1 OTTAWA LYNX (2-5) Philadelphia Phillies MEDIA NOTES April 17, Lynx Stadium, Ottawa, ON RILEY DENVER, DIRECTOR, MEDIA & PUBLIC RELATIONS JODY KINGSBURY, MEDIA RELATIONS ASSISTANT MEDIA RELATIONS PHONE: (613) (EXT. 235) MEDIA RELATIONS Game 8 of 144 Home Game 1 of 72 Game 1 of an 6-game homestand Game 1 of a 4-game series CHARLOTTE KNIGHTS (5-5) Chicago White Sox AGAINST THE KNIGHTS: Tonight s game will be the 142nd game in the history between the two clubs. The Lynx lead the all-time series, with a record of in the 141 games played between the two teams in the series history. The Knights won the season series in 2006, taking the first five games before the Lynx came back and won the last three. All three Lynx wins against Charlotte last season were in the friendly confines of Lynx Stadium. The Knights were the first team the Lynx ever played, exactly 14 years ago tonight. On that first home opener, the Knights took the win, 4-3, in front of a capacity crowd in Ottawa. SYRACUSE IS SPLITSVILLE: With a terrible winter storm bearing down on Syracuse, the Lynx and Chiefs squeezed in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon before postponing planned games for Sunday and Monday in Syracuse. GAME 1: Ty Taubenheim worked six scoreless innings to lead the Chiefs to a 4-0 win over Ottawa in the first game of Saturday's Opening Day doubleheader. Mike Vento and John-Ford Griffin each connected on a two-run homer for Syracuse. The Lynx wasted a solid performance from starter Zach Segovia, who was activated from the Temporarily Inactive list prior to the game. Segovia pitched a complete game, 7.0 innings, but his teammates couldn't get on the board to give him his first Triple-A win. GAME 2: The Lynx got off to a hot start, scoring two runs in the top of the first innings. Chris Coste doubled home Chris Roberson and Joe Thurston. Roberson drove home Brennan King in the 4th and Danny Sandoval doubled home Jason Jaramillo for what would prove to be the winning run. Matt Childers recovered nicely after a rough first start in Buffalo. He held Syracuse to one run over 5.0 innings. Brian Sanches came in for the 7th inning to nail down his first save of the season. 15 SEASONS OF FUN IN THE CAPITAL! The 2007 season will be the 15th in club history. Over the first 14 seasons, the club has brought home 946 wins and absorbed 1,050 losses (.474 winning percentage). The club will be counting down to that 54th win in 2007, which will mark 1,000 in Lynx history. On the topic of milestones, the team's 4th game this season (April 11th at Buffalo) was the 2,000th game in Lynx history. LYNX LURKING ON LEAGUE LEADERBOARD: Lou Collier goes into today s game with the 8th-highest batting average in the International League (.379) and he s tied for 7th in the league with 3 doubles. Teammate Gary Burnham is 6th in the league s On-base Percentage race (Burnham.500). Chris Roberson s team-leading 7 RBI put him in a tie for 11th. Zach Segovia is one of only two IL pitchers who have thrown a complete game this season. Segovia turned the trick in the first game of the Lynx doubleheader Saturday in Syracuse (6.0 IP). NEW A-PHILLY-ATION: 2007 marks the first of a two-year Player Development Contract. With this, the Lynx inherit the defending IL North Division Champs. Since 2000, the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate in Scranton Wilkes-Barre has averaged 78.2 wins per season, compared to 69.9 wins per season in Ottawa-a difference of more than eight more wins per season. This also marks the return of National League baseball to Lynx Stadium, meaning pitchers will hit when the Lynx face fellow NL affiliates Indianapolis (April 27-30), Lousiville (May 1-4), Richmond (June 1-4) and Columbus (June 14-17). MAN OH MANAGER! The Lynx new Manager, John Russell, is the defending International League Manager of the Year. He and his coaching staff of Sal Rende and Rod Nichols led Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to an record and an IL North Division Championship. Russell has managed in Canada before, having led the Edmonton Trappers to a Pacific Coast League title in 2002, the year he won Minor League Manager of the Year. STARTING TONIGHT: Lefty J.A. Happ takes the mound tonight. He was masterful in his Lynx debuit April 10th in Buffalo, keeping the Bisons hitless over 5.0 innings. Happ is the 8th-best prospect in the Phillies system and went to his first Major League Spring Training this Spring. Last season, he went a combined 10-9 with a 2.69 ERA and 162 strikeouts over three levels of the Minor Leagues. SCHEDULE AND PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS Tuesday vs Charlotte, 6:05 pm LHP J.A.
