3 MEMBERSHIPS Memberships are $25.00 per family, $12.00 per single. Membership tickets can be collected once your payment has been made at the Kaniva Show Office. The Show Office will be open from 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday 8 to Thursday 11 October at the Kaniva Community Hub, Kaniva Recreation Reserve. MEMBERSHIPS WILL CLOSE AT 5.00PM ON THURSDAY 11 OCTOBER AND WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE AT THE GATE ON SHOW DAY. Membership passes will be given to you upon receiving payment at the Show Office or online via direct deposit. Entry fees for non-members to the Show are $15.00 per adult and $3 per school-aged child. Show your support for the Kaniva Show and become a member. NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS The contents of this Schedule have been carefully compiled and are believed to be correct. The Kaniva A&P Society will not be responsible in any way for any inaccuracies which may occur within. 6

7 SHOW REGULATIONS 1. All entries must be made in writing and lodged with the Secretary at the office in the Kaniva Community Hub. 2. All exhibits must be bona fide property of the exhibitor. 3. Family membership - $ Includes Parents and School students. Single Membership - $ Members of the Society are entitled to admission to the ground. 4. Non-members admission to ground: Adults $15.00; All school aged children $3.00, pre-school aged children free. 5. Prize money will be paid at Secretary's office in the Kaniva Community Hub on Show Day on presentation of prize cards. No later than 6pm. 6. Trophies will be handed out at Secretary s office on Show Day on presentation of prize cards. No later than 6pm. 7. All stewards to be in attendance in their relevant pavilions by 8:30am. 8. No exhibit for competition allowed to be judged until all subscriptions and entrance fees are paid to the Secretary. 9. Stewards allowed to show in all classes. 10. All exhibits must be on the ground and placed not later than prescribed judging time on the day of the Show. 11. No exhibits may be removed before 5.00pm (sheep 4.00pm), without an order from the Secretary to do so, under a penalty of $10.00, or forfeiture of prize. 12. Exhibits in Grain Classes and Fruit and Vegetables to be grown by exhibitor. 13. Judges are empowered to withhold prizes in any classes where they deem the exhibits unworthy. They may award a second prize in lieu of the first if they consider the exhibit unworthy of a first prize. 14. Machinery and trade exhibitors, $15.00 per site. 15. Any person conveying or driving motor vehicles, for the purpose of trade exhibits, not possessing a member's ticket or pass, will be charged normal admission rates. 16. Protests against awards to be made in writing to the Secretary within one hour of final judging of open class on the day of the Show, and be accompanied with a deposit of $50.00, to be forfeited if the protest is proved frivolous. 17. Every possible care will be taken of all exhibits, but no responsibility will be incurred by the Society. 18. The breeding year dates from August 1st for horses. 19. The judge or Committee has power to demand a statutory declaration from any person or persons, should they desire, respecting any exhibit at the Show, or as to the bona fide of an exhibit, or grower with respect of articles exhibited. 20. Any person insulting or interfering with the judge during the Show will be subject to removal from the ground, and the Prizes, if any, awarded to them forfeited. 21. Any exhibitor or attendant refusing to attach the prize card to any exhibit to which a prize has been awarded and to keep the same on during the hours of the Show, will on proof thereof to the Society, be disqualified from recovering all prizes awarded to the said exhibit during the Show. 22. The Society may withhold any prize when statements have been erroneously or fraudulently made regarding any exhibit, and exhibitor guilty of false entries or statements may be debarred from again exhibiting, and if members, will be liable to expulsion from the Society. 23. Any exhibitor pointing out his exhibit to the judge or seeking to influence the judge's decision shall forfeit all prizes awarded. 24. In the cases of dispute as to regulations, or the meaning of any in the prize list, or any dispute on any other matter, same shall be determined by the Committee of the Society whose decision shall be final and without appeal. 25. The Dispute Committee shall comprise the President, Vice President and the Chief Steward from the section to which the dispute pertains. 26. No printed matter will be allowed to be distributed on the show ground on Show Day without permission of the Secretary. 27. No horses allowed within the enclosure reserved for the public. 28. The Committee reserves the right to postpone or alter the date of the Show should same become necessary, and the Committee incurs no responsibility or liability by reason of such postponement. 29. In the event of a tie for aggregate trophies, competitors tying and having greatest number of firsts to be declared winner, in event of further tie, Society to provide extra trophy. 30. In the event of equal first prize, total of first and second prize money to be shared evenly. 31. Privacy Disclosure statement: by entering in the Kaniva Show, the exhibitor accepts that their name could be used in publication of prize winners at local, regional and state level and held on file for 12 months. Please Note - Intending exhibitors are particularly requested to observe the time fixed for closing of entries at Kaniva, and also the hour fixed for receiving exhibits on the morning of the Show, as the rules will be strictly enforced. All sheep born before 1 January 2017 must be identified with either a visually readable or an electronic NLIS (Sheep) tag before being consigned to an agricultural show. As of 31 March 2018, Kaniva Show must ensure that the electronic tags on the animals being exhibited are scanned and reported to the NLIS database. Animals without the required tags will not be permitted. *** LOCATED IN ANIMAL NURSERY. Entrants to be at Kaniva Community Hub by 1.15pm for presentation. Regulations: Entrants to be permanent residents of Kaniva and district and to be years of age, male or female. Entrants will be judged in accordance with the following guidelines: Community and/or Show Involvement & Rural and General Knowledge 40 points Ambitions/Goals 20 points Communication Skills 20 points Personality and Confidence 10 points Overall Presentation 10 points TOTAL 100 points Judges decision will be final. 10 HORSE EVENTS LOCATED ON THE FOOTBALL OVAL AT THE KANIVA RECREATION RESERVE Ring Master: Donna Burns Stewards: D Sanders, R Cannell (Breed Ring), Millie Gordon, Ebony Williams. We would like to acknowledge the contribution to the Horse Events from Mrs Trish Sanders and for her many years of Stewarding and support. Trish passed away this year after a battle with cancer. Rest in Peace Trish. EA and RAS and SHC Height certificates recognised by this show. Horses and ponies must be shown in accordance with these certificates. NO EVENTS WILL BE HELD FOR COMPETITORS IN OTHER RINGS NO LUNGING ALLOWED ON MAIN OVAL Ring 3 will be available as a marshalling area and warm up area until it commences at 11.00am. PLEASE AVOID STANDING IN THE RACEWAY. Entries will be taken in the Kaniva Community Hub on the Morning of the Show. If Entering Breed Class please have Registration Papers and Current Membership proof with you, these need to be sighted before entries will be accepted. Random Swabbing and horse registration checks may take place at any time. A $3.00 swabbing fee per horse is to be paid by all entrants. Fees to be held by WASA in a special fund for the continuation of Random Annual Swabbing at all Wimmera Shows. Medication Control of horses may take place in accordance with Equestrian Australia Equine Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations (1st edition effective 5 April 2010 and updates) and the Equestrian Australia Medication Control System and Swabbing Policy (1 January 2015) Entry to rings is $13.00 per horse and rider combination. This includes the $3 swabbing fee per horse and this allows entry into as many classes as required in ALL RINGS for each horse and rider combination. If a competitor has more than one horse they must pay $13 entry fee for each horse. Any competitor trying to misuse this system will risk disqualification and non-recording of qualifications with EFA and VAS - THESE RULES WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. In fact, baking fruit cakes is more than a time honoured tradition; fruit cake is the number one VAS competition as far as sheer numbers of exhibits go. That s a whole lot of cake. Class 180 VAS Rich Fruit Cake Open to fruit cake enthusiasts everywhere Recipe Ingredients 250g sultanas 250g chopped raisins 250g currants 125g chopped mixed peel 90g chopped red glace cherries 90g chopped blanched almonds 1/3 cup sherry or brandy 250g plain flour 60g self-raising flour 1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 250g butter 250g soft brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon lemon essence OR finely grated lemon rind 1/2 teaspoon almond essence 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence 4 large eggs Method: Mix together all the fruits and nuts and sprinkle with the sherry or brandy. Cover and leave for at least 1 hour, but preferably overnight Sift together the flours and spices. Cream together the butter and sugar with the essences. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, and then alternately add the fruit and flour mixtures. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon. Place the mixture into a prepared tin 20 cm square, straight sided, square cornered tin and bake in a slow oven for approximately 3½ - 4 hours. Allow the cake to cool in the tin. PLEASE NOTE: VAS State Carrot Cake Competition Change of Recipe The new recipe as recommended by Geoff from Rocky Lamattina s that the Good Foods Australia award winning recipe is the recipe used for the State Carrot Cake competition. PLEASE NOTE: The glaze has been removed from this recipe. Every entry to this class at show level must use this recipe. 375 g Plain Flour 2 tsp Baking Powder 1 ½ tsp bicarb soda 2 tsp ground cinnamon ½ tsp ground nutmeg ½ tsp allspice 2 tsp salt 345 g castor sugar 375 ml vegetable oil 4 eggs 3 medium carrots, grated (350 grams) 220 g tin crushed pineapple, drained 180 g pecan nuts crushed Steps 1. Preheat the oven to 180C (160C fan), Grease a 20cm (8 ) round cake tin and line with baking paper. 2. Sift the dry ingredients together into a bowl. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and oil, then add to the dry ingredients. Mix well then add the carrots, crushed pineapple and pecans. Mix to form a smooth batter and pour into the cake in. 3. Bake for approximately minutes. 4. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes in the tin on a wire rack. Upend and allow to cool on the wire rack. State Final Prizes First - $250 plus Trophy Second - $100 Third - $50 Class 183 VAS Carrot and Date Muffins A competition for junior cake bakers under 18 on the day of their local show/ field day INGREDIENTS: 2 ½ cups Self-raising flour 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed) 1/3 cup chopped pitted dates 1 cup coarsely grated carrot 1 tablespoon orange marmalade 1 cup canola oil 2 eggs, lightly beaten ¾ cup orange juice 1 cup reduced fat milk METHOD: 1. Pre heat oven to 190 C (moderately hot) 2. Line a 12 hole muffin pan with, Round Paper Muffin Cases Classic White Muffin Cases Size (35mm Height x 90mm Wide x 50mm Base) 3. Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl; stir in dates, carrots. Then add the combined marmalade, oil, eggs, juice and milk. Mix until just combined 4. Spoon mixture evenly into Muffin paper cases in muffin pan. 5. Cook for 20 minutes. To test if muffins are cooked insert cake skewer; if it comes out clean the muffins are ready 6. Traditionally the State Final is held at the Royal Melbourne Show. Craft and Photography are pursuits that are experiencing resurgence, not just in rural areas, but in urban areas as well. Prizes All Craft and Photography competitions have a prize for the state winner. Prizes for individual competitions will be listed under the specific heading for each of the Craft and Photography competitions. Rules & Regulations 1. All exhibits must be mounted on cardboard or matted with hanging tab on back to protect mount. Exhibitor s name, class name and number must be labelled on back of mount. An image may only be entered in one class. The same image may not be entered in for example, Colour and B & W or small print and Enlargement or any other combination. If this happens, the image will be accepted into the first occurring category in the schedule and other images removed. All images entered must be the bona fide work of the exhibitor. Stewards have the right to transfer novice entries to intermediate and intermediate entries to open section if entrant is deemed to be above the standard they have entered.
