2 Intrductin Thank yu fr chsing WinTech Racing as yur rwing equipment surce. Please take a little time a read this manual, as it is intended t be a useful tl t yu in having a truble free rwing experience. With sme simple guidelines laid ut in this bklet, yu shuld be able t avid r reduce the chances f damage t yur equipment and experience years f truble free rwing. Bat Preparatin Befre lading yur bats fr transprtatin it is imprtant t prperly prepare yur bat against damage and lst parts Riggers shuld always be remved fr transprtatin as they culd damage yur car, trailer r ther bats arund them. If riggers verhang the side f the vehicle, they can als catch n statinary bjects and break Rigger nuts, blts and washer shuld stay n the bat in their riginal psitin. If the blts are stred n the rigger, they can scratch ther riggers r punch hles in yur rigger bag. Seats shuld be fastened t the seat tracks with the prvided bungee crd t ensure it des nt fall ut during transprtatin. Hles are drilled in the track flange fr this purpse. The wing nuts and tube nuts shuld be tightened n the ftstretcher track and ft plate t prevent the lss during transprtatin. These 6 nuts frequently lsen while rwing and vibratins f traveling can cause them t fall ff. The Velcr straps n the shes shuld be attached t keep them frm unnecessary fraying during transprtatin. Wiring harness fr vice, rate and speed shuld be secured t the bat t avid being damaged r damaging the bat r surrunding bats during transprtatin. Every bat cmes with a stern flag lp, be sure t use this even if it is within the legal verhang. A stern flag can be instrumental in aviding serius accidents by making sure yu and thers knw where the stern is. Trailer Transprtatin Trailering bats is a necessary but dangerus part f rwing, which many caches are nt frmally trained r prepared fr. Nthing shuld be taken lightly in this prcess as yu can easily find yurself in a situatin where imprperly laded bats and rigging can becme damaged r cause accidents n the rad. When lading bats n a trailer, make sure that neither the bw nr stern verhang is extreme. Secndly, make sure that the bats near the twing vehicle are far enugh away as nt t hit it during tight turns r sharp inclines. Fr 8 s and 4 s, make sure that there are 3 and 2 trailer arms n the flange respectively where straps will be placed. Fr 2x/- s and 1x s, try and have bth trailer arms n the bat flange. If this is nt pssible, rest at least ne flange n the crssbar and the ther n the deck. Make sure t thrughly pad the bar and nt ver Cpyright 2014 Hangzhu Flying Eagle Bat C., Ltd 1/12

3 tighten the strap. The bw and stern deck are nt designed fr a heavy lad and can be dented with t much pressure. If yu have a full lad and strap a single r duble n the underside f the trailer arm, be aware that the cckpit will catch any water frm the rain r rad spray. A full cckpit suspended frm 2 bat straps can weigh enugh t seriusly damage the bat please take cautin in this respect. Never use a bat strap that is frayed r brittle, a brken $5 bat strap can cause thusands f dllars in damage. Make sure that the strap is always flat against the hull and that the metal buckle is nt near r n the hull as it can chip the paint during transprtatin. Enugh tensin shuld be applied t the bat strap as t keep the bat frm mving side t side when tugged n. The lse end f the strap shuld be secured n the trailer arm t avid fraying. Riggers shuld be stred in the trailer clser t the axles t avid mre mvement r in the bed f the twing vehicle. Outstay riggers can be nested by sideand tied tgether fr safer transprtatin. The mst damaging part f the rigger is the pin and tp nut, which can scratch and puncture ther riggers. Always duble check that all bats are tied dwn crrectly and the lad is secure befre driving. Riggers Rigger Optins There are many different rigger styles t chse frm, each with their wn set f advantages. Wing riggers vs Outstay riggers wuld be the chice t start with first as this determines the cckpit shape. Then the secnd ptin wuld be t g with Carbn r Aluminum cnstructin, which determines the perfrmance level and cst. Aluminum riggers are the standard rigger included in the cst f WinTech bats, s if yu chse t purchase carbn riggers, then there will be additinal charges. Aluminum Outstay Carbn Outstay Aluminum Fil Wing Carbn Fil Wing Aluminum Tube Outstay riggers are the mst traditinal rigger ptin. Fur blts cnnect the rigger t the saxbard and each rigger can be adjusted vertically +/- 1.5cm thugh the extra set f hles drilled n the rigger ft. These hles give yu a greater range f height adjustment if needed. WinTech Aluminum Riggers are Hard Cated t give yu extremely durable riggers resistant t scratching and crrsin. Carbn Fiber Tube Outstay riggers are fr elite crews lking t save weight and transfer pwer efficiently. These riggers are designed with a Bw munted tube and a C-shaped pin hlder. This will allw yu t fine tune the rigger t yur desired pitch. The uni-directinal prepreg carbn fiber cnstructin is extremely light and stiff, but is susceptible t damage during transprtatin, s please stre the riggers in the prvided bag. Aluminum Aerfil Wing riggers munt n tp f the cckpit flange thrugh fur hex-blts. The height f the saxbard fr a wing bat has been reduced frm that f the utstay bats t prvide prper hand clearance ver the wing during the strke. Wing Riggers strengthen the bat thrugh the crss bar spanning the cckpit. The wing riggers als prvide mre space in the cckpit due t the absence f rigger blts and ribs in the saxbard. WinTech Aluminum Riggers are Hard Cated t give yu extremely durable riggers resistant t scratching and crrsin. Carbn Fiber Aerfil Wing riggers are fr elite crews lking t save weight and transfer pwer efficiently. The Carbn Wing riggers are made with High Mdulus Prepreg Carbn fiber and a Nmex cre sandwich cnstructin. The carbn fiber cnstructin is extremely light and stiff, but is susceptible t damage during transprtatin, s please stre the riggers in the prvided bag. 4 Quick Release System WinTech's breakthrugh Quick Release Wing Rigger saves bth time and strage space. Yu can rig r de-rig yur bat faster and duble the strage rm in yur bathuse. Quick release hard ware is currently n available fr Aluminum Wing riggers, which are als standard Aluminum Wing. Quick Release wing riggers d nt need any tls t rig r de-rig yur bat. This system wrks with cam blts attached t the rigger and keyed plates attached t the bat. The Cam blts slide int the plates and then yu lck the blt int place by rtating the cam handle. The whle prcess takes a matter f secnds t rig r de-rig yur bat. 1. Tighten the set screw 2. Set the rigger 3. Open cam and depress 4. 5 Cam Plate If yu are having truble with yur Quick Release system, please check the fllwing cmmn prblems fr simple remedies. If the rigger is hard t put n, make sure that when yu put the rigger n the cam plate that yu hld the rigger flat with ne hand and with the ther make sure the cam handles are in the pen psitin and are fully depressed. Otherwise the blts will nt slide int place. If the rigger is nt lcking tight r is t tight t lck, use a 2.5mm allen key and lsen the set screw. Then yu can either lengthen r shrten the length f the cam blt t the desired tensin when the cam is in the lcked psitin. Yu can d this by simply turning the cam blt clckwise t shrten r cunterclckwise t lengthen. If yu rw in salt water, yu may find that salt crystals build up in the mechanism, which can make the rigger hard t get n and ff. It is recmmended t wash yur rigger after each rw and thrughly clean all the parts t each seasn t keep the quick release perating smthly. If yu n lnger want the Quick Release system, yu can always revert t a blt n rigger thrugh disassembling the QR cmpnents and blting the rigger thrugh the flange. Rigging Instructins WinTech bats are supplied with the basic set f tls and spare hardware in a cnvenient puch t get yu n the water. Yu may find that additinal tls and hardware will aide yu. Each rigger has been pre-rigged at the factry t the average height and spread/span nted n the charts belw as well as set t 4 degrees f pitch. Tl descriptin 10mm Wrench r nut driver Outstay riggers need ne wrench, while wing riggers will need tw t tighten the rigger t the bat. 13mm Wrench Tp nuts n Eur slt riggers use this wrench as well as all the nuts n the rigger heads fr the Carbn Outstay rigger and the Carbn Sculling Wing Rigger. Yu will need tw 13mm wrenches fr the C hlders n these riggers. 17mm Wrench This will hld the pin while yu tighten the bttm nut n the Eurslt 19mm Wrench This will tighten the bttm nut n the Eurslt riggers 25mm r 1 inch Wrench yu will need tw f these wrenches t adjust the length r tighten yur backstay. Rigger Munting Wing riggers cme with 3 munting psitins t prvide yu with the ability t achieve yur desired wrk-thrugh, r if necessary, trim the bat fr a variable weight crew. With all 4 blts, put a flat washer in between the blt head and wing rigger, place the rigger ver the desired set f hles, and depress the blts int place. With ne hand hlding the rigger firmly in place, starting with the stern blts, put a flat washer, lck washer and M6 nut nt the bttm and tighten with tw 10mm wrenches. 6 De-rigging Backstays shuld be put n the rigger after the wing r A-frame f the aluminum tube has been fastened t the bat. A large fender washer ges abve and beneath the backstay n the pin and the then nylck nut will fasten it dwn. When remving Aluminum riggers frm the bat, it is imprtant t lsen the tp nut n the back stay ½ turn befre taking it ff the bat. When yu stre the rigger, yu shuld rtate the backstay parallel t the stern stay, which will allw the riggers t nest easier. If yu d nt lsen the tp nut and try t rtate the backstay, yu culd bend the backstay where it cnnects t the pin. Spread/Span Adjustment Spread (Sweep Bats) can be adjusted n yur Eurslt Rigger head by lsening the bttm nut with a 19mm wrench and hlding the pin frm turning with a 17mm wrench. Measure the spread frm the center f the bat. Start by measuring acrss the saxbard, frm the inside, divide that number in half and put the tape n flange using the determined figure. This will put the end f the tape at the center f the bat and yu can determine spread. Height Adjustment Fr adjusting Span n yur sculling riggers, fllw the prcedures abve t lsen the Eurslt and Carbn Tube riggers. WinTech Racing utfits each pin assembly with a full cmpliment f snap n height spacers, with a cmbinatin f 5m and 10mm tall. T adjust the ar lck higher, remve spacers abve the arlck and put belw (nte: if ding this n the water, the spacers will flat if drpped in the water). Measure the height frm the middle f the seat tp, while at the stern stps, t the middle f the inside f the arlck. Pitching Cpyright 2014 Hangzhu Flying Eagle Bat C., Ltd 5/12

7 Using the prvided Cncept 2 pitch bushings yu can change the angle f yur ar lck. Yu will need t remve the ar lck frm the pin t change the bushings. Each bushing has 2 numbers that will give yu that pitch n a vertical pin. On the tp, the number yu want shuld face the gate and n the bttm, the same number shuld face away frm the gate. T check pitch, set yu bat in slings n a stable lcatin. Put the pitch meter n the flange f the bat, which is cnstructed level t the water line and with the needle n the lwer 0 degree mark, align the bubble in the gauge t be in the center. Next put the vertical face f the pitch meter n the vertical face f the ar lck and mve the needle until the bubble is in the center. This will shw yu what the pitch is. Yu can als pitch the pin itself, making sure it is vertical. Eurslt Pin Hlder Assembly Diagrams Truble Shting The fllwing ideas can help yu fine tune yur riggers t yur rwers r adapt the rigging t a larger r smaller crew than the bat is built fr. Sme times yur equipment may be cme damaged frm transprtatin and misuse and the pitch may becme bad. Please d nt bend aluminum wing riggers t change the height r pitch. The prfile will kink which will further weaken the tube r the welds. This is a last resrt measure. Eur Slt Pitch inserts can be purchased thrugh WinTech Racing and are available in 0.5 degree increments up t 2 degrees. They fit ver the pin and lck int the Eurslt n the rigger head. 8 Wing Shimming can be accmplished thrugh using larger plastic fender washers in between the rigger ft and the flange. The sweep wings cam be shimmed n ne side t raise and lwer the rigger head, while sculling wings needs can be shimmed under the bw r stern blts t change the height f the rigger heads. The afrementined methds f pitch adjustment will be needed t get the pin back t 0 degrees. Rigger Maintenance There are many simple steps t increase the life f yur riggers frm cmmn sense practices t seasnal cleaning. This will als allw yu t see what parts need replacing and repairing befre the start f the next seasn. When transprting riggers, make sure t use a bag when available, this is especially imprtant fr wing and carbn riggers. When string the riggers in the trailer, make sure that they are nested in a way that they will nt damage each ther and lash them dwn t the trailer bed t eliminate mvement. If yu rw in a saltwater envirnment, use BeShield n all the Stainless Steel parts t prtect against crrsin. This can be purchased at WinTech s nline stre. It is als highly recmmended that yu wash dwn yur riggers after each rw. The grwth f the salt crystals in the rigger cmpnents can cause damage frm increased frictin and crystal expansin. After each seasn, disassemble the rigger head t clean any grit in the pin r any build up f salt. Use a brass brush and WD40 t clean ff this buildup. Check the Cncept 2 ar lck bushings fr wear. These can becme wrn and will nt hld yur pitch cnsistently. Oarlcks are the sftest part f the rigger. Make sure that the cllars f yur ars and arlcks are free f grit befre rwing. If nt, each feathering mtin with grind away at the plastic, leading t wrn arlcks, which will need t be replaced. The threaded inserts n the back stays can becme dry and hard t perate. Over time it may be necessary t grease the threads. Use Lithium grease t lubricate and preserve the life f the nuts and insert. Steering Fins The fins n all WinTech bats are fixed t the bat using a fin bx, which is bnded int the bat. If a fin is damaged r brken, yu can remve it r the remnants by pushing it frward and then lifting up the stern end. This will release the flange f the fin frm the slt. T replace the fin, make sure t clean ut the slt f the fin bx first. Then insert the tip int the fin bx and slide twards the bw. Then set the stern end in the fin bx and then slide all the way t the stern. Place a dab f silicne ver the bw end f the fin bx t secure it in place. Rudder T remve the rudder frm an integrated fin, yu will first need t remve the fin. Please fllw the instructins abve. Cpyright 2014 Hangzhu Flying Eagle Bat C., Ltd 7/12

9 Once the fin is remved, remve the nut n tp f the rudder crss bar and then pull the rudder ut frm the hull. T replace the rudder, yu will ntice that there is a rubber gasket n the rudder pst make sure this is in place and use sme grease n the pst fr a gd water tight seal. Once the rudder is back in the bat, put the crss bar n the pst, seating it in the squared hle f the rudder crss bar. Rudder Wires Fr ft steered bats, the rudder wires shuld crss each ther. Fr cxed bats, the rudder wire shuld nt crss each ther. Ftretcher Assembly Heel Straps Heels straps may seem insignificant and useless, but their intrductin t the rwing wrld as a mandatry item was the result f a fatal rwing incident. The strap allws the she t articulate 3 inches, but n further, s if a bat tips ver, the rwer can remve their feet frm the she and swim t safety. Please make sure t have these fully peratinal fr every rw. WinTech shes cme with a plastic clip which can easily be fastened t the she. Tie the lse end f the string t the hle n the ftplate under each heel. Be sure nt t lp the string under the ftplate frm Heel t Heel Ftstretcher Angle The angle f the ft bard can be change thrugh the heel clip. The central red hexagnal insert can be rtated t change the angle, when the hle is n the tp the ftbard is arund 45 degrees and when it is n the bttm, it is clse t 42 degrees. She Height The height f the shes can be changed by taking ff the cylindrical wing nuts inbetween the shes. Once remved, yu can mve the shes n the she plate vertically t anther set f hles. Make sure t replace the washer, split-lck washer and wing nut when finished. Assembly Diagram The diagram belw illustrates the prper assembly rder and hardware needed t cmplete yur ftstretcher system. Please nte that fr wden plate ftstretchers, the crss tube is attached t the ftstretcher plate via tube clamps n the back side f the ftstretcher (parts 263 and 266). 10 Maintenance The ftstretcher system shuld be checked every seasn fr wear and tear and that the prper hardware assembly is present t assure that everything is peratinal fr racing. In case f a ftstretcher track breaking, yu can remve the 4 screws frm the deck with a Philips head screw driver. When replacing the track be sure t reset the screws by hand, because there is a stainless steel nut plate bnded under the deck. If yu use a screw gun at high speeds, it culd cause the nut plate t crss thread, r pp ff the deck. If the nut plate needs t be replaced, yu can reach inside the deck and glue it back n with epxy. Make sure that the screw is fully tightened t the nut plate t ensure that it cures in the crrect psitin. If yur shes becme lse ften, yu can try using a liquid thread lck n the screws. Be sure t use a brand that is semi-permanent like Lctite Tite n r Lctite 242. Seat Operatin When traveling it is nt necessary t remve the seats frm the bat, but is it recmmended t use the supplied bungee crds t secure the seats against the tracks. Fr lnger jurneys, yu can remve the seat t keep them cleaner. T remve the seat, slide it t the stern stps and pull the stern edge twards the ftstretcher. With yur free hand sharply hit the bw end f the seat twards the stern t vercme the stern stps. D nt remve the seat frm the bw end. T replace the seat, starting at the stern end f the seat tracks, make sure the curved end f the seat is facing the bw. 11 stern stps. And then slide the seat twards the bw making sure that the hks f the seat riser are n the underside f the seat track flange. Sharply hit the stern end twards the bw t get the stern wheels ver the stern stps. Once the seat is in the track, pull up n the seat t make sure it is prperly in place. If ne side pps up, remve and try again. If engaged prperly, the seat shuld be able t hang frm the seat tracks while upside dwn. Fr traveling, it is recmmended t use the bungee crds t secure the seat t the bat. Hk ne end f the bungee crd t the stern hle and thread the ther end in between the seat axle and seat tp and hk n the bw hle. This will keep the seat secure if it falls ut. Even thugh the seat is designed t stay in the bat when upside dwn, the seat tracks culd cme lse enabling the seat t vibrate free. Seat Height Setting WinTech racing has develped a seat riser which can be adjusted vertically t bimechanically ptimize yur rwer s bdy psitin in the bat. The seat arrives frm the factry in the middle setting giving yu +/- 8mm f vertical adjustment. This adjustment can be used t psitin yur crew mre precisely t the water line, r adjust a rwers height depending upn their trs t leg rati. Using an 8mm wrench and #2 phillips head screw driver remve the nylck nut and blt frm the seat riser n ne side. Realign the hles t yur new setting and replace the screws with a washer against the riser and then tighten the washer and nut against the inside f the riser. Repeat with the ther side making sure the nylck nuts are fully tightened befre rwing. Seat Diagram The diagram belw illustrates the prper installatin rder f hardware fr ur seat. Wheel Maintenance Taking care f yu wheels can really make the difference in hw the bat feels and hw smth yur recvery is. A well maintained set f wheels shuld rll back t the stern stps by gravity alne. If yu rw in salt water make sure t il r Besheild yur wheel bearing at the beginning f each seasn. 12 Make sure t remve yur shes r clean ff yur feet befre stepping int the bat. Sand and grit in the tracks will damage the wheels and seat tracks thrughut the strke. By keeping yur slides clean, yu will increase the life f bth parts Each seasn remve the seats frm the tracks and manually clean the wheels. Debris can becme caked nt the wheels frm general use and this can make the wheels feel bumpy. A scrub brush and ht sapy water will clean them right up. If yur wheels becme wrn r the bearings seize up, use a 10mm wrench t remve the blt frm the axle. When replacing the wheel, make sure t use semi permanent thread lck n the blt (Lctite Tite n r Lctite 242). Seat track remval, adjustment and replacement Setting yur seat tracks prperly can affect the prper travel f yur slide and the catch and release angles thrughut the strke. Make sure t adjust the seat tracks in the bat befre rwing. Depending upn hw much wrk thrugh yu rw with, yu may need t adjust the psitin f the seat tracks. It is cmmn t measure frm the center f the pin t the center line f the bne hles in the seat t determine yur prper catch angle. T adjust the tracks, simply unscrew the inspectin prt and reach inside and unwind the wing nuts a cuple turns. There shuld be 2 n each track. Once lse lift up n the track t lsen the blts and then slide t yur desired psitin and retighten. Make sure that the prt and starbard track are placed evenly by sliding the seat t an end, prt and starbard wheel shuld tuch the end tgether. T remve the seat tracks, cmpletely remve the wing nuts frm the blts, making sure t take ut the bnded washer. Then yu can lift the track and riser vertically frm the seat deck. There are cmpressin bushings set int the seat deck fr the seat track blts make sure that they are in place befre putting the track in. If they fall ut, yu will prbably find them inside the deck cmpartment, yu can use a dab f silicne t attach them back t the seat deck. T replace the track, make sure that the stern stps are facing the stern and that the seat track flange is facing the center f the bat. The flange f the seat track is t hld the seat in the bat when the bat is upside dwn. Make sure that yu always use the bnded washer against the underside f the seat deck; this will keep water frm entering the sealed cckpit thrugh the blt hles. 13 Truble Shting If yur rwer s legs are falling asleep while rwing, the circulatin f bld frm their upper bdy is being cnstricted frm pressure pints n the seat. This culd be the result f a few different things. Try lwering the seat t heel distance, which will reduce the angle f yur legs at the release reducing pressure n yur legs at the stern end f the seat. Yu can als tilt the seat tp twards the stern thrugh lwering the blts ne space n the seat riser. Just remve the stern blts and align them with the next hle dwn. This will effectively lwer the stern edge f the seat, reducing pressure n yur legs. WinTech racing sells a variety f seat pads, which give a little cushin at these hard pints and can increase bld circulatin. If yur rwers slip ff the seat at the start, yu can purchase sme nn-slip tape t up n the seat tp. This will grip the rwers clthing better and help keep them n their seats. If yu find yur seat tracks are mving during yur rw: Check the prper assembly f hardware n the seat track blt. There shuld be a bnded washer wing nut t keep the blt tight. A missing bnded washer culd allw the seat track t lsen while rwing. If the assembly is crrect, then use mre frce t tighten the wing nut. Yu can use a tl t tighten them. When yu are rwing, yur bdyweight cmpresses the deck, remving the tensin n the wing nut which allws it vibrate and lsen. Mre pressure will help keep it tight.
