First of all, our Archery workshops will be held in the grandstand area of the fairgrounds on the following Mondays in May: 9th, 16th, and 23rd. Our firearms workshops will be held at the North Porter County Conservation Club on the following Mondays in June: 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th. We have decided to separate the Archery and Firearms workshops to enable our members to better focus on one particular discipline at a time. Important notes: 1. Workshops will be from 5 to 8 each night. 2. Workshops will be canceled if there is inclement weather. 3. You must be a member of the Shooting Sports project to participate, but we are not discipline exclusive (For example, you can be signed up in the archery project and shoot the firearms, but you must be a Shooting Sports project member to participate in any of the workshops). 4. We will be doing Safety training at each workshop, so we will not have a dedicated safety workshop required this year. Please feel free to call/text me at if you have any questions. Due to the nature of my business, I may need to call you back. I am looking forward to seeing you all soon. Dennis Wells, Shooting Sports Superintedent Animal Project News Livestock ID/Enrollment Process - DUE MAY 15th As we did last year, we will be using the 4HOnline/FairEntry system for Animal ID (formerly known as Animal Enrollment). Any youth who plans on exhibiting livestock this year at the county and/or state fair will need to ID their animals in this system (this does not apply to cats, dogs, rabbits, and poultry). This will take place of the old carbon copies and the county papers that we have previously used. We understand that not everyone has a computer to input the info, therefore we will provide computer access in our office that you can use to enter your information. You should have recently received a packet of information in the mail to help prepare you for this process. If you have any questions once you review the mailed information, please contact us. Missing the May 15th deadline will result in NOT SHOWING at the county and/or state fairs. Check out for related resources or to download extra copies of forms.

5 4-H Grows True Leaders: Shout, Share, Support! In 4-H we believe in the power of youth to take on the challenges facing our communities. Last month, a nationwide movement began called the Grow True Leaders campaign. The movement begins with: Shout, Share, & Support. Shout: From April-June, let s increase the visibility of 4-H by celebrating the youth leaders in our lives through social media. Use #TrueLeaders! (See the diagram ) never hesitates to give back to the community! Proud to call him a true leader. #True Leaders #4HGrowsHere Share: From July-October, we ll reconnect our 4-H alumni to the community by asking how the 4-H pledge is relevant in their lives today. Use #4HGrown! Support: From November-December, we ll work on growing funds for our 4-H program through digital clovers. More details to come! #TrueLeaders #4HGrowsHere Club News Center Wildcats The Center Wildcats 4-H club meeting in April began with making place mats for Hospice for our community service activity. Then we tasted and judged a number of vegetables, such as beets and parsnips. During the meeting, we had our various committee give their reports: At our recent Golden Living nursing home visit we created beautiful flower baskets in accordance with the spirit of spring. Our Library Stick Puppets committee made puppets for the Children's Department summer reading program on the theme of exercise and nutrition. Our Share the Fun committee won 2nd prize for the group act. The Animal Shelter committee donated a grand total of 108 items, in addition to the great many dog toys we made out of old socks. And the Cookie Baking committee made 80 dozen cookies for Hospice stroll. We also discussed upcoming committees. After the Junior Leader Report, and the 4-H Council Report--which discussed the geranium sale--we had the Adult Leader report. This covered the 2016 Project Records, the Committee of the Month, which was Cookie Baking, and "Live Learn and Pass it On" which for this month was "Mentors." In the spirit of mentoring, the more experienced Center Wildcats members met for several minutes with younger members about their projects. A great many tips were discussed. After this we had the Safety Report which was on the project of "gardening." We finished up by awarded the prize jar and with members giving Surprise Speeches. After the meeting, we played "Simon Says" for Recreation which lead to much hilarity. Submitted by, Luke Trujillo, Center Wildcats Reporter Important Dates MAY 1... Liberty Hot Shots... 2:00 pm... 14 Fair Exhibits Must Be Registered Online by June 24th! (both animal & building projects) The online FairEntry system will open by May 17th. You must register the exhibits you plan to exhibit at the fair online between May 17 th and June 24 th. To simplify the process of check in night at the 4-H Building, this system will allow our superintendents and volunteers to be well prepared to check in your exhibit(s). Once online FairEntry opens on May 17th, those who have completed the process by May 31 st will be entered into a drawing for early bird prizes. To help ease the chaos of 4-H Building exhibit check in night, we welcome you to stop by the 4-H Building office on Thursday, July 14 or Friday, July 15 (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) to pick up your fair passes and your exhibit tags that will be generated by the FairEntry system. This is why your completing the FairEntry process is crucial, it will ensure that we have clearly printed exhibit tags for all exhibits and will allow you the opportunity to pick them up early so you can have your exhibit tagged and ready for Monday night check in. Following are some key details in regard to this process: Complete your fair entry between May 17 th and May 31 st and be entered into a drawing for early bird prizes. Instructions for completing this process will be available on the county webpage. If you know what your exhibit will be, please include a detailed description in FairEntry. When selecting department, division, and class please note that there are several options so you need to be careful when entering. (See included document titled Fair Entry Exhibit Sections to help you with this process.) If you are not sure you will be completing your exhibit, complete fair entry anyway so that we are ready to accept your exhibit if you do complete it. For projects in which you can have multiple exhibits (i.e., Floriculture, Foods, Photography) please be sure to include any that you might possibly be exhibiting. We would rather have too many exhibit tags for you than not enough.
