We all kept nice and warm indoors and enjoyed hot chocolate with marshmallows. Eventually we could enjoy the sunshine after all the rain. Pyjamas, hot chocolate and marshmallows are such fun at school!!

As the class had just completed the theme about Reptiles, it was a fascinating end to their learning experience. To see the snake actually swallow a mouse of that size was unbelievable! 5 Bridge House Indoor Hockey On Friday 6 September Bridge House hosted an extremely successful prep indoor hockey Festival which takes place every year. We had schools from all over the Boland taking part: Hermanus Primary, Eikestad and Courtrai Primary. All the teams thoroughly enjoyed the festival and it was a great learning experience for all the girls and boys that took part. Indoor hockey has a completely different dynamic to it as it, is much faster than normal hockey and skills play a more dominant role in the game. Bridge House did exceptionally well on the day and we were proud of the way our teams conducted themselves and the way they played hockey. Our results were as follows, Boys A: (3-0 win over Courtrai A) (1-0 win over Hermanus A) (3-2 win over Eikestad A) (4-0 win over Courtrai B) Boys B: (1-0 win over Courtrai B) (1-0 win over Hermanus B) (0-0 draw with Eikestad B) (1-0 win over Courtrai A) Girls A: (2-2 draw with Courtrai A) (0-0 draw with Hermanus A) (0-0 draw with Eikestad A) (1-0 win over Courtrai B) Girls B: (0-0 draw with Courtrai B) (0-0 draw with Hermanus B) (0-0 draw with Eikestad B) (0-2 loss against Courtrai A) Well done to all of our hockey players who took part! Bishops U12 Festival On Friday 6 September, our U12 Girls and Boys Hockey teams went to Cape Town for the Sporting Chance & Bishops Day/Night Hockey Tournament. The girls played three pool matches on the Herschel astro turf and ended 3 rd in their group. Then they moved across to the Bishops astro turf to compete in the playoffs. The girls played against Sweet Valley and unfortunately lost 0-2. They moved on to play out for the 7 th or 8 th position against Reddam. A few brilliant goals were scored and the girls won 4-0. They ended 7 th in the tournament. Jessica Dendy-Young received an award for the top goal scorer of the tournament. Congratulations on this wonderful achievement, Jessica! The boys also played three matches in their pool and ended 4 th in their group. They went on to play against WPPS in the play-offs. It was a very tight match and the teams were still equal at full-time. Extra time was allowed and the boys lost 0-1. Then the boys played against Wynberg for 7 th and 8 th position. Again, they had the same situation and lost 0-1. All the boys played exceptional hockey and received favourable comments from the opposition s parents on their sportsmanship, manners, style of play and determination. For a group of boys who had never played on Astro-turf before, these boys improved with every match and grew in confidence. Well done to all our U12 Hockey players. We are proud of you! - 5 -

6 Bridge House 7s Rugby Festival On Saturday 7 September, Bridge House hosted over 700 boys at our annual 7s rugby festival. It was a superb, sunny day for rugby where young and old had the opportunity to see great running rugby and an exciting display of skills! A BIG thank you to the Sports Department who organised and arranged this event! Also, a huge thanks to all the ground staff, coaches, WP referees, First Aiders and last but not least, the PA for organising refreshments. Together, you made the day a success! Results: U9 Drew 3 lost 2 U10 Lost 5 Won 1 U11 Lost 2 Won 2 Drew 2 U12 Won 3 Lost 1 U13 Team won all 6 games

South African & World Number one Bowler: Dale Steyn On Friday the 6 September, Bridge House was fortunate enough to have Dale Steyn grace us with his presence in our very own cricket nets.

He taught the boys a great deal about what it takes to get to the top and the kind of dedication and training you need to be one of the best.

7 South African & World Number one Bowler: Dale Steyn On Friday the 6 September, Bridge House was fortunate enough to have Dale Steyn grace us with his presence in our very own cricket nets. All the cricket boys gathered for a great afternoon with the famous South African cricketer. He taught the boys a great deal about what it takes to get to the top and the kind of dedication and training you need to be one of the best. A few lucky boys got the opportunity to face his bowling in the nets and I can safely say they were all amazed by the pace he could generate with even the smallest of run ups. After the afternoon cricket session all the parents headed off to a braai with Dale Steyn which turned out to be a wonderfully relaxing event. Big thanks must go out to Dave Rundle for helping to organise this fun social gathering. We hope to see more cricket stars coming our way in the future! Horseriding Results Many Bridge House riders participated in the Evergreen Stables show jumping and dressage training show on 7 & 8 SEPTEMBER All the riders acquitted themselves very well and showed excellent riding skills and great sportsmanship. 9 Congratulations Tristan! Tristan took part in the Free State Open Clay Target Shooting Championships. There were over 86 entrants. Results: Trap Discipline Tristan shot a 97/100 to end up overall second in the open category i.e. against year olds! So a Silver medal for that. He was awarded Gold in the Junior Category; and Team Gold for Western Province for being in the top 3 in Open category. Olympic Trap Junior Gold Well done, Tristan!
