The slar tubes are supplied with a ten year warrantee frm date f purchase against faulty materials. Tw years n the pump and cntrller against manufacturing defects. This warranty des nt cver frst damage, pr water quality, ver temperature, ver pressurizatin, abuse r general wear and tear and is replicated t the purchaser as supplied t Advanced Slar Technlgies Limited by their suppliers with n increase r extensin f cverage ffered r implied. The installatin must have been installed as per the latest Sunshine Slar installatin instructins by an apprved installer r assessed by an assessr as nminated by Advanced Slar Technlgies Limited and have been maintained as per ur maintenance schedule by the same. All ther parts supplied are prvided with a 12 mnth warranty against faulty materials and wrkmanship. These warranties are replicated t the purchaser as supplied t Advanced Slar Technlgies Limited by their suppliers. Yur plumber shuld als carry a 12 mnth warrantee against faulty wrkmanship and installatin equipment. If yu have any cncerns at first instance cntact yur installer. 6 Setting up the cntrller SR868C8Q Cntrller Use page 10 and 11 f cntrller manual as a guide. Cntrller may already be prgrammed, if pre-prgrammed always check settings t ensure all crrect. Pressing set will allw yu t change a setting, use + and - t change the setting, pressing esc will take yu back ne setting and will nt lse the stred data. Set time using the time and date buttn, + and - t change. Press the SET buttn and a Passwrd will cme up, set this t 0000 by pressing the SET buttn fur times. This will take yu int a menu screen DT0, press SET and then + t make this read 12C, press esc. Heating using the cntrller thrugh a relay Nte: if yu are using a slar cylinder then nrmally d nt use this functin but cnnect tp element directly t the mains supply. Frm DTO abve. Switch-n temperature difference. Press + and it will say DTF press SET and then + t make this 8C. Switch-ff temperature difference. Press esc. Press + and it will say THET. Press SET and it will say TH1O (Timing Heating 1 On), press SET and then t make this 0100, press set twice until it has a temperature 40. Press plus t increase this t 50. Press ESC then + display shuld say TH1F change this t 0700 and 60C in the same way. TH2O and TH2F shuld bth be 10:00, TH3O shuld be 17:00 and 50C, Change TH3F t 23:00 and 60C. Press + t TEMP menu, press set. EMOF 130C press esc, press +. Cllectr maximum switch-ff temperature. EMON 120C press esc, press +. Cllectr maximum switch-n temperature. CMX ' ' press esc, press +. Maximum temperature f cllectr (Cllectr cling functin). CMN ' ' press esc, press +. Lw temperature prtectin f cllectr. CFR 2C press esc, press +. Frst prtectin f cllectr. SMX SET t 80 C fr retrfit cylinders r fr slar r wetback. Maximum tank temperature. All ther functins shuld nrmally be ff. FUN menu press set, press + until nmin press set change t 50%. Minimum pump speed. Press ESC 3 times t escape ut f setup. Warning: When using the cntrller t cntrl the element this is activated by the tp sensr being under the set pint. Mst slar cylinders have the sensr pcket t high, this shuld be at the halfway pint. If using a high sensr pcket (T3) t cntrl the element yu will nt guarantee the client mre than 30L f ht water. 7 Limitatins and clauses required fr AS2712: A. The slar water heater, parts and fittings are usable up t 10 bar pressure / 1000kPA. The system is made f cpper s pl levels f chlrine are nt acceptable fr use. Fr levels f high lime cntent please check the element in cylinder is incally therwise Sunshine slar panels are capable f handling pr water quality. B. I The water heater will be installed in accrdance with AS/NZS including insulatin and piping. II III IV V Cpper piping shuld be used nly, thrughut install as per attached instructins. Cylinders t be installed s t allw fr draining f system, water expansin and relief f vacuum as per AS/NZS Drain trays t be installed as per AS/NZS3500.4, where required. N/a. In case f hard water buildup f lime may ccur n ht areas, ensure element type is suitable fr the water type therwise sftening f water may be required. C. The system is designed fr level 1 and 2 frst prtectin, if in areas f lng term belw zer temperatures a clsed lp system is advised. D. Guards t the cllectrs may be required in areas f vandalism r large hail znes (Sydney). E. In areas f cyclnic cnditins specific engineering design is required; refer t Installatin Handbk rev B fr limitatins. Panels weigh 18.8kg/m2 when full f water. F. Fr full installatin including rf structure spacing please refer t Engineering Installatin manual, purlin tables etc. Slar t be installed as t nt cmprmise the structural integrity f the building. G. Ensure apprpriate fixings per rf type as cntained in this manual, fr rf types utside f these then refer t engineering manual therwise specific engineer design required. H. Cntrller manual t be supplied t custmer (which has a bst instructin highlighted). I. Cntrller manual t be supplied with the default (printed settings f the thermstats). J. Fllw the finishing ff instructins cntained fr cmmissining f the system. K. Ensure that all systems have an apprpriately slar capable tempering valve and this is set t 55C r 45C fr elderly, schls and preschls applicatins. 8 Ptential prblems 1. N ht water: a. Check element is switched n at the wall. b. Check that the fuse in the thermstat has nt ppped may need t replace with aut-reset thermstat, reduce SMX by 5 C. c. Check the timing fr the element is n fr lng enugh mst cylinders require 6 hurs f heating. d. Check shwer flw rate is nt t high may require flw meter. 2. System nt perfrming as well as expected a. Check nn-return valve is installed and wrking, check nt therms phning at night. (Temp at night shuld be similar t ambient) may require a secnd NRV. 3. Biling n the rf but nt heating cylinder a. Check Nn-return valve and pump are rund the right way. b. Bleed pump if making lud nise, is pump cnnected vertically? c. Check pipe length is nt mre than 15m each way with small bre pipe (t greater frictinal lsses fr the pump t handle) quick fix is a secnd pump in series. d. Check there is n high spts abve the slar (will create a steam blck) use steam vent. (AAV). e. Ensure NRV is after the pump. f. Check steam vent (AAV) is wrking. g. Check pump is n fast enugh speed. 4. System flding thrugh huse (very rare) a. This has mstly happened where heat has gt thrugh t Plyprpylene pipe and melted it. Ensure that cpper is used where this can ccur. (NB heat can travel up the cld supply pipe when the whle cylinder is HOT.) May require thermal trap n the cld supply (bare cpper pipe in a lp). b. Check that the heat dump at the TPR valve can drain away withut backing up and flding may require flw restrictr in heat dump lp. Advanced Slar Technlgies Ltd 8

9 5. Cylinder making banging nise a. Due t cylinder expansin thrugh heat. Ensure that a cld water expansin valve and a ht water TPR valve are fitted and wrking. 6. Sensr Errr. a. Check that the plastic surrunding the rf sensr has nt melted t cause a shrt). NB Only the metal sensr shuld be inserted int the prbe pcket. b. Check that the screw int the wire at the cntrl bx is screwed int the wire and nt the plastic. c. T check if a wire fault, switch with a dummy sensr. 7. Funny temperature readings a. Check the right sensr is used in the right psitin. PT1000 fr rf and NTC fr the cylinder. 8. Element nt cming up t 60C a. Check prbe cntact with cylinder and allw 8 C fr lsses. b. Check timing and temp f heating prgram. c. Check clck time, check night rate and ripple cntrl ptential cnflicts with timers. 9. Night circulatin frm cylinder t panel due t cntrller nt reaching pump ff Temp differential (DTF) a. Imprve cnnectin with T2 Prbe. b. Increase DTO and DTF by 5 degrees each. 10. 10 Peridic Maintenance T ensure crrect system peratin and t retain yur cmpnent warranty, the system must be maintained in accrdance with the recmmended levels f maintenance utlined belw. Peridic maintenance shuld cnsist f the fllwing; Every 6 Mnths Annually Wash ff dirt & debris (if required) Check drains free f bstructins Check slar panels fr shading Check thermal and pressure relief valves and pressure relief valves fr crrect peratin Check tempering valve fr crrect water temperature Check fr wrn seals arund the slar panel Check cables t thermcuple sensrs Check temperature sensr displayed temperatures Check electrical system and water bster heater Check pump and differential cntrller peratin 3 years Check system and cnnectins fr leaks Replace pressure and thermal relief valves Replace cylinder sacrificial andes Clean ut strainers WARNING: Glass tubes are fragile when remved frm Slar Panel.
