5 3.1-2 The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. and adjourned at 7:52 p.m. 1. Approval of Agenda SHF That the agenda for the Meeting of December 7, 2017 be approved, as printed and circulated. Carried Heidi Calder, Coordinator, Sports Affiliates, advised that she has assumed another position with Community Services. She introduced Terri Bommer, Coordinator, Sports Liaison, Community Services; and Megan Guerra, Senior Specialist Events, Festival and Events Office. Ms. Calder explained that they will both support the Committee along with Garry Hardy. Ms. Bommer and Ms. Guerra were welcomed by Committee. 2. Declarations of Interest under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act 3. Previous Sports Hall of Fame - November 2, 2017 The minutes were approved by Council on December 13, 2017 and provided for Committee s information. Ken Giles, Member, advised that athlete Sheldon Keef s name noted in Item 9.1 should be amended to reflect the correct spelling of the last name. 4. Delegation/Presentations - nil 5. Reports - nil 6. Sub-Committees - nil 7. Other/New Business Page 2 of 5
6 Verbal update by staff, re: Second Phase of the Sports Hall of Fame Website Staff advised that Phase 1 of the Sports Hall of Fame website has been completed. A meeting will be scheduled early in 2018 to discuss Phase 2, the intent being to create a more interactive site that includes an updated list of athletes featuring their accomplishments Discussion, re: Amendment to the Constitution re Role of Treasurer Heidi Calder, Coordinator, Sports Affiliates, referenced the information in the agenda as it currently defines the Treasurer s role in the Constitution. She explained that the proposed change from Treasurer to Financial Liaison Officer would require more than just replacing the title. Council approval would also be required. Don Doan, Constitution Chair, agreed that an amendment to the Constitution is required that clearly defines the role and responsibility of the Financial Liaison Officer. Committee was reminded that Councillor Doug Whillans met with staff from Finance to discuss the new role. There was consensus for staff to speak with Councillor Whillans regarding the details of the meeting with staff to ensure that the responsibility of the Financial Liaison Officer is accurately reflected in the Constitution Discussion, re: Preparation for 2018 Induction Event Committee was advised that the Sports Hall of Fame Induction event is scheduled for May 15, 2018 at the Rose Theatre. There was consensus that the Events Sub-Committee and staff arrange to meet early in 2018 to discuss the event including suggestions for Master of Ceremonies, Keynote Speaker, VIP Special Invitees, seating arrangements and inductees. All members of the Committee were welcomed to attend the meeting if they wished. Dean McLeod, Chair, reminded Committee of the Brampton Beast game, details of which will be provided at a later date. Garry Hardy advised that the Sports Hall of Fame binders Active Nominees 2018 were ready to be distributed. Each member was provided with a copy. The following motion was considered: Page 3 of 5
7 3.1-4 SHF That staff arrange to meet with the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame - Events Sub-Committee to discuss the Induction Ceremony scheduled for May 15, 2018 at Rose Theatre. 8. Correspondence - nil Carried 9. Information Items - nil 9.1. News Items Future / Potential Inductees Ken Giles Ken Giles, Committee Member, provided details on the accomplishments of various Brampton athletes in sports including football, hockey, women s soccer, track and field, boxing, basketball, and lacrosse. There was discussion on possible opportunities to generate more interest from athletes to the Sports Hall of Fame. Committee was advised that the Youth Baseball Teams may have multiple athletes with potential for induction to the Sports Hall of Fame. Members were also reminded that three football athletes from Brampton played in the recent TFC (Toronto Football Club) game. Committee acknowledged that several professional athletes in Brampton are not recognized for their contributions because of the difficulty in acquiring information on their accomplishments that are required to complete a biography. Staff reminded Committee that Brampton will be hosting Rogers Hometown Hockey in March Question Period 1. In response to a question from City Councillor Jeff Bowman about an end of year appreciation event for Committee, staff advised that they will inquire what the protocol is for Citizen Committees for events such as this. 2. Ron Noonan, Curator inquired about the status of the request for additional space for the Sports Hall of Fame Building. City Councillor Jeff Bowman advised that he will follow-up on discussions that were held with the Commissioner of Community Services regarding possible locations Page 4 of 5

Adjournment Discussion took place regarding the next scheduled Committee meeting date of January 4, There was consensus to reschedule the meeting to January 11, 2018, to accommodate members and staff that may be unavailable for January 4, The following motion was considered: SHF That the next meeting of the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame Committee be rescheduled to Thursday, January 11, 2018; and, 2.
