2 Livestock ID Sheets: All breeding beef, bucket calves, feeder calves, rabbits, sheep, goat and swine exhibits have to be identified on the appropriate forms. (Market beef have already been identified and registered). If you don t have a form, please stop by or give us a call and we will get them to you. You can download several of the ID forms at: All Livestock ID sheets must be in our office by June 15. The new QA Curriculum called Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) is now active. Anyone who has not registered for the LQA online course for 2017 should now navigate to the NEW online YQCA course at yqca.learngrow.io. You will use your FAMILY 4HOnline login and password information to access the courses for the ACTIVE youth in your family. Only ACTIVE members will show in the drop down menu for access to the course. All registration questions with YQCA should be directed to help@yqca.org. There will not be local support for the YQCA program. All 4-Hers need to use the 4-H tab and not the FFA tab even if they are members of both organizations. There is a button for families that have forgotten their password. 4-Hers that have started their QA training in the LQA site will be able to complete their modules and print off their certificate of completion and take it to their Extension Office. The YQCA site is user friendly and should make it easy for 4-H families to complete their QA training for this year. Don t forget we have one more in-person class at the fairgrounds on May 17th at 6:30 p.m. Number of Beef, Sheep, Goat and Swine Entries per Exhibitor: Any livestock exhibitor may show up to 10 animals of any particular species in the project area they should choose show. That means that you can show up to 10 animals in each species. So if you choose to take 3 market beef, 2 stocker-feeders and 5 breeding beef or any combination, you would be in compliance. Another example may be swine. You could take conceivably 2 pen of three of market hogs and four breeding gilts or any combination up to 10 head of swine - should you choose to go that route. The same would apply to sheep, goats, chickens and rabbits. Remember that this rule is species specific, so you are not limited to a total of 10 animals. Clarification on Pen of Three: Exhibitors should be aware of what consists of Pen of Three such as we have in market swine, market goats and market lambs: The exhibitor must identify the three individual animals that will show in the pen of three even though they may have more than three market animals at the fair. That means that you have to identify at weigh-in which lambs, chickens, goats or swine that will make up your each pen of three. You cannot choose after the judging.

3 BEEF EXHIBITORS: Breeding Beef Registrations: Breeding beef registration papers are due in our office by J une 15 the registration must be in the name of the exhibitor, family or farm name. If we don t have papers, or at least an affidavit that proves that Registration is Applied For, then the heifer in question will be entered automatically as a commercial heifer. All breeding heifers will be checked for tattoos at the chute that will be set up for this purpose right next to where we will be weighing in market beef. Tattoos of registered animals will be checked against the papers sent in to the office. Breeding beef exhibitors - Don t forget Junior Beef Herd. Request your herd book now. Remember that all breeding beef that are to be entered at the Nebraska State Fair and/or Ak-Sar-Ben must also have a nominating card turned in before June 15! Beef Registration Certificates: The registration certificate must indicate the current owner of the animal to be one of the following: (1) the name of the exhibitor (2) the name of the exhibitor and/or a co-owner who is an immediate member of the exhibitor's family or (3) the family or ranch name or parent's name. Immediate family is defined as members of a household, including parents, brothers and sisters, and youth in care of the head of the household. Copies of the registration certificate must be submitted with entries. Original registration certificates must be presented at check-in at county fair and/or state fair. Animals whose registration papers are not approved for a specific breed division will show in the AOB class at the discretion of the Beef Superintendent. Rules for Breeding Beef Breed: To be eligible to show in a registered class a breeding animal must be owned by the exhibitor by June 15 the current year and be registered by the official breed association. Breeding heifers must be recognized as registered and eligible to show by their respective state breed association to show in the registered classes. There is no limit to the number of breeding animals that an exhibitor may bring as long as the total number of beef does not exceed 10. A clar ification of the br eeding beef classes ar e as follows: A. Angus Br eed- Heifers must be registered in the American Angus Association. B. In the Charolais Br eed, heifer s must have an AICA r egistr ation cer tificate and must be 100% pur ebr ed Charolais. All Charolais Percentage Heifers will be included in the AOB Class. These heifers must have a AICA Charolais-Cross Record and must be at least ½ blood or more charolais influence, i.e. be sired by a registered purebred Charolais bull or be out of a registered purebred Charolais female. C. In the Chianina Br eed, heifer s must be r egister ed in the Amer ican Chianina Association. Also includes Chimaine, Chiangus, or Chiford. D. In the Hereford and Polled Hereford Br eed, heifer s must be r egister ed with the Amer ican Her efor d Association. E. In the Maine Anjou Br eed, heifer s must be r egister ed with the Amer ican Maine-Anjou Association and must be ¾ blood and above. Chimaine are not accepted. F. In the Shorthorn br eed, heifer s must be r egister ed with the Amer ican Shor thor n Association and must be 15/16 registered purebreds. G. In the Simmental Br eed, heifer s must be r egister ed with the Amer ican Simmental Association and must be ½ blood or higher (can be non-simmental sired). H. In the Red Angus br eed- heifers must be registered with the Red Angus Association of America. I. Heifer s not meeting these r equir ements may be enter ed in the All Other Breeds (AOB) class i.e. Shorthorn Plus, Mainetainer, or any registered purebred heifers not offered by Nebraska 4-H. Heifers entered in the AOB class must have appropriate registration papers. Breeding Beef All Other Breeds Classification: There has been some question on what is considered All Other Breeds or AOB in the breeding beef show. Here is a quick definition: All Other Breeds as listed in breeding beef classes are registered heifers for which a separate division is not listed. These heifers must meet their State or National Breed Association's criteria for exhibition. Registered animals in traditional beef breeding classes that do not have enough animals to complete a class may also be moved to AOB. Long Yearling Heifer Class: Don t forget that we added a class for fall born breeding heifers. It allows those individuals with fall calving to be able to show their heifers. We allow heifers born between September 1 and December 31 of the year prior. Please remember that you can exhibit a heifer calf born a year ago this past fall (2016) at the county fair as a long (or fall born) yearling. They will be able to compete against the other classes for championship.

4 Cow/Calf & Stocker Feeders at County Fair: The stocker feeder male may be a steer or a bull and may be shown with a cow in the Cow/Calf class and/or Junior Beef Herd. The Stocker Feeder Male division will be divided into two classes steers and bulls. Note: There is a special affidavit for Cow/Calf Pairs. If you use the calf for both the Cow/Calf Pair and for Stocker Feeder the calf needs to be listed on two affidavits. (Cow/Calf + Stocker Feeder). It is preferred that the Cow/Calf Pair be exhibited throughout the fair, however because of the nature of dealing with a pair, the exhibitor may elect to take the pair home after completion of the show. Don t forget that all stocker-feeder calves identified for Ak-Sar-Ben must be entered with DNA hair samples before June 15. No bull calves are allowed at Ak-Sar-Ben. SHEEP AND GOAT EXHIBITORS: Weigh-in/Tag Day for Sheep & Goats: We will have a tag/ weigh-in day for all sheep and goats that will be shown at county fair, State Fair, or Ak-Sar-Ben. This includes both breeding as well as market animals. It will not be mandatory if the sheep or goats are only going to our county fair. We will have a sheep rate of gain contest, as well as a market goat rate of gain contest. In order to compete, you must weigh in at the Webster County Fairgrounds on May 23 from 5:00-7:00 pm. Don t forget Junior Sheep Breeder s Flock. Request your flock book now. We have them in our office. Adopt a Lamb for Fair: You still have time to participate in the Webster County Adopt a Lamb Project program this year. Any 4-H or FFA youth who is interested in trying the market lamb project can contact the extension office to make application for up to three lambs. We suggest that you get more than one lamb, since sheep are gregarious animals and need to be in a flock (3), or at least a pair. If it is going to be put with other lambs with another exhibitor, then one would be acceptable. The Webster County Youth Foundation will buy the lambs, and then provide those lambs on a loan basis to interested youth. The exhibitor will feed and care for the lambs, either on their own place, or at another location, which could include another sheep exhibitor or a family willing to help them out. The new sheep exhibitor would then show the lamb(s) at the Webster County Fair, and then reimburse the Foundation for the original cost of lambs, after the lambs are sold at the livestock premium auction. Please contact our office at Your application for lambs is due no later than May 15! So if you are interested in the project contact our office!! ID Rule for Sheep and Goats: Sheep and goats are required to have two forms of identification. A 4-H or FFA tag plus, either a scrapies tag, or a Nebraska 840 EID tag for those market animals that may go on to Nebraska State Fair or Ak-Sar-Ben. Currently only female and intact males need scrapie tags, but now all sheep and goats will need a second form of identification. Any ewe and/or intact ram of the ovine species (sheep) and any doe of the caprine species (meat goat) must have a scrapies tag in its ear and be identified with this unique tag number in addition to the 4-H tag on the 4-H/FFA entry form. This scrapies tag counts as one of the two tags required. No tags will be handed to exhibitor or parents. They will have to be put in the animals by a leader, extension educator, or FFA Advisor, and no sheep or beef entries will be weighed without a 4-H and/or FFA tag. Each sheep or goat must have two identifying tags and registered as such on the affidavit. Remember that all breeding sheep and goats that are to be entered at the Nebraska State Fair and/or Ak-Sar-Ben must also have a nominating card turned in before June 15! Market Goat Show: Market Meat goats may be either does or wethers. We have a market goat breeding female show to go along with the normal market meat goat show. They need to be tagged with the same tags we tag the breeding ewes with, plus the second tag which can be either a Scrapies or EID tag. Remember that this is a market goat breeding female class. Only female market goats will be allowed to show in this class and classes will be divided on the number of animals entered. Of course we will still have the traditional Market Goat classes.

5 Dairy Goat Show: The total number of goats allowed apply to both Dairy and Meat Goat projects. Classes will be breeding only and will mirror the class structure of the Meat Goat Breeding Female show. Dairy goats must have either USDA Scrapies tag or herd tattoo plus their individual ID or 4-H tag. SWINE EXHIBITORS: Swine Identification: 4-H or FFA tags are required at Webster County and universal notches must be in the respective pig s ears if they are going on to State Fair and/or Ak- Sar-Ben and both need to be on the identification sheet prior to June 15. Please note that any 4-H or FFA market hog that may go on to the Nebraska State Fair or Ak-Sar-Ben must have a Nebraska 840 EID tag. You will also need to obtain hair samples for DNA if the pigs may be going to State Fair or Ak - Sar-Ben in 4-H. You will need to request envelopes and pull samples from your pigs before the June 15 date and get them to our office. State Fair will allow pigs previously exhibited at a county fair to be entered at State Fair. Remember though that any swine going beyond our County Fair has to be notched and identified as such on the ID sheet. The exhibitor may show in market swine or breeding swine classes. Please consult your Webster County Fair Book for weight restrictions. Breeding Gilts: Please note: You cannot enter the breeding gilts in the premium auction, but they may be either taken home or put on the truck with the market hogs. Remember that all breeding swine that are to be entered at the Nebraska State Fair and/or Ak-Sar-Ben must also have a nominating card turned in before June 15! Market Swine: An exhibitor may show more than one pen of three market swine, but they must be identified during weigh-in/check in during fair. It must be noted however that only one unit (up to a pen of three) of market hogs may be entered into the livestock premium auction. However, any and all hogs may be put on the truck and sold to the packer for packer bid NOTE: If you elect to take your pigs at the state fair please read: The following guidelines are required by Hormel for purchase of show pigs from the Nebraska State Fair. All exhibitors shipping animals to Hormel must: 1. Be PQA+ trained by a certified PQA+ Youth trainer and assigned a PQA+ number which will be requested when state fair pre-entries are completed. 2. Record the PQA+ number on the Hormel Swine Affidavit which is sent to Hormel at the time of shipping. 3. Provide a Premise ID number when completing pre-entries. 4. Complete all sections of the official Hormel Swine Affidavit and send it to Hormel at the time of shipping. We have copies of the Hormel Swine Affidavit and Treatment Record in our office. If you don t have your PQA number you need to get that done in this coming month! POULTRY EXHIBITORS: Poultry Rules: An exhibitor may enter in both broiler classes and production trio classes (3 laying hens or 2 laying hens and a rooster). Exhibitors must be present at time of judging, since poultry will be judged out of their cages. Weight standards for various breeds will be those as set by the American Poultry Association Standards of Perfection. Poultry must be grown in club member's current poultry project year after January 1, 2016 to be eligible to exhibit in age specific classes. To be eligible to exhibit in the aged poultry classes, the poultry must have been exhibited at the county fair in a previous year or raised in a previous year but too young to exhibit. Don t forget that the poultry were split into Bantam and Standard classes with classes respectively in Cockerel, Pullet, Trio, Aged Rooster, Aged Hen and Production Trio. There is a Duck Division followed by an All Other Poultry Division which would include species like guinea hens, turkeys, geese, pea hens, etc.
