In order to protect our docks and your neighbor s boat, you need to have a spring line on your boat. It is a rule, that if not followed is a twenty-five dollar fine. I counted twenty-four boats that have ignored that rule. We are going to go out and buy some line and attach spring lines to these boats and send them a bill for the fine and the cost of the line. Just to let you know I hate being the yacht club cop so help me and do what you re supposed to do to keep our club save and running well. The meat raffle is going to be at a later date and I would like to know if there is an interest in this before we spend our time and energy into something that won t go over well. The annual junk sale will be held October 3 rd so bring your junk down and enjoy yourself for the afternoon. I m also disappointed in the apathy of the membership for not attending the meetings and functions we run for the club. Although the clam bake was a hugh success, as always, thanks to Hoss and his wife Cheryl (who doesn t want anyone to know her name) and all the members that helped. We appointed the nominating committee because not enough members showed up for the meeting to elect them. Remember this is your club not a cheap marina. The bills for next year have gone out and must be paid by November 30 th or you will be ejected from the club. If you choose to come back it will be with the loss of seniority, float, and locker. You will be starting over from day one. If you are interested in getting on a committee, let Byran Hersey know he s chairman of the nominating committee. The election will be December 6 th. The marina is closed December 1 st unless you have arranged and paid for winter storage. You must call Al Chouinard to arrange to keep your boat here for the winter by the October meeting. We are going to review the log for last winter and those that didn t comply with the rules for winter storage will not be allowed to keep their boat here this winter. Again I hate being the cop but it needs to be done to protect the investment we all have in this club. So as always please be careful coming and going from the club.
2 page 2 Dorchester Yacht Club - Board of Directors September 3, 2015 Officers present: Paul Polito, Greg Bedrosian, Steve Cavanaugh, Brian Taylor, Marty Cahill Directors present: Bob Mirabito, Ray Tomasini, Packy McDonough Chairmen present: Bob Bailey, David Greenwood, Al Chouinard absent: Jack Donegan Meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m. Treasurer: Marty handed out the treasurer s report for August. The account balances are: Money Market (Capital Improvement): $75, Dredging Fee: $206, General Fund: $71, Marty handed out a list of members who owe money. We went over the few that had more than $ owed ($300 being dredging and assessment [due 9/1/15]). Marty said when he says the 2016 bills he can add any past due amounts to that bill. Steve said he could send a letter to those members who owe $500 or more that they must pay up or come to the next BOD meeting. Correspondence: Don Lyons has requested a leave of absence. Jack Hannon sent a bill for laying out the plan for the deck. Letter from town of Hull saying we need a mooring permit for anyone with a mooring in town waters (this is regarding the mooring off Peddock s Island). Ray said we should ask Kathy Tyrell to speak with the people in Hull, as she knows them via her work. The mooring, however, is now missing. Marty paid the company to look for the mooring and the mushroom is gone. House: The outside stairway is completed. David suggested that Colin get all permit applications first, before Marty pays any bills. Colin would be sure any inspections, etc. are taken care of and then give it to Marty for a check when all else was ready. Inboard Floats/Moorings: Marina is full, we have 3 on moorings. One mooring is left. At the next meeting, Al is going to bring up a problem with winter storage. Al thinks we should consider doing away with winter storage because it is hard to place the bubblers properly. This past year the lowest tides of the year were in January and February. If the bubblers are running and come out of the water, they will burn out, so we need to place them in the deepest water. Ray asked about detaching the floats and tying them up along the docks; Al said this requires an enormous amount of work. Al pointed out that we cannot put out a bubbler for every piling, because we don t have enough electricity. We had a problem with insufficient electricity on the outboard floats, but that has been remedied. But we still need more juice on the inboard side, and we need more bubblers (and new ones). Al explained his plans in the past to help keep out the ice that comes from the bay from the East; he thinks that if he could anchor a spare float outside of the perimeter he could put bubblers off of that and that would keep the ice coming from the East which is the moving ice, which is what does the damage. Al also mentioned that last year we had boats suspended on the ice, and that the force required for that is tremendous, and there is a risk of cracked hulls. Ray suggested Al give a list of obstacles to protecting the floats to Stephen who can send a summary to the board via . Outboard Floats: We re OK, and Bob expects that we ll have most of the boats gone in October. Regatta: Junk Sale October 3 rd. Meat Raffle will be the first Patriot s Game (1:00 PM September 27 th ). Permits: None. Old Business: Marty asked if bonuses for the treasurer, secretary and commodore be approved. This was moved and approved by the BOD. New Business: Ray asked if we could get a banner made to put on the side of the house Good Luck Jimmy Hayes (new local traded to the Bruins). He said it would be good neighbors. The meeting was adjourned at 7:42 p.m. General Membership Meeting of the Dorchester Yacht Club September 10, 2015 Officers present: Paul Polito, Brian Taylor, Marty Cahill, Steve Cavanaugh Directors present: Jack Donegan, Ray Tomasini Chairmen present: Al Chouinard Absent: Greg Bedrosian, Dave Greenwood, Packy McDonough, Bob Mirabito, Bob Bailey
3 page 3 Paul Polito called the meeting to order at: 7:30 p.m. Minutes: Steve read the minutes from the August meeting and the August Board meeting, which were approved. Treasurer s Report: Marty read the treasurer s report for August. The final account balances are: Money Market (Capital Improvement): $75, Dredging Fee: $206, General Fund: $71, Correspondence: We received a nice letter from Jack Hannon, and a nasty letter from the Hull Harbormaster about the mooring. The tackle has gone missing for this mooring, either impounded by the Harbormaster, or dragged by a barge that tied up to it. We will likely not renew the mooring permit for Peddocks. House Committee: None. Inboard Float Committee/Moorings: Al will haul the moorings when the boats on them are gone so they can be inspected and if need, repaired. Outboard Float Committee: None. Regatta Committee: None. Permitting Officer: None. Safety Officer: None. MBYCA: Next meeting will be at Foxhill YC in Saugus. Unfinished Business: Paul emphasized that the carts are not to be left on the dock. Use them to load your boat then bring them back up. The watches have started back up, make sure to do them or you will get a $ fine. Boats should have spring lines; with the weather getting worse, we will enforce the rule and fines will be assessed to anyone not in compliance. New Business: Tonight is the night to elect the nominating committee. Nominees for the position were: Bryan Hersey Tim Berardinelli John Vespaziani Neil O Donnell Paul McCarty. The nominees were appointed to the committee, with Bryan Hersey as chair. Jack Donegan brought up two items for future discussion. First, the rules currently state that the gas price should be 25 above the price paid for fuel, but that is not currently being done. Two, he suggested we explore a bylaw change so that children of members who become associate members and then become members, but take a student leave of absence, should not have seniority stopped or lost during the student leave. Meeting was adjourned at 7:52 p.m. September 25, 2015 Fox Hill Yacht Club 114 Ballard Street, Saugus, MA Refreshments - 7:30pm Meeting - 8:00pm *2016 Slate of Officers announced 100% Booster Plaques distributed October 23, 2015 meeting at Savin Hill YC November 20, 2015 meeting at Winter Hill YC No meeting in December Membership DYC Members are eligible for a discounted membership in Boat Owners Of The US (BoatUS). 7 DELINQUENT CLUB FEES REMINDER page 7 Annual Harbor Cruise for Dorchester Youth There were two bills due to the club suring the summer. The annual dredging fee for 2015 was $200.00, and was due on July 1, There is a $25.00 per month fine for each month until it is paid, so if you missed the date and still owe it, you now owe $ The body also approved a $ assessment which was due on September 1st. Bills for dues, lockers and assigned slips have already gone out. All bills MUST be paid by November 30th. If you have not paid your dues, you forfeit your membership, and with it any assigned slips and locker and your seniority. This is how the by-laws are written and we must all comply. If you have a financial difficulty, come to a Board of Directors meeting in September, October or November. Don t wait until December...it will be too late! If you owe other money, such as missed watch fines or assessments or dredging funds, those bills will be taken out of any check you send first, and the balance applied to your dues. So be sure you pay in full. If you have a question about your bill when you receive it, call the treasurer Marty Cahill at On July 29th, the Dorchester Yacht Club sponsored 60 youngsters along with their chaperones from the Dorchester Boy's and Girl's Club to a day on the water. More than a dozen boaters volunteered their vessels and crew to show these kids the ocean. Although they all live within 5 miles of the sea, rarely do they get to enjoy it. After the cruise, we had many volunteers help cook up burgers and dogs. Member Tory Lando, who owns TC Lando's Subs and Pizza donated some delicious sandwiches and Boston Ice Cream on Morrissey Boulevard donated 8 gallons of homemade ice cream. The DYC also invited the Richards family along for the ride and they also had a great time. We gave the Martin Richards Foundation the funds that were raised from May's golf tournament. They were very appreciative and thanked us profusely. To all of you who gave their time, the DYC thanks you. To those who missed it, keep an eye out for next year s event. We have done this for about 4 years now and to see the enjoyment the kids have makes it all worth while. DYC Board of Directors
