13 Bell County 4-H May Newsletter Page 13 When the Bell County Barking Buddies 4-H Dog club heard about the explosion in West their hearts went out to the people of that town. They then thought of the pets. How scared the dogs and cats must be, how concerned those that had to leave their homes and their 4 legged family members behind must be. So the Barking Buddies 4-H club jumped into action. The club leader called and found out where the animals were being housed. The animals were being taken to the Waco animal shelter. Being familiar with the size of the shelter, the club leader knew that help would be needed. A bake sale was quickly set up at the Tractor Supply Company stores in Temple and Killeen. A request was sent out to all 4-H members asking for help. Within two hours on Sunday April 21 st the club, with the help of generous Tractor Supply customers had raised $298.00, collected over 150 lbs of dog food, 5 gallons of bleach, over 40 rolls of paper towels, 4 stainless steel dog bowls and a 20 lb bag of cat food. The items were delivered on Tuesday April 22 nd to the shelter. The workers at the shelter were very appreciative of the items. While there, the club members saw a man from the West area come in looking for his dog, but the dog was not there. Unfortunately all the animals have not been found or picked up as of yet. The shelter will continue to need help with feeding and vet bills for those animals whose owners have not been able to come looking for them or don t yet have a safe place to keep them. If you would like to donate please contact the Waco animal shelter. Large animals are being held at the West auction barn.
