1 Joanne Kokalj President July - August 2012 Rockin' Times Hotline * cwcjc@jitterbugchicago.com * Website: At our last meeting the subject of jeans was discussed and here is the outcome of that discussion. Please try to understand that this policy has been in place long before any of us were even on the board and we have had discussions about this policy in the past. While I know that some people will be disappointed that we have not changed it, others will be glad. The board has chosen to keep the no jeans/no shorts dress code for the club. The policy is: No jeans of any color, no shorts of any color will be allowed at the dances, unless specifically noted beforehand. First violation will result in a warning; second violation will result in removal from the event. In the past we have given a warning to non-members, that is why you may have seen someone at the dance with jeans. We felt it was un-fair to turn them away because if it is their first time they may not realize we have a dress code. At this point in time we feel that all of our members are fully aware of the policy since it has been in effect for many years. It is not our goal to make life difficult for you at the dance by pointing out to you that you have jeans on, but this is the policy of the club and the board and our security team will be enforcing this policy, so please do not take out your frustration on them. Also, just a reminder, the legion hall has a no food, no drink policy. Please do not bring in water bottles, coffee, chips, birthday cakes, cupcakes etc. Yes, mints or candy on the table is acceptable. Keep in mind the prices at the bar in the legion hall are very reasonable compared to those of a restaurant or lounge. While we understand that many don t drink we encourage you to buy your water or soda at the bar rather then digging it out of your shoe bag. Remember they are here to make money and if the bar isn t doing any business they will make up that money by raising the hall rental. If the club gets raised then sooner or later we need to pass that on down to the members. Our annual picnic is coming up on July 29th at Pottawatomie park. Sign up with our Social Director, Linda Nelligan. See the flyer inside of the newsletter. If you were with us last year then you know we had a new caterer, BBQ on Wheels. The food was very good and we will be having them again this year. Bill is ready to play his best picnic music, so come on out and join us this year. Our annual open board meeting will be held on Saturday, August 4th, from 7pm to 8pm, at the legion hall. This is your opportunity to express your opinions, complaints or just ask questions, and of course we also like to hear if you are happy with things. As you know we cannot please everyone, but we do pay attention to what you say to us and take all of that into consideration at the meetings when we are making decisions. On Saturday, August 18th, Mike Hartman will be at the club for oldies night. Don t miss out on this, it s always a fun dance and of course we get to hear all of that great music from the 50s and 60s. Watch for our next newsletter at the end of August which will have a recap of our dance convention, which we are now all recovering from. Also in the next newsletter our fall dance lesson schedule. Enjoy summer, because as you know it goes by all to fast. See you at the dance, Joanne
