2 M A R Q U E T T E TIMELINE OF EVENTS Dec. 16, Marquette University adds men s and women s lacrosse as varsity sports Feb. 4, Marquette announces the hiring of Joe Amplo as the first head coach in MU men s lacrosse history May 2, John Orsen hired as assistant coach May 18, Stephen Brundage hired as assistant coach July 13, Inaugural recruiting class announced Sept. 20, First team practice Sept. 12, Marquette announces 2013 schedule Oct. 6, First fall ball competition at the Nick Colleluori Lacrosse Classic in Folsom, Pa. MU topped High Point, 13-7, and Robert Morris, Oct. 13, MU defeats Concordia (Wis.) 9-5 in first home fall ball game at Valley Fields. Feb. 2, First exhibition games at Michigan. MU fell to Michigan, 14-6, and beat Denison, 5-3. Feb. 23, First regular season game. Marquette lost 18-8 at No. 17/19 Ohio State. Bryan Badolato credited with MU s first goal at the 1:30 mark of the first quarter. March 2, First win at Air Force, 8-6. Badolato s gamewinning goal came with 2:53 remaining to break a 6-6 tie. April 20, First home game against Detroit results in a 14-9 victory at Hart Park. Also marks first consecutive wins in program history (High Point and Detroit). July 1, Marquette men s lacrosse officially joins the BIG EAST Conference as a full member. Feb. 17, Tyler Melnyk and Liam Byrnes are the first MU players to earn BIG EAST recognition with weekly honor roll mention after an 11-9 win at Hofstra. March 22, First BIG EAST Conference game, a 10-8 loss to Villanova at Uihlein Field. March 29, First BIG EAST Conference win at Rutgers, April 29, Joe Amplo named 2014 BIG EAST Conference Coach of the Year. B.J. Grill named a unanimous All- BIG EAST First Team selection on defense and Tyler Melnyk was also on the first team on attack. Long stick midfielder Liam Byrnes and midfielder Kyle Whitlow named to the second team. May 1, First BIG EAST Conference Championship appearance as the No. 2 seed. MU lost 9-6 in the semifinals to tournament-host Villanova. May 22, Tyler Melnyk becomes the first USILA All- American in program history with honorable mention. Sept. 22, Tyler Melynk and Andrew Smistad become first MU players selected in the National Lacrosse League draft. Oct. 10, Stephen Brundage promoted to associate head coach and Jeff Roberts to full-time assistant coach. Feb. 7, Marquette beats then-no. 18/16 Lehigh in 2015 season opener to mark the first win in program history over a ranked opponent, first win in a season opener and first time with a season record over.500. Feb. 16, Just 31 games into program history, MU enters both national polls at No. 18 in the USILA Poll and No. 17 in the media poll. Feb. 22, MU overcomes 8-4 fourth quarter deficit for OT win at Richmond. Jordan Greenfield scored a program-record six goals, including the OT winner. He was later named the national offensive player of the week. March 1, Golden Eagles rally from 9-5 deficit to top Ohio State, 10-9, in the inaugural Midwest Lacrosse Classic after also topping Detroit, 12-6, in Louisville. March 9, MU entered top 10 of the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll after pushing record to 7-0 with 14-6 win at Mercer on March 8. April 7, MU faced the nation s No. 1 team for the first time, falling 14-7 at Notre Dame. MU took an early 2-0 lead in the contest. April 18, MU played its first game in front of a national television audience, falling to No. 6 Duke, 15-8, at Hart Park in front of a record 4,575 fans. The game was the HEAD Coaches Classic in support of the HEADstrong Foundation and broadcast by the CBS Sports Network. MU legacy Conor Gately became the first Golden Eagle to surpass 100 career points with two goals and two assists. April 28, Liam Byrnes, B.J. Grill and Kyle Whitlow named to All-BIG EAST First Team; Conor Gately and Jordan Greenfield on the second team. May 18, B.J. Grill is first MU player named a USILA Scholar All-American. July 8, Graduate student Jordan Greenfield given the BIG EAST Mens Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award. Dec. 7, MU ranked No. 16 in the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Yearbook. Liam Byrnes and B.J. Grill also named preseason third team All-Americans. Dec. 16, Joe Amplo named an assistant coach with the U.S. Men s Lacrosse National Team for the 2018 FIL Men s World Championship. Jan. 22, Liam Byrnes (Florida), Jacob Richard (New York) and B.J. Grill (Denver) become the first MU players selected in the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft. Feb. 16, B.J. Grill named Marquette s first Senior CLASS Award candidate. Feb. 20, Marquette plays its first-ever home game at Valley Fields, a 9-7 win over Bellarmine. March 3, Freshman John Wagner is named to Team Canada for the 2017 FIL U19 World Championship. April 2, Marquette records its first win ever over a top-10 team, blitzing No. 5/6 Villanova 11-3 at Valley Fields. Sophomore Cole Blazer makes 13 saves in his first career start and is named the NCAA National Player of the Week. April 9, Andy DeMichiei breaks MU s single-game scoring record with seven goals as Marquette wins 11-7 at St. John s. May 3, Liam Byrnes is chosen as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. He is joined on the All-BIG EAST First Team by Ryan McNamara. B.J. Grill, Conor Gately, Cole Blazer, Zachary Melillo and Jacob Richard are on the second team. May 5, Golden Eagles earn their first-ever win in the BIG EAST Championship with a 14-9 victory in the semifinals over No. 16 Villanova. May 7, Marquette claims first-ever BIG EAST tournament title with 10-9 win at No. 1 Denver. The win is MU s first over the nation s top ranked team and earns Marquette the league s automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Win snapped DU s 22-game home winning streak and is the first loss for DU in 21 BIG EAST regular season and tournament games. MU s school record 11th win of Liam Byrnes named most outstanding player, while Cole Blazer, Tanner Thomson and Zachary Melillo named to the all-tournament team. May 8, Marquette selected as the No. 6 national seed in the NCAA Championship and will host North Carolina at Valley Fields. May 14, Golden Eagles fall to eventual national champion North Carolina 10-9 in the NCAA First Round. The game is the first NCAA tournament contest played in the state of Wisconsin. Tickets sold out in 20 minutes. May 28, Liam Byrnes (second team), B.J. Grill (third team), Jacob Richard (third team) and Ryan McNamara (honorable mention) are named USILA All-Americans. June 13-23, Team travels to Italy for three exhibition games against Team England. July 29, Former midfielder Jacob Richard is named a full-time assistant coach, replacing Andrew Stimmel. Aug. 23, B.J. Grill becomes the first former MU player to win an MLL title, helping the Denver Outlaws capture the crown as a starting defenseman. Sept. 27, Liam Byrnes (Georgia) and Kyle Whitlow (Colorado) are selected in the 2017 National Lacrosse Leage College Draft. Dec. 9, Joe Amplo wins the USILA s Howdy Myers Man of the Year Award, while MU sport administrator Danielle Josetti wins the IMLCA s Extra Man Award at the annual IMLCA Convention. Dec. 14, Conor Gately selected by the Rochester Rattlers in the MLL Supplemental Draft. Dec. 14, B.J. Grill becomes the first men s lacrosse recipient of Marquette s prestigious McCahill Award. Feb. 3, Marquette hosts High Point for a scrimmage in the newly constructed seasonal dome at Valley Fields. May 4, Marquette upsets No. 2 Denver, 11-8, in the semifinals of the BIG EAST tournament in Providence. May 6, MU becomes the first No. 4 seed to with the BIG EAST tournament with a 10-9 win over Providence in the league title game. Cole Blazer is named the most outstanding player, while Grant Preisler, Nicholas Eufrasio and Joe Dunn also make the All-BIG EAST Championship Team. May 14, Golden Eagles play their second NCAA tournament game against fourth-seeded and No. 5/7 Notre Dame at Arlotta Stadium and fall June 10, Ryan McNamara scores first professional goal with the MLL s Rochester Rattlers and Liam Byrnes becomes the second former MU player to win an NLL title as the Georgia Swarm sweep the Saskatchewan Rush for the Champion s Cup. 3

4 M A R Q U E T T E July 12, Liam Byrnes, B.J. Grill and Jacob Richard each selected to participate in Team USA Training Camp along with 46 others at US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland. July 26, Andy DeMichiei follows Jordan Greenfield (2015) and B.J. Grill (2016) as BIG EAST Scholar Sport Excellence Award winners for men s lacrosse. MU s third in as many seasons. Jan. 9, Sophomore Jared Hershman named to the roster of the Puerto Rico Lacrosse Men s National team for the 2018 FIL World Championships. Jan. 17, Jordan Greenfield and Andy DeMichiei selected by the Boston Cannons (8/64) and Florida Launch (10/88) in the MLL Supplemental Draft. March 6, Marquette breaks ground on the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center on campus to house offices, team and strength and conditioning areas as well as locker rooms for the lacrosse programs. May 25, Zachary Melillo becomes the second former MU player to suit up in the USILA North-South All-Star Game as a member of the South squad, which won Marquette Media Supplement Men s Lacrosse
