Rules for Competitions and Score Sheets General Rules- Units may participate as one Patrol or designate Patrols to compete in Events. If you have more than one Patrol the Highest Patrol Score will be used to determine your Unit s Camporee Final Score. There will be awards for Highest Unit Camporee Final Scores (First, Second, and Third Place), Highest Event Scores, and Special Awards. A selection of Adult Leaders from the District and Participating Units will serve as Judges. Judges decisions are final. Each Unit will be responsible for setting up their campsite in designated area. Unit is responsible for taking down campsite and removing all trash from Camp Tekakwitha. Adult leaders are responsible for your Unit s Youth and Adult behavior at Camporee. All BSA policies will be in effect and enforced. Adults should supervise and guide Youth in preparing and participating in events. But the Camporee is for the Youth. Please let the Youth do the work and participate in the competitions/events. Be a good cheerleader and coach. Let the Youth be the players. Vehicle movement in and around camp will be strictly controlled to protect scouts. Limits will be placed on vehicles in camp. Please travel with as few vehicles as possible. Parking is very limited. After campsite setup you may be asked to remove all extra vehicles from camping area. CRYPTID Theme: Cryptozoology is the study of animals (called Cryptids) that have not been proven to exist. Crypto means hidden. Zoology is the study of animals. Cryptids often have bizarre features or unusual gifts/talents. These animals are the subject of folklore and myth and have not been discovered and proven by traditional scientific methods. Because of this, cryptozoology is considered to be a pseudoscience. That does not prevent witnesses and others from believing strongly in the existence of cryptids. Many cultures across the world believe in the existence of cryptids. In fact, some cryptids have been finally confirmed through scientific investigation and now are considered to be legitimate species. A partial list of cryptids includes: Sasquatch (Bigfoot, Yeti, etc.), Wendigo, Jackalope, Kraken, Sea/Lake Monsters (many names), Chupacabra, etc. Who s to say what else lies out there to be discovered? Scouts are often out in the wild and see unusual things. What cool animals might we discover? Sometimes we are even a little different or have unusual talents/gifts. Let s go Scouting for Cryptids and maybe find out what makes each of us unique. We need help from adults and youth to make the Camporee a success. For more information about Participating as a Unit and/or Serving as Staff at Camporee: Contact Matt Brown, mlbrownphd@gmail.com, text/mobile (on behalf of Three Rivers District and Troop/Crew/Pack 216)

Hodag Pancake Toss- During Breakfast on Saturday Units will cook Hodag Pancakes. This does not have to be all you eat for breakfast, but this is the only component that will be judged. Hodag ingredients can be any add-in to traditional pancake with points for creativity (berries, chocolate chips, gummy bears, blood syrup, etc.). A PVC apparatus will be brought to each kitchen and set up near the kitchen. A scout must toss a pancake out of the pan, it must travel over the bar on the apparatus, and be caught in the pan. The toss must be repeated a total of three times with different scouts doing the tossing. Penalties may be applied for failing to cross the bar, failing to catch the pancake, folding or breaking the pancake, losing ingredients, etc. A tosser may pick up a dropped pancake or replace a damaged pancake for follow-up tosses. Tosses are judge on form and height. Judges will taste a sample of the pancakes before tossing (so save some good ones before tossing them). Form points can be awarded for flair in the toss or attire of the scout (chef). Hodag Pancake Toss- Score Sheet Unit Patrol (if more than one Patrol competing) Creativity in Hodag additions (10 pts) Taste of pancakes (10 pts) Toss one (Scout s name ) form (20 pts) Toss two (Scout s name ) form (20 pts) Toss three (Scout s name ) form (20 pts) Hodag Pancake Toss- Score Sheet Unit Patrol (if more than one Patrol competing) Creativity in Hodag additions (10 pts) Taste of pancakes (10 pts) Toss one (Scout s name ) form (20 pts) Toss two (Scout s name ) form (20 pts) Toss three (Scout s name ) form (20 pts)

Water Monster Retrieval- Units will design and build a model of a cryptid water animal (before Camporee). The animal must be able to float in lake water. The creature will be placed in the lake at some distance from shore by the Judges. Scouts must fashion a mechanism to retrieve the creature from the water at a distance (think line and tender method or other cordage retrieval method). Points will be awarded for creativity and natural appearance of cryptid. This is a timed event. Multiple scouts can try to retrieve the creature and can work individually or in groups. Plan for the cryptid to be about 12 feet from shore and plan to travel at least 25 feet along shore before retrieving the cryptid. The clock starts when Judge places cryptid in lake and declares event has started. Scouts MAY NOT enter the water. If cryptid becomes stuck scouts may use a solid object to get creature unstuck with a 5 point penalty for each time this must be done. All retrieval must be done using cordage. Specifically, the ONLY thing that can TOUCH the floating cryptid DURING retrieval is cordage. The cryptid may have attachments on it that make connection of cordage easier. But, if these take away from the natural appearance then points may be deducted. This is not a direct (perpendicular) retrieval. You will have to maneuver it parallel to shore for some distance before pulling it perpendicularly and retrieving it. The point of this exercise is to safely retrieve a water cryptid, tame it, and replace the waterfront director at camp with it. Water Monster Retrieval- Score Sheet Unit Patrol (if more than one Patrol competing) Creativity/appearance of Cryptid (15 pts) Float-worthiness (15 pts) Retrieval method (15 pts) Scout spirit during competition (10 pts) Penalty points (5 pts per occurrence) for interfering or getting cryptid unstuck (--- ) Time to retrieve Cryptid _secs Points awarded for time (up to 45 points) 1 ST = 45 pts, 2 nd = 40 pts, 3 rd = 35 pts, 4 th = 30 pts, 5 th = 25 pts. All teams that finish get 20 pts, regardless of time Water Monster Retrieval- Score Sheet Unit Patrol (if more than one Patrol competing) Creativity/appearance of Cryptid (15 pts) Float-worthiness (15 pts) Retrieval method (15 pts) Scout spirit during competition (10 pts) Penalty points (5 pts per occurrence) for interfering or getting cryptid unstuck (--- ) Time to retrieve Cryptid _secs Points awarded for time (up to 45 points) 1 ST = 45 pts, 2 nd = 40 pts, 3 rd = 35 pts, 4 th = 30 pts, 5 th = 25 pts. 9 Land Cryptid Snare/Trap and Hunt- Units will design a primitive snare/trap device and primitive hunting device to trap and bring down a Cryptid. NEITHER THE SNARE/TRAP NOR THE HUNTING DEVICE MAY FEATURE DANGEROUS ITEMS (SHARP, UNNECESSARILY HEAVY, HIGH SPEED PROJECTILE, ETC). Judges will evaluate snare/trap and hunting device and require modifications if necessary. The cryptid to be caught will be large and stuffed, but operated by a human. At no time should the human be in danger of injury. The snare/trap may feature whatever trigger is practical. Bait may be used to lure the cryptid. The snare/trap, when triggered should sufficiently trap the cryptid without injuring it. The hunting device should subdue the cryptid. The point of this exercise is to capture a LIVE cryptid, tame it, and enlist as a BIG-Tenderfoot Scout. Scoutmaster hopes to make him an Eagle Scout. Multiple scouts may participate in this exercise. Multiple snares/traps may be used. Multiple hunting devices and/or projectiles (non-dangerous) may be used. Land Cryptid Snare and Hunt- Score Sheet Unit Patrol (if more than one Patrol competing) Creativity/design of snare/trap (20 pts) Creativity/design of the hunting device (20 pts) Operation of snare/trap (20 pts) Operation of hunting devices (20 pts) Land Cryptid Snare and Hunt- Score Sheet Unit Patrol (if more than one Patrol competing) Creativity/design of snare/trap (20 pts) Creativity/design of the hunting device (20 pts) Operation of snare/trap (20 pts) Operation of hunting devices (20 pts)

Cryptid Sled Race- Units will design and build (before Camporee) a sled to transport small cryptids. The functional parts of the sled and harness for drivers may ONLY be made from CARDBOARD, DUCT TAPE, and CORDAGE. Decorations may be added to the sled but should be purely decorative. The sled may be any size but points are awarded based on how many cryptids you can carry. The drivers (one to four scouts) will be harnessed to the sled and cryptids (as many scouts as you can haul) added to sled. The team will race from the starting point to the finish line and there may be obstacles/turns, so plan accordingly. This is a timed event with extra points added for the number of cryptids successfully transported. Plan to travel at least 300 feet and make at least two turns with sled. When sled is loaded Judges will start race. If a cryptid falls from the sled a driver may put the cryptid back on the sled. The cryptid may not help. If a cryptid falls from the sled the drivers may decide not to add the cryptid back to the sled. The number of cryptids that remain on the sled at the finish line will be used to reward cryptid points. Teams MUST provide a bicycle/skate board helmet for each cryptid (units may share helmets). Other personal safety equipment for drivers and cryptids may be used and will not cause deductions of points (must be worn and not attached to sled unless they are made from the functional materials). For example putting duct tape on harness rope is fine. Wearing gloves is fine. Cryptid Sled Race- Score Sheet Unit Patrol (if more than one Patrol competing) Creativity/design of sled (20 pts) Bonus points for finishing race with cryptids (5 pts per cryptid) Time to complete course _secs Points awarded for time (up to 45 points) 1 ST = 45 pts, 2 nd = 40 pts, 3 rd = 35 pts, 4 th = 30 pts, 5 th = 25 pts. 11 Cooking Competitions (Cooking with Cryptids and Jackalope/Wendigo Dutch Oven Dessert )- For the dinner meal on Saturday Units will prepare a Cryptid dinner and Jackalope/Wendigo Dutch oven dessert. The dinner may be made from wild game or from any other meat (store bought). The dessert may be any type of dessert cooked in a Dutch oven. Points are awarded for creativity in design of the meal/dessert and inclusion of Cryptid ingredients. Points are awarded for taste. The meal and dessert should be the SAME meal/dessert you served your Unit. So, make it appetizing to the Unit. Please plan to serve a small portion of the meal/dessert to up to four judges. Please have scouts prepare and serve the meal/dessert and be able to creatively explain the ingredients and preparation (how were the cryptids harvested/prepared?). Judges will come to kitchens to observe the preparation. Bonus points awarded for cryptid beverage(s). The score sheet will be the same for the Meal and Dessert (These are two separate competitions). Cooking Competition- Score Sheet Unit Patrol (if more than one Patrol competing) Creativity/preparation of meal/dessert (25 pts) Taste/temperature of dish (25 pts) Cryptid ingredients and role in dish (25 pts) Participation and Scout spirit during preparation of dish (20 pts) Bonus points for cryptid beverage (5 pts) Cooking Competition- Score Sheet Unit Patrol (if more than one Patrol competing) Creativity/preparation of meal/dessert (25 pts) Taste/temperature of dish (25 pts) Cryptid ingredients and role in dish (25 pts) Participation and Scout spirit during preparation of dish (20 pts) Bonus points for cryptid beverage (5 pts)

Injured Cryptid First Aid- During capture/retrieval of our new Cryptid Scout he was injured. Units will evaluate injuries and treat as needed. Units will prepare a stretcher to transport Cryptid back to camp medical lodge for further treatment. Units should provide basic first aid supplies to treat the described injury scenarios. Units should provide equipment necessary to fashion a stretcher to safely transport a cryptid (up to a 200 pound for 100 feet, not a race). The injury scenarios you may have to deal with are sprained/twisted ankle, hypothermia due to water immersion, and/or head injury with possible spinal damage. Points will be awarded for the adaptation of multipurpose scout gear for first aid and stretcher supplies. The point of this exercise is that the Cryptid recovers from treated injuries, joins the Unit, and recruits all of his friends because he was so well-treated. Injured Cryptid First Aid- Score Sheet Unit Patrol (if more than one Patrol competing) Diagnosis and Treatment of Injuries (20 pts) Stretcher construction (20 pts) Handling/Transport of patient (20 pts) Adaptation of scout gear for tasks (20 pts) Injured Cryptid First Aid- Score Sheet Unit Patrol (if more than one Patrol competing) Diagnosis and Treatment of Injuries (20 pts) Stretcher construction (20 pts) Handling/Transport of patient (20 pts) Adaptation of scout gear for tasks (20 pts)

Cryptic Cryptid Events- Units will be asked to participate in Mystery events. The only way to prepare for these events is to develop a good understanding of Cryptids and Cryptozoology before the Camporee. These events might involve Scavenger Hunt -styled searches for Cryptid evidence, Cryptid Story Telling (Maybe around the campfire), Cryptid Trivia (answer questions about Cryptids), and Cryptid Creation/Imagination (design/draw your own Unit Cryptid), etc. Cryptic Cryptid Events- Score Sheet Unit Patrol (if more than one Patrol competing) Event A (? pts) Event B (? pts) Event C (? pts) Event D (? pts) Cryptic Cryptid Events- Score Sheet Unit Patrol (if more than one Patrol competing) Event A (? pts) Event B (? pts) Event C (? pts) Event D (? pts)
