Please show consideration for others and call before 9pm. The activities on this program are peer based. Peers have equal rights and responsibilities but not necessarily equal skills and experience. Each participant in a peer based activity, including visitors, has the primary responsibility for their own well-being in each activity in which they participate. In addition all participants share responsibility (or must be prepared to) for the good and orderly conduct and safety of any club activity in which they participate. This extends to helping others in an emergency. JUNE 2015 SAT 6 CYCLE RIDE: MYSTERY RIDE NO HELMET NO GO! This will be a leisurely ride somewhere around Sydney. Unsure at this stage where we are going but will know before the day. Bring helmet, spare tube, pump, sunscreen, repair kit, water, lunch and of course a roadworthy bike in good working order. SUN 7 PARRAMATTA HISTORIC WALK In this walk we will check out many of the historic National Trust listed buildings around Parramatta, including Elizabeth Farm, Hambledon Cottage, Experiment Farm Cottage, Old Government House and others within the University of Western Sydney grounds. The approximately 10 km walk will also take in the pleasant riverside walkways now developed in the area. Grade: 1 Map: Street Directory SAT 13 ABSEIL TRIP(S) DEVILS HOLE AREA NO HELMET NO GO! There are many short abseil trips in this area, so we will have a variety of things we could end up doing. We ll explore Whore s Bed (a small, dry canyon) and will find some other abseils too. There are a number of spectacular abseils we can choose from. Final trip details will be decided nearer to the day, but one thing is certain it will be fun! SUN 14 CYCLE RIDE: FOUR CANALS & A GREENWAY NO HELMET NO GO! Approximately 40kms, start and finish at Wolli Creek railway station. Enjoy water views, riverside pathways, inner-city haunts & joints. Must be confident riding on the road. Mostly cycle paths, with some road riding. Bring water. Morning tea along the way. Lunch stop at Newtown. Please make sure you contact the coordinator at least 48 hours before the programmed event date prior to joining any walk or social event. Please show consideration for others and call before 9pm. 1

2 JUNE 2015 SUN 14 MON 15 PADDY PALLIN ROGAINE This cross country navigation event in a bushland setting is an excellent introduction to navigation skills. Two hours South of Sydney this year, but exact location only revealed closer to the date. Maps will be supplied on the day. Entry fees apply. Organise your own team or, for a beginner (walking) team entry, with distance and difficulty being whatever we decide on the day come to the 11 May club meeting. If you plan to organise your own team make sure you register early as this is a very popular event. For more information or to register visit CLUB NIGHT - AT THE CLUB ROOMS Club nights are held at the GEORGES HALL COMMUNITY CENTRE, 188 Birdwood Road Georges Hall. Meetings are a chance to chat, socialise, and meet activity coordinators and other members. You may also find out about other activities that members have arranged that didn t make it onto the program. New members are especially welcome to join us. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE pm. An eclectic mix of slideshow pictures of travels through Victoria, NSW and southern Queensland during January this year. SAT 20 ABSEIL PRACTICE DAY NO HELMET NO GO! Club members will be meeting at Alfords Point at 9am and practicing their abseil skills. We have a limit of 6 beginners, so if you are abseiling with the club for the first time or if you don't own your own gear you will need to book in. There is no limit on experienced abseilers with their own gear. If you don t know where the meeting place is or need to book in the abseil committee at bbcabseil@gmail.com. SAT 20 WINTER MAGIC FESTIVAL KATOOMBA Annual parade and festival events at Katoomba. Come along and enjoy the atmosphere. Public transport is a good option. The train trip through the Blue Mountains is an added bonus. Also think about visiting the new Cultural Centre, Art Gallery and Blue Mountains Heritage & Environment exhibition. SUN 21 DEER POOL - WATTAMOLLA & RETURN A lovely walk in the Royal National Park with a visit to Wattamolla and munchies at Deer Pool. 10km return. We might be lucky and see whales! 3 JUNE 2015 SAT 27 MIRRORBALL ABSEIL TRIP NO HELMET NO GO! Three large exposed pitches of 50m or more as we descend into the Grose Valley, returning via the Pierces Pass track. Experienced abseilers only. Numbers are limited. Prior to being allowed to do this trip a member must be able to satisfy a member of the abseil committee that they have the skills to complete the trip safely. Map: Mt Wilson SUN 28 SPIT TO MANLY WALK & DINNER Enjoy beautiful harbour views on this 9km afternoon walk. We ll be walking at a good pace and will take around 3 hours to complete the walk. We will be catching the bus to the start of the walk. After the walk we ll enjoy dinner in Manly then catch a ferry back to the city. Map: Street Directory SUN 28 CYCLE RIDE: INNER WEST EXPLORER NO HELMET NO GO! Spend a morning exploring the back streets and cycleways of the Inner West. This ride is mostly flat and around 30km long. There will be coffee in Leichhardt and we will have lunch at the Addison Rd Markets. Numbers will be limited. Some experience riding in traffic is necessary. JULY 2015 SAT 4 NARRABEEN LAGOON CIRCUIT As the final section of the Narrabeen Lagoon circuit is now finally completed maybe we should go and try it out. It is an 8 ½ km easy loop walk around the lagoon on well-formed tracks plus we will have a side trip to the beach on the way around. To finish we could add a steep bush climb to a scenic lookout for whoever wishes to, which would add another 2kms or so. Map: Mona Vale SAT 4 & SUN NAV SHIELD ROGAINE The Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad is once again hosting the Nav Shield. The event is always run in the wilderness approx 2 hours drive from Sydney - for further info go to: 1 or 2 day event to choose from. Fees and deadlines apply. 4 JULY 2015 SUN 5 SAT 11 SAT 11 CHARLES DARWIN, NATIONAL PASS AND NATURE TRACK WALK Starting on Charles Darwin walk to Weeping Rock where you soon come to Queen's Cascades and the wonderful views into the valley. Descend partway down the cliff on the Grand Stairway to historic National Pass and exiting via the Valley of the Waters. Before following the Nature Track back towards the station there is an optional side trip to Conservation Hut. A total of 8.6km. Grade: 3 DR DARKS CAVE AND FORTRESS RIDGE A walk out along Fortress Ridge with awesome views out over Govetts Creek and a visit to Dr Darks cave where Dr Dark and his family camped in the 1930's and 40's. CYCLE RIDE: CYCLE CRONULLA TO FOX STUDIOS NO HELMET NO GO! Ride from Cronulla to Fox Studios and return, approx 65 Kms. Combination of cycle paths and road riding. Must be confident riding on the road. Bring water and morning tea and/or lunch. Lunch at Fox Studios. SUN 12 BUNDEENA - MARLEY HEAD - WEDDING CAKE ROCK - THE BALCONIES - JIBBON The old Royal map and Google Earth shows a track from Bundeena to half way along the Marley Track. I walked it once many years ago but it must still be there? Let's go find out! Once we reach Marley Head we'll follow the coast to Jibbon passing Wedding Cake Rock and The Balconies. Hopefully we'll see whales along the way. A nice solid walk. 5 JULY 2015 SAT 18 CASTLE HEAD ABSEIL TRIP NO HELMET NO GO! A re-run of the rained out trip on the Autumn program. This multi-pitch trip features great views of the Jamison Valley and Mt Solitary. After abseiling down the head we ll wander up the Ruined Castle for lunch before heading back to the cars via the Golden Stairs. A great beginners trip for those who can lock off and prussic. SUN 19 TUE 21 GLENBROOK INFO CENTRE - LENNOX BRIDGE - ELIZABETH AND MARGE'S LOOKOUTS - LAPSTONE ZIG ZAG - GLENBROOK INFO CENTRE Visit the oldest bridge on the Australian mainland and the historic viaduct and railway cutting. Scenic views from the lookouts over the Nepean River and beyond. On a clear day we can see the Sydney CBD. 8kms with 100m ascent and descent. Map: Penrith WALKS COMMITTEE MEETING For members of the Walks Committee. Suggestions for the Spring program must be given to a member of the walks committee or ed by tonight, or they won't make it onto the program. SAT 25 & SUN 26 BACKPACK: BLUE GUM FOREST The planned route for this walk is from Govett s Leap to camp at Acacia Flat, and then returning up Lockley s Pylon. This route should give us some beautiful tracks to walk along and some magnificent views on the way out. Grade: 3 Maps: Katoomba & Mt Wilson AUGUST 2015 SAT 1 ABSEIL TRIP: BOARS HEAD NO HELMET NO GO! There are 5 abseils on this trip, including the spectacular slot abseil. This is a spectacular and popular trip. If we have enough interest we may decide to do the climbing exit, so let the coordinator know if you are interested in that option. 6 AUGUST 2015 SAT 1 & SUN 2 BEGINNER BACKPACK: GLENBROOK RAILWAY STATION - EUROKA CAMPING AREA AND RETURN This is a short, easy walk of up to 10kms which provides an excellent introduction to overnight walking. There are even toilet facilities at the camp site. If you haven t done a backpack before, why not try this one? The Nepean River and a number of walking tracks are nearby, so there is a lot to explore after we get to camp, or you could just relax in the sun. Camping fees apply. Map: Penrith SUN 2 ADVANCED ABSEILING & CAVING SRT TRAINING NO HELMET NO GO! This day will only cover more advanced techniques. Ric will be running Caving SRT training for those that want to practice advanced techniques for caving, eg use of mechanical ascenders, crossing rebelays etc. All caving SRT participants MUST have their own set of mechanical ascenders. If caving isn t your thing there will be instruction in other fun things for the more advanced abseiler. If you d like to participate please the abseil committee at bbcabseil@gmail.com and we ll send you more details, including the secret venue. Climbers might want to throw their climbing gear in too if they feel like playing around after the serious business of abseil training is over. SAT 8 MT KEIRA LOOKOUT AND ROBERTSONS LOOKOUT Starting at Byarong Park we will follow the Mt Keira Track to climb Robertsons Lookout and then Mount Keira Lookout. We will descend via the Dave Walsh track and then back to the cars. A very picturesque 14km walk with stunning views and probability of seeing wildlife. Grade: 3 Map: National Parks Map SAT 8 ABSEIL TRIP: NARROWNECK BIG HOLE NO HELMET NO GO! We ve completed our reconnaissance of this rarely done route off Narrowneck and now it s time to share the fun. Come along and visit this special place. There are two magnificent abseils of 55m and 63m and a number of interesting features to visit on the way in and the way out. Experienced abseilers only. SUN 9 MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE: LOWER BLUE MOUNTAINS NO HELMET NO GO! The route for this ride is Woodford Railway Station Woodford Ridge The Oaks Fire Trail Glenbrook Railway Station. Maps: Katoomba, Springwood, Penrith. Meeting at Woodford station. Bring bike, lunch, spare tube, water, sunscreen and helmet (compulsory). A mountain bike is preferable as the ride is mostly on gravel fire trail. Largely downhill (except for the uphill bits). This ride is a grade 2 of around 31kms with a 350m climb/descent. joining any walk or social event. Please show consideration for others and call before 9pm. 6

SUN 16 SAT 22 SUN 23 WATTAMOLLA TO EAGLE ROCK - ROYAL NP The walk from Wattamolla picnic area to Eagle Rock is an excellent way to see the Royal coastline and the Eagle Rock formation. This walk heads south from Wattamolla, following the Coast Track, leaving the sea cliffs for a while to pass through some beautiful heath, then back to the coast, to the Eagle Rock Lookout. 7.5 km return. Map: Royal NP BARRENJOEY TO MANLY COASTAL WALK This magnificent walk traverses the northern section of Sydney s Great Coastal Walk. Mostly on track, footpaths or sand. The walk is 35kms all up and will require an early start. We'll be using public transport and will finish up with dinner in Manly before heading home. Grade: 4 Map: Great Coastal Walk brochures AUSTRALIAN BOTANIC GARDEN - MT ANNAN Come and explore the Gardens and climb Mount Annan. Many walking tracks, up to 10km, but we ll decide on the day. Or if you prefer, bring your bike and explore that way. If you are going to cycle, the club s No Helmet, No Go policy applies. Others could join us for a picnic lunch. SAT 29 & SUN 30 BACKPACK: HATCHERS HOLLOW This walk follows the Uni Rover Trail for some distance before dropping down Dicksonia Bluffs and then following the Kowmung River to Hatchers Hollow. By all accounts Hatchers Hollow is a beautiful camp site reputed to be full of bird life. The next day we will ascend Despond Ridge and out over Mt Misery. Some off track walking will be encountered. Don t be put off by the names, it looks like a good walk, and don t be put off by the fact Chris hasn t done the walk before, there is a first time for everything! Distance 27km, 700m ascent and descent. Grade: 4 exploratory Maps: Yerranderie and Kanangra joining any walk or social event. Please show consideration for others and call before 9pm. 7
