General Instructins Instructins fr Use The Operatr Qualificatins Checklist must be cmpleted within 30 calendar days f attending the class. All f the qualificatin tasks must be cmpleted. This Operatr Qualificatin packet is designed t: prvide structured n-the-jb training fr the LP-gas student under the directin f an experienced and qualified skills evaluatr, and standardize cnditins under which the student demnstrates his/her perfrmance f tasks that meet the requirements f the Railrad Cmmissin f Texas Prpane Training Prgram. Each task is divided int ne r mre peratins n which the student s perfrmance is evaluated. Each peratin is designated by the fllwing symbl:. Als, under each peratin is a perfrmance guide that establishes the standard used by the skills evaluatr. When an peratin within a task is successfully perfrmed by the student accrding t the criteria listed in the perfrmance guide, a check (4) is placed in the. After cmpleting the checklist fr thse peratins required in the student s jb duties, the skills evaluatr and student must sign their respective affidavits. Sectin IV (page 13 and page 14) is phtcpied fr the cmpany s persnnel training recrd files. Instructins t the Student This Qualifying Field Activities training packet is designed as a training guide t assist yu and yur evaluatr in perfrming the tasks listed n the frnt cver. Practice the tasks as many times as needed t becme cnfident and prficient with the equipment. Yur skills evaluatr will check and bserve yur perfrmance using the checklist included in each hands-n task assignment. The student must adhere t all safety precautins. If a safety precautin is vilated, then the demnstratin shall be stpped and an verall scre f unsatisfactry must be checked. Obtain the necessary brass pipe-t-flare and flare fittings illustrated in Figure Obtain cpper tubing and cut and straighten tw minimum length 6-inch sectins. Insert the tubing ends in the brass flare nuts and flare the ends. Inspect the flare fr prper size and shape. 4. Inspect the threaded ends fr prper number f threads and crrect thread cnditin. 5. Apply suitable pipe thread sealing cmpund t the male pipe threads f each piece. D nt apply sealing cmpund t the male flare threads that cnnect fare nuts r flare caps. 6. Assemble all cmpnents hand tight. 7. Make the final assembly tight using a pipe vise and wrenches. 8. Cnnect the water clumn manmeter t the pressure test fitting. Student Shp Assembled Piping Leakage Pressure Test EQ Task Using the assembled pipe and tubing, perfrm a leakage test as required by NFPA 1192 fr a mdified RV piping system. Zer the manmeter scale where the tw water clumns are at an equal level. 2. Pressurize the piping assembly with regulated pressure air t 11 inches water clumn pressure. 3. Apply leak detectin slutin t each piping cnnectin and t the cnnectin t the water clumn manmeter and watch fr bubbles. 4. Reduce the measured pressure t 8 inches water clumn, plus r minus ½ inch water clumn. 5. Observe the measured pressure fr the perid required by NFPA 1192 t assure the pressure des nt decrease, indicating a leak is present. 6. If the pressure falls, lk fr bubbles, and tighten the piping cnnectin(s) at that lcatin. 7. Re-pressurize and repeat the test until the system is prven t be gas tight 8. Remve the vent cver t expse the appliance burner and cntrl valve. 2. Verify the appliance is securely installed in a level and plumb cnditin. 3. Inspect the burner venting t assure cnnectins are secure and prperly ruted. Check fr accumulatin f st at the vent utlet, indicating imprper burner and/r vent cnditins. 4. Install a water clumn manmeter in the pressure test tap prvided by the manufacturer and verify the prpane vapr input pressure is as specified n the appliance rating plate r decal. 5. If the input pressure is higher r lwer than the manufacturer s specified input ratings, adjust the secnd-stage f the system pressure regulatr t the prper pressure. 6. Test fire the burner and verify that the flame is prper. 7. Shut dwn the appliance, remve the manmeter, replace the test tap plug, and use leak detectin slutin t check fr leakage. 8. Replace the vent cver. 9. Dcument the inspectin n the cmpany-designated frm. EQ Task Inspect an RV water heater and verify that it is prperly installed and perating. If the prpane piping system was repaired r mdified, perfrm a system leakage test as specified in NFPA Verify that any appliance attachments such as warm air ducts n a furnace, the P/T valve & water line cnnectins n a water heater, r thers as applicable are in place, in gd cnditin, and secured. 4. Install a water clumn manmeter in the pressure test tap prvided by the manufacturer and verify the prpane vapr input pressure is as specified n the appliance rating plate r decal. 5. If the input pressure is higher r lwer than the manufacturer s specified input ratings, adjust the secnd-stage f the system pressure regulatr t the prper pressure. 6. Test fire the burner and verify that the flame is prper. 7. Verify that the prducts f cmbustin vent prperly and as specified by the manufacturer. 8. Shut dwn the appliance, remve the manmeter, replace the test tap plug, and use leak detectin slutin t check fr leakage. 9. Install the vent cver as applicable. 10. Clse the prpane cntainer service valves(s) and install a water clumn manmeter in the pressure test tap prvided by the manufacturer at the prpane appliance furthest frm the system pressure regulatr. 2. Reduce the system pressure t atmspheric pressure by venting prpane vapr utside f the RV. Zer the manmeter scale where the tw water clumns are at an equal level. 3. Open the prpane cntainer service valve(s) and place ne prpane appliance int peratin [the burner(s) is/are firing]. 4. Read and recrd the pressure indicated n the manmeter and be sure the pressure is within the pressure input ratings specified fr the appliance. If it is nt, adjust the utput f the secnd-stage regulatr as needed. 5. Place all prpane appliances int peratin (all burners are firing). 6. Read and recrd the pressure indicated n the manmeter, verifying that the pressure is within the minimum and maximum input pressure specified fr the appliance where the manmeter is installed. 7. If the indicated pressure drps belw required input, check fr an bstructin in the piping (crimped cpper line, etc.) If n bstructin is fund, explain crrective actin(s) required t the skills evaluatr. 8. If the indicated pressure is within appliance manufacturer specificatins, shut dwn all appliances, leaving the manmeter cnnected fr the regulatr lck-up test. 9. Dcument the test n the cmpany-designated frm. EQ Task Perfrm a pressure regulatr lck-up test. The student is qualified t perfrm EQ Task at the fllwing level: Skill Evaluatr s Initials Perfrming a pressure regulatr lck-up test Perfrmance Guide: In and arund an RV the student cmpleted the fllwing steps: 1. Recrd the manmeter pressure indicated when the appliances are perating. 2. With prpane cntainer valve(s) pened, verify that all appliances are ff (n gas is flwing t appliance burners) 3. Observe the manmeter fr a minimum f 1 minute. 4. Verify that the pressure reading rises slightly abve flw pressure (when appliances are firing), then stps at a stable higher pressure. 5. If the pressure stabilizes and des nt creep upward, recrd the manmeter lck-up pressure. 6. Explain t the skill evaluatr the required actin if the lck-up pressure exceeds flw pressure by mre than 30%, r if the pressure des nt stabilize (cntinues t increase r creep up). 7. If the indicated lck-up pressure is prper, r crrectin actin is taken and the subsequent flw pressure and lck-up tests are satisfactry, remve the manmeter, replace the test tap plug, and use leak detectin slutin t check fr leakage. 8.
