Adrian Arredondo CEA-4-H & Youth Development San Patricio County The San Patricio County Extension Office will be closed on Monday, May 30, 2016 A&H Show Auction News The San Patricio & Aransas County Auction Committee announces that the 2017 Auction will be a Premium Sale Only. This means all animals that are shown and are major show validated and entered at a major show will be allowed to walk their animal through the show ring and receive premium auction money, and will be able to haul those animals to major stock show if desired. We are open to questions and more details will be provided at a later date. A&H SHOW AND MAJOR SHOW TURKEY ORDERS Deadline: June 1, 2015 $3.50 per bird NOTE: A minimum of 5 per order and a maximum of 75 per order. Order forms are available at the Extension Office or the County website. ORDERING DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY ENTER YOUR ANIMAL IN ANY MAJOR SHOW OR COUNTY SHOW!
2 4-H COUNCIL MEETING May 19, pm It is very important that all club presidents and council delegates attend meeting! PAGE 2 Blue Ribbon Anthony Buffa The Blue Ribbon 4-H Club met on April 17, 2016, at the Homemaking Building. Trent Wiese gave inspiration and Tracy Tannehill did an icebreaker. Roll Call was taken and minutes were read by Kathryn Buffa. Megan Frerich gave the Treasurer s report. Connie Seago informed members about the Sinton A&H Booster Club. Members made cards for service men and women as their community service. These cards will be given to the service men and women on Memorial Day. Another community service will be Eli s Fund -Service Dog. Members are asked to make a small monetary donation. New Business: Tristan informed members about the upcoming District Leadership Lab. Members voted on Senior gift and were informed about up coming officer election next month. Old Business: Megan Frerich received 2nd place in the District Fashion Show. The next meeting will be May 15, along with graduation party for Seniors and an office election. Meeting was adjourned. STEER VALIDATION June 15, :30 pm - 6:00 pm San Patricio County Fairgrounds 4-H AMBASSADOR APPLICATIONS 4-H Ambassador Applications are due to the Extension Office by 4pm on June 15, Up to 12 eligible ambassadors could possibly be chosen for the H year. Junior Ambassadors: Must be incoming 7th or 8th graders. Applications for both will be available at the Extension Office or online at Meeting Schedule May 08 - Portland May 09 - Taft May 09 - San Pat Horse May 09 - Gregory-Portland May 09 - Mathis May 15 - West Sinton May 15 - Blue Ribbon Aug 14 - Ingleside Texas 4-H Horse Validation The 2016 Texas 4-H Horse Validation Process will start on March 1, 2016 on 4-H Connect and run through April 15, 2016 at a cost of $10 per horse. From April 16, 2016 to May 1, 2016 the cost increases to $20 per horse. All horses must be validation or re-validated with payment each year, to be eligible to show at District and State 4-H Horse Shows. For those horses validated last year on 4-H Connect, you will need to re-activate and pay for validation. New horses you will need to provide photos of each side, and front as well as a pdf copy of registration papers (if registered). For more information visit: 4-H HEALTHY LIFESTYLES INVITATIONAL & RECIPE RALLY Healthy Lifestyles Invitational: Contest is open to Intermediates & Seniors & is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 7, Contest is structured similar to Consumer Decision Making Contest, where youth individually judge classes that relate to the healthy lifestyles topics listed in the contest packet. Register to participate as an individual or team. Recipe Rally: Although invitational, the Recipe Rally does require some pre-qualification prior to Texas 4-H Roundup. This is an opportunity for Intermediates & Seniors to work individually or in pairs to submit a video of them demonstrating the preparation of a recipe. All recipes should tie to the theme Picnic Perfect. Among the entries submitted, 4 finalists will be selected to be a part of the cooking demonstrations that will take place at Texas 4-H Roundup. Fee: $425 for the week. Includes: group insurance, meals, lodging, stall rental for one horse & will cover the cost of practice calves used in the teaching process. Participation: Open to all who are 12 years of age and older. Sign up will be on a first comefirst serve basis. Maximum number to be accommodated is 50. Horse Rule: All horses brought to the roping school must have had a Negative Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) test within the past 12 months. An accredited veterinarian can take care of the testing procedures & provide you with a VS 10-11, EIA test form. You must send in a copy of the VS form for every horse you intend to bring. Attendance for the 2017 Show starts in January, You must also meet UIL academic eligibility requirements by passing all of your classes. Start out the 4- H year right by attending club meetings and keeping your grades up! New 4-H members must also attend 60% of their club meeting, however, their club attendance begins on Sept. 1, Only new 4-H members will be allowed to count January 2017 attendance. The address needs to be corrected on the family profile AND in each individual s profile. The labels for the newsletter and other miscellaneous mailings are generated by the information entered by you or your family. Don t risk missing out on the monthly 4-H newsletter or other important mailings! ADULT VOLUNTEER BACKGROUND CHECK To protect our 4-H members, the Texas 4-H Program administers an adult screening program. This screening is conducted every 3 years. All adults who will be working directly with youth (other than their own children) must complete the adult registration form on 4-H Connect to be screened. Once their registration has been approved from the State office, then we can certify those adults as San Patricio County volunteers. Only those adults who have been screened and cleared through YPS will have the privilege of working with 4-H members. There is a $5 annual fee for each adult who will be a Volunteer. This fee is paid on 4-H Connect.
