Last night s extra-inning game was just the fifth on the season for the Knights and they improved to 4-1 in those games this season. It was also their third walk-off win of the season. They will conclude their series tonight with the finale against Louisville. On Friday, the Indianapolis Indians will come to town for a three-game series. The Knights are at home this season. ABOUT LAST KNIGHT: Outfielder Jacob May raced home from third base on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 13th inning to lead the Charlotte Knights to a 4-3 walk-off win over the Louisville Bats on Wednesday from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte. The win for the Knights evened up the series at one game apiece. The walk-off win was Charlotte s 21st in BB&T Ballpark history (2014-present). ROSTER MOVES: Before today s game, the Knights announced three roster moves. First, RHP Juan Minaya was optioned to Charlotte from Chicago after the White Sox game last night. Minaya will not be active for the game tonight and his report is currently TBD. Additionally, outfielder Adam Engel was activated off the Temporary Inactive List today and will start in tonight s game. To make room on Charlotte s active roster, infielder Jose Vinicio was assigned to Double-A Birmingham. MLB S TOP PROSPECT: Second baseman Yoan Moncada reached base four times last night and is hitting.275 (57-for-207) over 53 games with the Charlotte Knights. He is currently leading all IL 2B in Triple- A All-Star voting at his position. Ranked as the number one prospect in Major League Baseball by MLB. com and Baseball America, Moncada has a total of 38 runs scored, seven doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 19 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases this season. Earlier this season (May 1), the Chicago White Sox named Moncada as their Minor League Player of the Month for the month of April. During the first month of the season, the 21-year-old hit.314 (27-for-86) with 16 runs scored, four home runs, seven RBIs, and six stolen bases in 21 games for the Knights. He also earned International League Batter of the Week honors on May 8 after hitting.500 (11-for-22) with eight runs scored, two home runs, and four RBIs from May 1-7. REHABBING: LHP Carlos Rodon (0-1, 9.82) continued his rehab and started for the Knights on Sunday against the G-Braves. He allowed four runs on five hits over 3.2 innings and was saddled with the loss. It was his second overall rehab start this season. He also allowed five runs (all earned) on four hits over 3.1 innings pitched in game one of a doubleheader on June 6 with Winston-Salem and was saddled with the loss. Rodon was originally selected by the White Sox in the first round (third overall) of the 2014 amateur draft out of N.C. State University. He made three appearances with the Knights in 2014 and went 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA (12.0 IP). He began the 2015 season with the Knights and posted a 1-0 record with a 3.60 ERA in two starts (10.0 IP) before being promoted to the White Sox on April 20, He made his Major League debut the next day (April 21) against the Cleveland Indians. Rodon made one rehab appearance with the Knights last season and gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits over 3.2 innings pitched. He s scheduled to start Saturday s game against Indianapolis. IL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: The Knights have had three players this season honored by the International League with weekly awards. Most recently, RHP Lucas Giolito was named as the International League s Pitcher of the Week for the period of May He became the third Knights player to earn the award this season. So far this season, the Knights are the only team in the IL to earn three weekly awards. OF Willy Garcia (April 6-9) and 2B Yoan Moncada (May 1-7) have also claimed International League weekly honors this year. KNIGHTS STARTING PITCHER: RHP Carson Fulmer (6-3, 4.26) will get the nod in tonight s finale. He earned the win on Friday after he was impressive in his second start of the season against Gwinnett. He improved to 2-0 against them and he gave up just four hits and one walk over five scoreless innings. The Vanderbilt University product notched his sixth overall win of the season. He is tied for the International League lead with eight others. Fulmer entered the season ranked by Baseball America as the seventh-best prospect in Chicago s system. 2 KNOTEWORTHY LOUISVILLE S STARTING PITCHER: RHP Robert Stephenson (1-0, 0.00) will make his third start of the season with the Bats tonight. Stephenson entered the 2017 season ranked as the fourth best prospect in Cincinnati s organization by Baseball America. He started this season with the Reds and posted an 0-2 record with an 8.03 ERA in 13 games before being optioned down to Louisville on May 30. ALL-TIME KNIGHT: OF Jason Bourgeois, 35, went 3-for-5 last night with an RBI and a run scored. He ranks among the all-time franchise leaders in a number of categories. On Sunday, April 9, Bourgeois passed Yolmer Sanchez (347) for third place on Charlotte s all-time hits list. He is just one of five players in franchise history with 300 or more hits (Jordan Danks, 449, Joe Borchard, 439, Bourgeois, Sanchez, and Josh Phegley, 312). He recorded his 350th career Knights hit on Friday, April 14 and now has a total of 378 career his in his Knights career. Bourgeois is also among the leaders in a number of other categories, including he is now third all-time in at-bats (1,313), fifth in games played (337), tied for third in triples (10), fourth in runs scored (180), and second in stolen bases (68). A native of Houston, TX, Bourgeois rejoined the Knights last season after playing for the team in 2007 and In 2013, he was named to the All Knights Stadium Team. GRAND SLAM HAYES: 1B Danny Hayes launched his International League leading third grand slam of the season in game one of the March 31st doubleheader. He has a team-high 12 home runs and 42 RBIs on the season. Hayes launched his second grand slam of the season on May 27 and added a solo home run the next day. He swatted his first grand slam of the season on April 8th at BB&T Ballpark and now has four grand slams with the Knights since 2016 (launched a grand slam last year on April 22, 2016 at BB&T Ballpark). His eight home runs in May were tied for the second most in the IL and his 28 RBIs were also second best in the IL in May. LOOKING AHEAD: RHP Lucas Giolito (2-6, 4.86) will get the start for the Knights in tomorrow s opener against the Indianapolis Indians. He last started Saturday s game and was saddled with the loss despite a quality start. Giolito pitched into the seventh inning and allowed three runs on six hits over 6.2 innings pitched. It was his first outing since his double-digit strikeouts performance on Monday, June 5. His 11 strikeouts in the opener against the Durham Bulls on Monday were his second highest total in a game in his career. He has reached double digits in strikeouts six times in his career. Last season with Syracuse, Giolito struck-out a career-best 12 batters on June 10, 2016 against Akron. Giolito, along with Knights teammate Reynaldo Lopez, were acquired from the Washington Nationals at the Winter Meetings in exchange for Adam Eaton. He entered the 2017 ranked as Chicago s number two prospect by Baseball America. Giolito was a first round pick (16th overall) of the Nats in the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft. KNIGHTS NO-HITTERS: RHP Lucas Giolito s seven-inning no-hitter in game one of the doubleheader on May 25 was the first in BB&T Ballpark history and the first in Charlotte Knights franchise history since July 25, 2013 when RHP Andre Rienzo threw a seven-inning nohitter in game one of a doubleheader against the Indianapolis Indians from Knights Stadium in Fort Mill. Before that, Carlos Torres threw a five-inning perfect game on June 18, 2009 in Pawtucket and Tetsu Yofu tossed a nine-inning no-hitter on August 1, 2004 for the Knights. ATTENDANCE LEADERS: The Knights lead all of Minor League Baseball in average attendance (8,819) and have an overall attendance of 255,764 in 29 openings. On Friday, May 26, the Knights welcomed 10,526 fans through the gates their second-highest total of the season and eighth overall sell-out crowd. The team welcomed back-to-back sell-outs crowds on Saturday and Sunday and have welcomed 10 sell-outs this season (three-straight). The Knights welcomed their largest crowd of the season 10,534 fans on Sunday, May 7. The Knights have welcomed 97 regular season sell-out crowds in the history of BB&T Ballpark (opened April 11, 2014).
