropriate class. BSPS BLACK COUNTRY SADDLES RIDER OF THE YEAR. The Best Rider in classes 1-3, 6 8, , will qualify for the final at the BSPS Summer Championships Show. BSPS BINKS FAMILY CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS The Show Pony Champions will qualify for the Binks Family Show Pony Champion of Champions. The WHP Champions will qualify for the BSPS Binks Family WHP Champion of Champions. The SHP Champions will qualify of the BSPS Binks Family SHP Champion of Champions. The Intermediate Champions will qualify for the BSPS Binks Family Intermediate Champion of Champions. The finals to be held at the 2018 BSPS Summer Championships Show 4

4 BSPS CHAMPIONSHIPS SHOW This Show is a qualifier for the 2018 BSPS Championships Show, to be held at Arena UK, Allington, Grantham, Lincolnshire. The first and second prizewinners in Classes 1, 2, 6-8, 9-11, and first to third prizewinners in Classes 12, will qualify provided the animal is owned registered and ridden by a BSPS Member. Classes 3 and 22 are qualifiers for the BSPS Premier League. This show is a qualifier for the THE MICHAELA WOOD SUPREME RIDDEN PONY CHAMPIONSHIP The Champion Show Pony and the Champion Show Hunter Pony will qualify, if the Champion has already qualified then the Reserve Champion will go forward. Only the Champion or Reserve will qualify. 8 LEAD REIN AND FIRST RIDDEN CLASSES Class 1 Horse of the Year Show Lead Rein Pony Mare or Gelding, 4yrs old or over, not exceeding 122cms. Suitable to be ridden by a rider who must have attained their third birthday by the day of competition and not to have attained their 8th birthday before 1st January in the current year Class 2 Horse of the Year Show First Ridden Pony Mare or Gelding, 4yrs old or over, not exceeding 122cms. Suitable to be ridden by a rider who must have attained their third birthday by the day of competition and not to have attained their 10th birthday before 1st January in the current year Classes 1 & 2 - Horse of the Year Show Lead Rein and First Ridden Pony - Marks will be awarded in the following way: Manners & Way of Going 50 Marks Maximum Conformation, Type & Freedom of Action 50 Marks Maximum In the case of equality, the pony with the highest Manners & Way of Going mark will be deemed the winner. If there is still equality at this point, then the judges decision will be final. Class 3 The BSPS Leading Rein of Hunter Type Mare or Gelding, 4yrs old or over, not exceeding 122cms. Suitable to be ridden by a rider not to have attained their 9th birthday before 1st January in the current year 9

9 CLASS 4 WORKING SPORTS PONY ON A LEAD REIN Mare or Gelding, 4 years old or over, not exceeding 122cms. Riders born in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, or In Lead Rein WSP Classes the judges will be looking for a pony suitable for a child to begin their future in Working Sports Pony Classes. METHOD OF JUDGING Ponies will enter the ring at the walk, they may be trotted altogether at the Judges discretion. They will be pulled into line and asked to perform an individual test around obstacles including jumping a maximum of three small upright fences not exceeding 30cms. No spread fences. Water will not be included. Ponies will not be asked to walk on artificial material e.g. plastic sheeting during the test. Riders will not be asked to dismount. The Leader must be 16 years old or over and may only lead one pony in a class. The rein MUST go directly from the bit to the rider s hand, with no extra aids or attachments to or on the saddle. Handles on saddles are permitted but the reins must not be attached to the handle or to the saddle. The Lead Rein must be affixed to the noseband on which it must remain while the pony is in the ring. Whilst in the ring ponies must be led by the leader at all times. The Leader should lead on the near side with the lead rein in the left hand. DRESS CODE RIDERS Hats in accordance with BSPS Rules, Tweed Jackets, Beige or cream jodhpurs, Shirt, tie, boots and gloves. No Buttonholes LEADERS Country attire, Gentlemen Trilby Hats or Caps, Ladies modest hats. MARKS Manners and Style whilst performing the test (including jumping) Type and Way of Going Suitability of pony for the rider TOTAL 60 Marks 20 Marks 20 Marks 100 MARKS Judges will penalise refusals, knockdowns or taking the wrong course. A stride or two of canter over the fences will not be penalised. There will be NO conformation marks. 13 METHOD OF JUDGING THE GOLD CUP SPORTS PONY ALL SECTIONS TO BE RUN IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE BSPS RULES FOR COMBINED TRAINING & GOLD CUP RULE BOOK Any SUITABLE BRIDLE, Boots and MARTINGALES ARE PERMITTED FOR WSP AND SHOW JUMPING Competitors must compete in Sections A, B and C. Marks attained in Section A Dressage and Section B- WSP, shall be added together. Any penalties incurred in Section C Jumping will be deducted from the total of Section A and B. The winner of the combined class will then be the one with the highest remaining score. In the event of a tie or ties, the highest dressage score will determine the winner, if there is still equality the highest WSP style mark will determine the winner. Competitors must enter both Sections A and B to be eligible to go forward for Section C. SECTION A - DRESSAGE BSPS Dressage Test No:- 6 (2007) will be used for classes 13A, 14A and 15A copies are available from B.S.P.S. Head Office on receipt of S.A.E. Bridles as per the BSPS Combined Training and Gold Cup Rule Book. SECTION B WORKING SPORTS PONY Maximum Height of Fences OPEN HEIGHT The Course will consist of a mixture of Rustic WHP and Cross Country style fences, water may be included. MARKING Jumping Style and Manners while jumping Position of Seat and Effectiveness of Rider TOTAL 60 MARKS 30 MARKS 10 MARKS 100 MARKS PENALTIES Knock down 10 penalties First Refusal 15 penalties Second Refusal 20 penalties Third Refusal Elimination Fall of Pony or Rider Elimination An elimination in this section will result in 150 points being deducted from the total score. SECTION C SHOW JUMPING ANY SUITABLE BRIDLE. MARTINGALES ARE PERMITTED This phase will be open to the TEN competitors in each class, gaining the highest amalgamated scores from Section A and B. In the event of elimination in Section C 100 penalty points will be deducted from the competitors score carried forward from Sections A, B and C. The Jumping section will be judged on one round, over coloured and or rustic fences. There will be an optimum time for the course and penalties will be incurred for exceeding this time. There will be an alternative Fence and a BONUS MARK OF 10 will be awarded to competitors who successfully jump the alternative fence. The competitor with the lowest amalgamated score from Sections A & B will jump first. 16 CONDITIONS OF ENTRY AND RULES 1. Classes 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 12, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21, will be judged in accordance with the Horse of the Year Show Rules, a copy of which can be downloaded from 2. All other classes will be judged in accordance with BSPS Rules. 3. Only tack or spurs that are permissible in the ring in BSPS classes is allowed on the showground while mounted 4. Animals must be registered with the BSPS for Owners and Riders must be current members of the BSPS to compete in classes 3, 4, 5, 13, 14, 15 and The Committee does not accept responsibility for any loss, damage or injury to any person, animal or property at the Show. Exhibitors are warned that property has been lost at Shows, and are therefore advised to take every precaution and not leave property unattended. 6. The Committee reserve the right to alter the times of the classes or the Judges if necessary 7. Mounted exhibitors must adhere to horse walkways and riding areas. 8. OBJECTIONS must be made in writing with the objector's full name and address within 60 minutes of the completion of judging and must be lodged at the Secretary's Office together with the sum of 50 deposit. This sum will be returned if the objection is sustained, but if the objection is not sustained the deposit will be forfeited to the funds of the Mid Summer Show. The Objection Committee will consist of Mrs. P. Baker-Beall, Mrs. S. Thomas and any other official if applicable. Any objection against a JMB Certificate must be lodged in accordance with the current JMB Rules. Any objection against the judging of a class or championship must be referred to the BSPS in accordance with the Rules in the current BSPS Rule and Show Hand Book. 9. Any pony taking part will be liable to Dope Testing. 10. No marks will be displayed until after the presentation of awards. 11. It is strongly recommended that all exhibitors carry Public Liability Insurance for an adequate indemnity to protect against their negligence. 12. WARNING!! Children, Motorcycles or Bicycles. Children MUST NOT be allowed to play on the bales of straw. NO Motorcycles or bicycles will be allowed to be ridden around the Showground or stable area at any time. Bicycles or motorcycles may be impounded for the duration of the Show. 13. STABLING Please fill in your stabling form correctly, this will assist the Office and Stable Manager. Stabling will be available from 5 pm on Friday 22 nd June Boxes cannot be booked for exhibitors to sleep in. NO cooking or smoking permitted in the stable areas. Stables in different names cannot be allocated next to each other unless booked together at the same time. 14. HATS All competitors must wear hats in accordance with BSPS Rule and Handbook. 15. All entries and stabling fees MUST be paid in full when entries are made. NO entries will be accepted by telephone. Incorrect entries will be refused. ANY CHEQUE that is not honoured by the Bank will be returned to the exhibitor with their entries, and these WILL NOT be accepted. A 10 surcharge will be charged for stables cancelled prior to the closing date of entries. 16. Only animals competing at the show will be allowed onto the showground. 17. PONIES MUST NOT BE LEFT OVERNIGHT IN HORSEBOXES OR TRAILERS, CORRALS ARE NOT PERMITTED. EQUINE PASSPORTS/INFLUENZA VACCINATION CERTIFICATES. Exhibitors are required to have Passports for all horses/ponies when competing at the show and up to date Equine Inoculation Certificate for each of their exhibits. Any exhibitor found without a passport or valid certificates for all their animals will be asked to leave the Showground. NO entry fee will be refunded NO REFUNDS on stables cancelled after the closing date of entries. 17

17 WARNING in the interest of other exhibitors, please refrain from playing loud or amplified music or making excessive noise on the showground after 11 pm THESE RULES WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED, OR DISCIPLINARY ACTION MAY BE TAKEN. CANCELLATION The BSPS shall be entitled to cancel the Mid Summer Show. 1) upon the serving of notice to the entrant of such cancellation, not less than 48 hours prior to the Mid Summer Show: or 2) an Event of Force Majeure occurs For the purpose of this clause, Event of Force Majeure means an act of God including but not limited to fire, flood, earthquake, windstorm or other natural disaster, act of any sovereign including but not limited to war, invasion, act of foreign enemies, hostilities (whether war be declared or not) civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, military or usurped power or confiscation, nationalisation, requisition, destruction or damage to property by or under the order of any government or public or local authority or imposition of government sanction embargo or similar action; law, judgement, order, decree, embargo, blockade, labour dispute including but not limited to strike, lockout or boycott; interruption or failure of utility service including but not limited to electric power, gas, water or telephone service; failure of the transportation of any personnel equipment, machinery supply or material required by BSPS for the provision of show services breach of contract by any essential personnel; any other matter or cause beyond the control of BSPS. Upon the cancellation of the Midsummer Show, BSPS shall return all Midsummer Show entry fees to the entrants, however in certain circumstances the Society reserve the right to retain a fair percentage of the fees when the Society has incurred expenses. BSPS shall not be liable to the show entrants in contract, tort, negligence, breach of statutory duty or otherwise for any loss, damage, costs or expenses of any nature whatsoever incurred or suffered by the show entrants of an indirect or consequential nature including without limitation any economic loss or other loss of turnover, profits, business or goodwill. Any notice served in accordance with this clause shall be in writing and shall be deemed to have been duly given if left at or sent by post or telex or facsimile to the entrant at the address or relevant telecommunications number for such entrant or such other address as the entrant may from time to time designate. 18
