2 Basketball 7D E A Liam Lamont, Arthur Corunna, Rohan Dick A good start to the season. The Year 7 D & E team played a combined game against. An enjoyable match for all the players. It was a solid first game for us against a strong team who were leading for the majority of the game. With limited training time this term we showed some really promising passages of play on offense and defence which will definitely win us games. Strong games by the boys named, but very happy with how the whole team played.

3 Basketball 1sts C B A Izzat Mazlin, Timothy Utama, Madoc Hill The Scotch team started with plenty of intensity and hunger, but the team soon took over the game as they scored 38 points in the opening quarter. The Scotch team never recovered from a poor start and the team dominated the rest of the game, with the Scotch team only able to show glimpses of solid basketball. Finn Hombergen top scored with 16 points, Ben Rushforth scored 10 points, Ben Reid scored 9 points, Lau Penaia scored 7 points, Ben Metcalfe and Year 9 student Mitch Clarke scored 6 points each, with Mitch putting in a very credible effort in his first, 1sts game. Daniel Abimibola scored 2 points. Also, a sound effort by James Warne, Hamish de la Hunty and Seb Bentley. The two teams that were clearly the best two teams last season played another hard fought game with this time just pipping Scotch. Timothy Utama and Izzat Mazlin (20 points) played terrific games. Madoc Hill worked hard all game and was strong at both ends of the court. A lack of training showed with the Scotch team and frankly showed better set up structures. The Scotch boys will improve over the coming weeks. A big thank you to Jess Brownfield for sharing his sports gear with another Scotch boy (JM) who had left his at home :). A dominant first up performance by the 7B s. The team got off to a flying start with Alex Winmar demonstrating his impressive scoring ability and was difficult to maintain. Lachie Wilson inspired his fellow team mates with his tenacious defence in his debut game for. Although the B s faded in the second half, they are to be commended for the teamwork and determination they displayed. It was a great start to the season with all boys contributing to this win. We started a little slow in the first quarter but quickly picked it up with some solid defense, great rebounding and really pushing the ball. had no answer for this quick run with us holding them to 6 points for the first half. With a little under 2 minutes to go we had a commanding lead and it was just a few lapses in the final minutes that gave away some easy buckets. It was very promising for this team to finish off the year. Looking forward to see what these boys can do!

4 Basketball 2nds ths Lucas Baker, Peter Cook The Scotch team had a slow start as they struggled to put points on the board. Defense was solid, but got out to an early lead. Scotch fought back and closed within a couple of points, but held out for an 8 point win. A solid first game for the Scotch team with some consistent efforts from Patrick Wroth, Braden Panting, Khysom Umbagai, Bede Hunt, John Wilson, Oliver Eastland, Will Reagan and Jordan Wilhem. A hastily put together 5ths basketball team found themselves in the deep end against a stronger and faster aquinas team. The boys started strongly, with Remy Schoch putting Scotch up early, however started to put their size advantage to use, taking a commanding quarter time lead. This continued throughout the second quarter, with the Scotch boys struggling to convert on many opportunities. The third quarter saw Lucas Baker display impressive skills on offence, putting in a few buckets in a game where they were scarce for the Scotch boys. Peter Cooke showed immense heart and courage in the last quarter, playing with vigour and determination until the final siren.

5 Cricket 7A 3/69-5/68 1sts 3/81-5/262 Mac Hanlin, Dan Gollan, Jackson Ferri Scotch won the toss and sent into bat. Scotch bowled with great line and length and restricted the scoring to 3 runs per over. There was some lapses in fielding however overall Scotch were very good and restricted to 5/68 from 21 overs. Best bowling figures for Scotch were Ben Parker 1 for 2 off 3 overs and Jed Hood 1 for 5 off 2 overs. Scotch started their run chase solidly. Ben Gale and Lucas Ferri faced some very good bowling from the bowlers who like the Scotch bowlers, bowled with great line and length and restricted Scotch to 30 runs after 11 overs. Needing 10 runs from the last over Ben Parker hit a 6, 1 and the a 3 off the final ball to win by 1 run. Scotch hosted to begin the start of the season, with the excitement building all week. The weather report was not a promising one and for that reason Scotch won the toss and decided to bowl. Early no balls and poor bowling cost the home side with getting away to a decent start. They constructed their innings cleverly, building around their number 3 batsman. He ended up making 150, a standout innings amongst the PSA. ended on 5/262 an imposing total. Scotch never really got going with the weather fast approaching. Wickets early meant no real progress was made. Scotch were 3/81 when the heavens opened and play was called off for the day. A decent first hit out for Scotch.

6 Cricket 9A 8/113-6/159 2nds 162-5/164 Bernard Greyling and Christian Benny Angus Hunt The new season brings new tests as the team begin the preparation for the longer form of cricket. Scotch won the toss and chose to bowl, whilst the early going was with the bowling side unfortunately we could not capitalise. Both Bernard and Josh missed the edge of the bat repeatedly and as the team headed to drink one down they where well on top. A fantastic finish to the innings allowed a competitive total to be posted. Unfortunately the Scotch innings just never got going. An early wicket and then some fine bowling put the batsmen under pressure and we were unable to rotate the strike. Some late hitting came to no avail and won comfortably. Some work to be done this week. Two teams becoming one is an exciting time of the season. The boys have come together quickly to form a competitive team that will do some fantastic things this season. Winning the toss and choosing to bat was a great feeling and as the boys went about their business they found the wicket to be a lively one. At 5/60 trouble was on the horizon as Hunty entered the fray and took control with a quick fire 42 helping us to a competitive 162. At 3/20 were then in some trouble, unfortunately we were not able to maintain the pressure. Some fantastic power hitting quickly taking the game. There was however plenty to take from the game with many good performances to look forward to.

7 Cricket 9B 6/93-3/110 8A 3/113-8/121 Batting - Hudson, Humphrey, Logan Bowling - Paganin 0/19 off 4 (1 M), Greaves 1/12 off 3, Lewin 0/5 off 2 Scotch won the toss elected to bowl on what the boys called a green top. Tight bowling held to a modest score of 1/30 off the first 10 overs. accelerated at the 14th over mark and ended with a solid score of 3/110. Scotch batting began slowly and never really got on top of the oppositions bowling. Our boys fought bravely to end short of the runs at 6/93. However, it is important to note that this team is made up of both Year 8 and 9s and this was the first time they played together. A very positive first effort. Scotch bowled first and struggled to bowl a consistent line and length. Jack Dobson and James Carrigg built some pressure on the batsman and a great catch from Lachlan Cain and a terrific run out from Nick Crump slowed the momentum of the innings. Nick then produced a very good spell, taking three wickets. Felix Jones also bowled a pleasing spell of off spinners and he was well supported in the field. Following the loss of an early wicket, Lachlan and Charlie Harding put together a pleasing partnership to place Scotch in a competitive situation with 10 overs to play. They were both retired and the chase was left to the remaining players. Nick and Jack provided some lofty hitting but unfortunately the team fell just shy of the oppositions total. The players need to become more aware of rotating the strike and making the most of every scoring chance.

8 1sts The Scotch first eight took on in their first round of the new season, and with an essentially unchanged team from last season - ten of the eleven-strong squad having played in term one this year - it promised to be a strong start, with depth, experience, on our side. The boys certainly delivered just that in the first half, coming in at the change with a 9-3 set advantage, thanks to particularly convincing singles performances from Rigby Downland, James Pastarino and Connor Enslin, and the lower order doubles pairing of Elliot Buzza and rowing-convert, Harry Burrell, having a good win also. Tennis 7A The tables were very much turned in the second half, and clawed their way back. Thankfully though, most of the damage had already been done and an outstanding singles performance from Chris Lawrence at number six, plus a set each from Simon Ferreira and our top doubles combination of Ben Webster and Rigby Dowland was enough to get us over the line. All in all, in spite of our falling away in the second half, we can be happy with that start to the season, as are invariably a contender. I was very impressed with the effort Jaye Marzec put in against. His opposition had him down 5-0 in the first set. The game finished 7games to 5 for, but Jaye fought hard to get back into the contest. Although we were beaten, there were some great rallies. Even more impressive was the never give up attitude displayed by all the boys on the team.

9 Tennis 2nds A B In the first match of the season the boys started strongly against at the Claremont tennis club. After just one training the boys quickly found their feet and played some impressive tennis from the outset. Strong wins by Daniel, Phil and Harrison in singles set the tone for the rest of the day. I was impressed by the boy s effort to play out the match even if they lost a set. The doubles sets were really good to watch with Phil and Ethan, Frazer and Daniel and Jamie and Frazer.D having strong wins. Scotch came out fairly comprehensive victors winning 16 sets to 8. Good start by the boys. The 8A tennis team had their first match of the season at on Friday. There had been a number of changes to the team from first term which provided some great opportunities for the boys. In the first set of fixtures, Harrison Burt went down 6 games to 9 games in a closely fought battle, whilst in the doubles Auxence and Tanay teamed together to win 7 games to 5 against their opponents. At the end of the first round of fixtures, had opened up a handy lead of 20 games. In the reverse fixtures, Harrison and Lawson Young won a great doubles match 7 games to 5 games. Maurice Buren also managed to win his singles match 7 games to 4 games. Final scores were College 91 games defeated 54 games. It was great to be out on Friday for our first fixture of the term. We had a number of newcomers testing out their skills and getting used to the court, as well as players returning to the court but getting a chance to play higher up the order. Well done to all of the boys, old and new, I can see it is going to be a good season and all of our players are going to go from strength to strength each week.

10 Tennis 9C B rds 17-7 Notable performances include that of Seb Evans, the Captain of the team who defeated his singles opponent 6-1, 6-1. Joe Dowling and Sam Joyner dominated in their singles, with both scoring 6-0, 6-0. Digby Pink and Ethan Cassidy should also be pleased with their performances with both only dropping one game in their straight sets wins. Tom Krantz A great team performance resulted in a convincing win over, 122 games to 41 games. All of the boys put in a great effort and should be commended on their results. The fact that we only dropped 3 sets is indicative of the boys dominance over their counterparts. Overall boys did very well, not just based on the results, but the boys behaviour, they were polite to the opposition. This was my first time managing a Scotch team and everyone was helpful and cooperative. On the opening fixture of the season the 3rds tennis team were defeated by a strong team 17 sets to 7. Scotch didn¹t get off to a great start as claimed 15 out of a possible 18 sets in the singles rubbers however honorable mentions to Riley Smith for winning both his sets 6-1 and Stuart McGowan for splitting his singles rubber. In contrast the doubles was a highlight for the Scotch 3rds team as we won 4 out of the 8 possible sets equalizing with. Peter Attwell and Oliver Scott-Morey were the best doubles combination winning their game The boys played with spirit and sportsmanship. With a bit of improvement this wil set the team up for a successful year.

11 Volleyball 9A 0-3 1sts 0-3 9C 0-2 A good start to the season against one of the toughest sides. We came close in every set, primarily due to our strong serving. We managed to put some good spikes in, as well as some great blocks. Positioning and passing are two areas of improvement, which will be worked on at training this week. This was a game of offence, and unfortunately was more consistent than ours. We put in some great serves (with a couple of aces), and some great spikes, but we only had one hitting option, with the middle and opposite hitters unused for the entire game. This is something that needs work at training. Our first game of the season was against College and it was played at Loftus Recreation Centre. At the start of set one it was impossible to separate the two teams. Although both teams were making similar mistakes, we had a good flowing game. Although the Scotch boys had only two training sessions before the game, they displayed good movement on the court. However, won the first set mainly because of their better serves. Scotch dominated the start of set two. The boys were more determined and worked the ball better around the court and kept on the back foot with some consistent serving. However, caught up because of several serve errors by the Scotch boys later into the game. Scotch soon found them behind and closed out the set The game was played in good spirit with both teams giving the best they can produce at this stage. The Scotch boys should improve with more training sessions.

12 Water Polo 1sts 7-14 Throughout the first quarter and a half the Scotch team were in the contest. After 2 mistakes on the table, which ended up in a 2 goal turnaround and Lachlan Vos incorrectly given 3 major fouls the Scotch team lost their momentum. It was a valuable lesson about staying focused when things you can t control don t go your way. Scotch also gave up too many soft goals due to incorrect body positioning in defence. There are many things we can improve upon and the Scotch players are looking forward to the very hard work ahead of them if they want to compete at this level.
