The Utes carry a overall record into their homestand after going 2-3 last week at the Chevron Spring Fling in Honolulu, Hawaii. Links to both can be found on utahutes.com. Chevron Spring Fling Review: Utah compiled a 2-3 record last week at the Chevron Spring Fling, and left Honolulu with a two-game win streak. Memphis Recap: The Utes outhit Memphis 8-5, but unfortunately committed three errors in a 5-1 loss, while Memphis did not have a single error in the field. Whitney Holm (Spanish Fork, Utah) drove in Utah s run, while junior center fielder Kara Foster (Derby, Kan.) and senior right fielder Angie Boardman (Spokane, Wash.) both came up with multiple-hit-efforts by going 2-for-3 at the plate. Hawaii Recap: Brittany Parker (Murray, Utah) got the start and pitched 3.2 innings, allowing only one earned run on one hit, while striking out five and walking six in the Utes 1-0 loss. Lindsey Palmer (Stansbury Park, Utah) pitched the final 2.1 innings, striking out two with one walk. The teams came up with one hit apiece. Boardman hit a single up the middle of the Hawaii defense in the third inning. Hawaii scored the only run of the game in the fourth. Radford Recap: Utah got four hits as a team in a 5-0 loss to Radford, two each from Foster and Staci Hemingway (West Valley, Utah). Foster hit a double in the first inning, then came up with a single in the sixth. Hemingway hit a single up the middle in the fourth inning, then came up with another base hit in the sixth frame. Ashley Smuda (Scottsdale, Ariz.) threw her fourth complete game of the season, going seven innings and allowing four earned runs on eight hits after facing 33 Wednesday Boise St. (DH) Games Utah (12-18) vs. Boise State (12-8) March 18, 2009 Salt Lake City, Utah Ute Softball Field Utes Schedule vs. 2 p.m. MT batters on the day. Radford got on the board first when Sarah Himan plated an unearned run in the fourth inning. St. John s Recap: Hemingway drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Utes claimed a 2-1 win over the Red Storm. Utah was tied with St. John s 1-1 heading into the sixth inning when sophomore Brooke Olson (Bluffdale, Utah) recorded a swinging strikeout, but reached base after a passed ball. Wisconsin Recap: Foster slammed a two-run home run over the center-field fence in the sixth inning to give Utah a 2-1 victory over Wisconsin in the second game of the day. Parker got the start and pitched 4.1 innings and did not allow an earned run on four hits while striking out one. Smuda took the mound for the final 2.2 innings to take her eighth win of the season. Smuda improved her record to 8-6 this season with a 3.96 ERA. No. 9/11 California Recap: Utah s game with No. 9/11 California was cancelled due to inclement weather. Palmer Strikes Out 11 against St. John s: Palmer struck out 11 Red Storm hitters in only five innings during Friday s 2-1 win over St. John s. Palmer only allowed one earned run on six hits in a no-decision performance. Five of the first six outs Palmer recorded were strikeouts.

Foster Climbs Utah s All-Time Home Run Chart: Foster led the Utah offense with a tworun game-winning home run in a 2-1 victory over Wisconsin on Friday. She leads the Utes with 12 round-trippers and 23 RBI this season. Foster is now Ute Notes just three home runs away from passing Melissa Stahnke ( ) for the school record. Foster has hit 47 home runs in her career. Foster hit two home runs on Mar. 7 against Stephen F. Austin and then-no. 17 Texas A&M, one each against both Stephen F. Austin and No. 17 Texas A&M. As of last week, Foster led the Mountain West Conference in runs, home runs, ranked second in slugging percentage, and was third in RBI, and seventh in hits. Utah s Career Home Run Leaders: 1. GAMES 31-32: Boise State Coaching Staff Amy Hogue Head Coach Second Season Amy Hogue begins her second season as the head coach of the University of Utah softball team and is looking to build on the foundation established during her first season. Hogue looks to lead the Utes return to a prominent position in the Mountain West Conference and on the national stage. Hogue was hired as the program s fifth head coach in the summer of 2007 and went in her first season with a mark in conference play. Hogue has a (.651) career record in her seventh season as a head coach. Last season, Hogue led the Utes to a 4.5- game improvement in the conference after a 5-14 MWC record and a last-place finish in Utah climbed all the way to third place in the MWC standings and won three more games overall in Hogue cultivated success for the Utes on an individual level as well with outfielder Diana Phillips, first baseman Kara Foster and pitcher Ashley Smuda named to the 20-member Mountain West All-Conference team in Hogue s first season. Hogue was an integral part of the Utah softball program even before being hired as its head coach, playing for the Utes from and earning second-team All-America honors as a senior. During her All-American season, Hogue hit.455, had 101 hits, 222 at bats and 55 runs scored. All of those numbers still stand as the school s top marks for a single season. Hogue also holds season records for triples (7) and runs scored (55). Hogue helped the Utes win two conference titles, two conference tournaments and two regional titles in making a pair of Women s College World Series appearances in 1991 and She captained the 1994 squad that tallied a school-record 51 wins. In addition to the team s success, Hogue was the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, first team all-region and second team All-America in She was also a three-time All-WAC player and was the team MVP in Hogue s name appears throughout the career record book at Utah. She still ranks third in at bats (703) and stolen bases (71), fifth in hits (239), and sixth in hitting (.340).Her 101 hits in a season was one of the longest-standing marks in the NCAA, and she still holds the NCAA record for at-bats in a game (14). Hogue built and mentored Salt Lake Community College s softball team from , instantly creating a successful program. She went (.706) in her time with the Bruins. The pinnacle of her tenure with the Bruins came in 2004, when SLCC won the regional championship and placed sixth in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament. Hogue got her start in coaching as Utah s graduate assistant coach from Since 1995, Hogue has coached an accelerated travel team. Currently called The Sting, she has guided her club to a.725 winning percentage. In the last two seasons, The Sting has racked up 137 wins. The Utah standout briefly played professional softball. After college, she toured with the WPF Storm and was later drafted and signed to play with the Durham Dragons. She graduated from Utah in 1994 with a sociology degree and earned a Master s degree from Utah in social work in The Sandy, Utah, native is married to Sean Hogue and has three children, Brennan (8), Kai (6) and Tessa (3).
