MES students participated in the annual Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser during the month of February. During their PE classes the students jumped rope to raise money for the American Heart Association. The MHS Student Council sponsored a fundraiser benefitting Leukemia & Lymphoma Research. 4 Family Fun MPS McGregor Primary hosted a Family Fun Night Block Party to celebrate the writing of Dr. Seuss on March 2. Those in attendance enjoyed playing Seuss themed games and making Seuss themed crafts.
Celebrating MES March 2 was Dr. Suess birthday and Read Across America Day. McGregor Elementary celebrated the wackiness of the good doctor with their own Wacky Wednesday. Students and teachers dressed wacky and participated in DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time during the school day
#Promoting Reading Students at McGregor Elementary were treated to a visit by local author Marsha Thauwald. Ms. Thauwald wrote Big Southern Hair and Highlights: Please Don t Dye Without Us a fictional story about twins Cora Jean Trinity and Cara Louise Tune who were separated at birth. The story tells of the people they meet, the places they visit, and their experiences growing up in the south. Ms. Thauwald entertained the students with a book talk and skit about the story. She also taught the students how to write and present their own book talks. The visit sparked a new interest in reading among the students who are excited to start presenting their own book talks. The first grade students at McGregor Primary enjoyed reading Noelle the Bulldog as part of Read Across America Day. Mrs. Adcock read the book to the students. The class wants to thank former Fairfield ISD superintendent Tony Price who donated the book to the school. Learning sight words is an vital skill as students learn to read. These primary students could read all of their sight words for the fourth six-weeks. This is the largest group of students scoring 100 on their sight words test this year!
How Does Your Garden Grow? The Primary garden is growing again! Students planted potatoes and spinach in the planters located on the playground. Several classes started seeds for squash and zucchini. Those plants will be transplanted later in the season. The first grade classes have plans to grow tomatoes and peppers as well. They plan to make salsa with their harvest.
2nd Grade Celebrates Old West MES second grade students entertained their families and friends with a Western themed program on February 29. Students sang and danced their way through some classic cowboy music.
