3 3 Alpena Area To Start New 4-H Club Monday, Oct. 6:30PM Informational Meeting Alpena Community Center Contact Joy Arhart for more info: Megan Strid Bailey Bosworth Cortney Olinger Josie McCord Brinley Fuller Rylee McCord Alli McCord The South Dakota 4-H Youth Development Program rolled out a new State 4-H Ambassador Program this year, designed to expand leadership opportunities for teens. "For years South Dakota 4-H Youth Council provided leadership opportunities through event facilitation. This new 4-H Ambassador program includes these same opportunities, and so much more," said Hilary Risner, SDSU Extension Regional 4-H Youth Program Advisor who is also co-advisor of the State 4-H Ambassador program along with Amber Erickson, SDSU Extension 4-H Youth Development Field Operations Coordinator. Through the State 4-H Ambassador Program, teens will gain hands-on leadership development experiences. The program will offer more opportunities to South Dakota teens because it is designed to engage youth in leadership development through all four 4-H program priority areas, including Ag-vocacy, Leadership, & Wellness, and Science. State 4-H Ambassadors will be expected to develop a customized action plan with their ambassador advisor. This action plan will outline leadership milestones they hope to achieve and 4-H activities they will take a leadership role in. Interviews for the 4-H Ambassador program were held during the SD State Fair and those chosen were announced on Sunday evening during a recognition program. Bailey Feistner and Nathan Linke of Sanborn County were selected as Ambassadors. Bailey plans to focus on the Ag-vocacy and & Wellness areas, while Nathan s focus will be in the Leadership area. In addition, an executive officer team was chosen for the 4-H Ambassador group. Nathan was selected to serve as the President. During their year of service, Nathan and Bailey will support the 4-H program through public relations, function as a positive role model for youth in South Dakota, continually strive for improvement in the 4-H program, promote inclusion and respect for diversity across 4-H, utilize skills and knowledge gained through 4-H to engage youth in educational activities, and proactively engage in youth-adult partnerships.
