We aim to make your experience in Fort Myers, FL and at Florida Gulf Coast University as pleasant as possible. We are pleased to present this Visiting Team Guide to you to help familiarize your team with the various details and processes for the operation of Basketball games hosted by FGCU at Alico Arena. In this information you will find contact information, travel information (maps and directions), facility information, game management information, ticket information, and all other helpful information pertinent to your visit. Please review the materials that follow and share with the appropriate personnel. Items contained in this document are subject to change based on various confounding factors involved with game day such as weather. Bradshaw Ken Kavanagh ALICO ARENA Alico Arena is a 120,000 square-foot complex, which serves as the centerpiece of Florida Gulf Coast University s NCAA Division I athletics program. Named after Alico Incorporated, whose generous contributions have made Alico Arena one of the premiere Athletic venues in South Florida and provided a home to one of the fastest growing athletic programs in NCAA Division I. Opened in the Fall 2002, Alico Arena is home to FGCU Basketball and Volleyball programs as well as the main athletic offices. Since opening, FGCU Athletics became the fastest program to transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I in history. Alico Arena has seen the unprecedented success of the Women s Basketball program, which has captured five (5) Atlantic Sun Championships as well as finishing as the runner up in the 2007 NCAA Division II National Championship in the past six years. During this time the Volleyball program capture three (3) Atlantic Sun Conference Championships. Most recently the Men s Basketball program finished the season with a program record 24 wins and it s first ever A-Sun Conference Championship in just the second year of eligibility. With its oval configuration, the 4,500 seat Arena s primary function is for FGCU s Basketball and Volleyball programs for both competition and practice. However, Alico Arena also brings people together for more than just sporting events, the Arena also has the ability to host a wide range of other special events each year, such as concerts, speakers, road shows, tradeshows, corporate events, athletic and recreation camps, University Commencement, High School Graduations, and corporate functions. Over the years, Alico Arena has hosted Dierks Bentley and the Beach Boys concerts, U.S. Vice Presidents Joe Biden and Dick Cheney, former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev, retired General Colin Powell, and acclaimed poet and author Maya Angelou. Alico Arena contains a main gym with four full sized basketball and volleyball courts. In addition to the main gym, the Arena included six suites, a Hospitality Suite, an Auxiliary Gym, the main Athletic offices, a conference room, and 11 locker rooms. Additionally, the Arena is also home to the University s Campus Rec department complete with their offices and Fitness Center. Behind the Auxiliary Bleachers on the West side of the Arena sits the Auxiliary Gym. The 8,000 square foot spaces has two drop down hoops with a full sized basketball and volleyball court. This gym is used as the primary area for intramural basketball for Campus Recreation. In addition to intramurals, this open gymnasium has the functionality to host a variety of special events bringing people together for sporting entertainment, academic, philanthropies, and business activities. The court is overlooked by the Alico Arena Hospitality on the North side of the facility. This multipurpose space not only serves as a main hub for invited guests and groups on game day, but the room is also used to host several events from guest speakers to large meetings to special luncheons. The room is set up with two drop down projection screens and two flat panels TVs, complete with surround sound, all the technology ties into the Arena s and University s technology system and has endless capabilities. In the summer of 2015, Alico Arena completed a renovation that included the addition of a new four panel center hung video board, LED video scorers tables, LED video signs, and NBA style shot clocks. 8 VISITING TEAM INFORMATION PRACTICE REQUESTS If you wish to reserve a practice time the day before or prior to the scheduled game the day of, please indicate on the visiting team form. SHOOT-A-ROUND Please request a shoot-a-round time on the Visiting Team Information Form. Depending on availability we will work with each team on providing a time slot close to the time frame requested. ARRIVAL When you arrive on campus, one of our Game day staff will meet each team upon your arrival to let you into the locker room, answer any questions, and assist with any needs each team may have. PARKING Team Parking Team Vehicles shall park on the East Side of the Arena along the curb of the sidewalk, which runs between the Arena and the Baseball Stadium. Please do not park or unload in front of the Arena. Public Parking - Parking for the public, team guests, and all spectators in available in the Alico Arena, Tennis Court, and Auxiliary Lots. Please review the maps in the appendices for a visual layout. - ADA Parking Available ADA designated spaces are located in the Alico Arena Parking Lot. BENCHES Bench Assignments: - North Bench (Closest to the Eagles for Excellence Sign) Visiting Team Bench - South Bench (Closest to the American Flag) Home Team Bench Please review the Facility Set Up Diagram for a visual of the locations. Benches will be set up with the following: - Padded Bench Chairs - PowerAde Towels - Water and Cups - Injury Ice and Bags LOCKER ROOMS Each visiting team will have a locker room available to them Two (2) hours prior to game time until Two (2) hours after the conclusion of the game. Locker Rooms will be set up with the following items: - Shower Towels - Shampoo and Body Wash - Athletic Training Items - Water, Cups, Injury Ice, and Bags UNIFORMS Please indicate the uniform color you desire to wear on the Visiting Team Information Form. 9 LAUNDRY We accommodate laundry requests if needed. Charges: - Negotiable, based on request. If you decide to solicit our laundry services, we will wash, dry, and return to the bag for the personals. For the uniforms, we will wash, dry (hang dry if requested), fold, and stack neatly in the bags provided. At the conclusion we will return these items to the hotel you are staying at. GAME MANAGEMENT Each contest at the Alico Arena will have a minimum of two (2) Game Managers from Facilities & Operations on duty. FGCU follows the Game Management guidelines as outlined by the NCAA and Atlantic Sun Conference. If you have any issues with the spectators or other Game day issues, please direct the issues to a Game Manager for resolution. VISITING TEAM CAMERAS/VIDEO If you wish to have one of your team personnel film the game, please let Game Management know ahead of time so they can direct you to the approved filming location in the platform section above Section FF. TICKETING Please refer to the ticketing section later in this guide. SPORTS MEDICINE Please refer to the Sports Medicine section later in this guide. The main athletic training facility is located in Alico Arena, Room 105, adjacent to the visiting locker rooms. Our OSC athletic training room is located on the first floor of our outdoor sports complex building. Please feel free to stop in upon your visit to our beautiful campus. All modalities and equipment listed below will be available for use in the main athletic training room. All items available for your bench are also listed along with any emergency equipment that will be available during the contest. Items noted with an asterisk will be used by a certified/licensed athletic trainer or by written orders only. Should you have any questions regarding your team's visit to Florida Gulf Coast University, feel free to contact us. If your team is traveling with an athletic training student and require use of modalities, please send written instructions for each athlete to be treated.
