2 TERM Sport s Badminton 1st 0-9 2nd 0-9 Harry Burrell Jack Varney Angus Stewart Saturday saw the start of the second round of fixtures with Scotch playing top placed. The team was looking at improving on their result from Round 1 and fought hard against a very talented outfit. Harry Burrell was the standout performer pushing his opponent to the 3 set and very nearly taking a singles match off (something that no school managed in the first round). Overall proved why they are yet again on top of the ladder with a very convincing win. The seconds had their second fixture for the season against who are very strong. Like the firsts they were aiming to improve their result from their first encounter. again proved very dominant although Angus Stewart pushed his opponent to 3 sets as did the team of Kayle Worth and Haolin Wu in the top doubles fixture. The boys played well, however, still had a dominant victory.

3 TERM Sport s Cross Country Senior 5th Christ Church All Schools 5 Man x 3km Relays placed 5th, a result that correctly reflected the performance of the team. Once again all the boys who competed did their absolute best, many of whom collapsed in exhaustion after finishing their leg of the relay. Having Captain Harry Wiffen return from injury has been a real bonus. Although not back to full fitness he inspires the boys with his motivational pre-race addresses and always gives his very best in the heat of competition. Oliver Green was again our number one runner and he was supported by Riley Aitken, Joshua Jones, Matt Nixon, Max Zamin and a whole group of Year 8 and 9 runners who compete every week. Special mention must be made of Jack Couzens who has been on a steep curve of improvement. Jack ran the first leg of the relay and came in 6th place.

4 TERM Sport s Football 2nds A Coleman, Campbell, Reid, Vlahov, J Simpson Braden Kerr, Yukio Chaplin, Joel Barnden, Lewis Daisley A pleasing result for the boys after a few tough weeks. Scotch worked their way into the 1st quarter through hard running and contested possession. Campbell and Reid were dominant during the game, paving the way for the boys to maintain possession and surge forward on many occasions. The third quarter was a spirited contest from both teams, highlighting our commitment and control through the centre of the ground. The midfield showed good leadership in taking ownership of the game during this time. Darcy Coleman was superb in defence, propelling countless attacks forward for the Scotch team. A strong foundation to gain redemption against AC at home next week. Scotch set themselves to make amends for our previous 92 point defeat at the hands of in the opening round. We started well and kicked the first 3 goals and kept goalless in the opening term. regained control in the second quarter to lead by a point at half time. We were left to rue the missed chances in the third term. A late goal in the last minute enabled to hold on to a narrow victory - however it is important to recognise the 80 point turn around in just a handful of weeks. The boys will set themselves for a tough game against Aquinas this week. Good luck boys.

5 TERM Sport s Hockey 1sts 2-3 7C 3-0 This was an excellent game of hockey but sadly one we got nothing out of in terms of points. We lost Hugh Whitewood to sickness before we started but Alex Cain had a good game in his place. Scotch began very well, putting in two open play goals (Munckton and Murray) to two up in 6 minutes. But have a very big strong team and they fought back with their inside right cutting us apart with some devastating runs. At half time we found ourselves on the back foot, 2-3 down, but very much in the game. We were the better team in the second half but could not find the equalizer despite two penalty corners and a lot of pressure. Christ Church The Year 7Cs remain unbeaten after an exciting match against CCGS. The boys did not make good use of opportunities for goals in the first half. Just before half time, Josh O Dea scored off a great pass from Lachie Malloch. In the second half, Scotch played a more offensive game and both goals were scored by our defence: Liam Blok and Max Vaughan. Angus Cullen Falconer was tenacious as a forward. All in all, a great team effort. The boys listened to each other in the second half, created space and their efforts were rewarded.

6 TERM Sport s Rugby 8A A Hugh Edwards - Outstanding Player of Match Jock Thomson, Morgan Gatley - Improved Darcy McDougal 7. The second half was dominated by Scotch in tricky weather conditions with further scores by Jock Thomson, Lachlan Thompson and Lachlan Phillips. Sean Szalek, fired up since missing last week, gave typically charging breaks closely followed by the raging Will Harkins, Fletcher Houston and Hugh Edwards never too far away. A great team effort with all subs being used. Skipper O Sullivan was given ten minutes of the field for a dangerous tackle with 4 minutes to go. Despite another outstanding effort from the Skipper, it was decided for the first time this season to crown Hugh Edwards with the honour of outstanding player of the field. Well done all! The Scotch Year 10 team had a hard fought victory against a fired up on Saturday at Collins Oval. started strongly for a good 5 minutes and the pressure finally told as they scored in the corner and led 7 0. Scotch responded and put the ball through a number of pods with James Warne, Matthew Ormerod and Will Cusack prominent. A slick backline move led to Chase Deitner scoring under the posts. kicked a penalty and Nick Gale who had a good game at fly half scored a try in the corner after good lead up work. Scotch led at half time. Max Hunter had a good first half and he began to display poise at scrum half. He was a constant in a sea of change as the Scotch team rotated 27 players throughout the game. Lau Penaia scored a try from his own half. Mikey Cureton rounded off a good team try whilst Darcy McDougal was dangerous throughout the game. He was rewarded with a try of his own and Abraham Potter rounded off a set move, catch and drive, from a lineout as Scotch emerged victorious 36-15

7 TERM Sport s Rugby 2nds A 5-41 Alexander Giacci, Liam Warner, George Houston Alexander Giacci, Liam Warner, George Houston As the Scotch 2nd XV entered the second half of the season, we were determined to simplify our game plan and revert back to doing the simple things well. Pleasingly, the players stuck to the cunning plan and we scored a convincing win, 31 5.The backs had a great day and implemented quick hands and strong straight running to score all five of Scotch s tries. Alex Giacci scored a hat trick, the birthday boy, George Houston, ran 60 metres to score under the posts and Peter Matthews showed great desperation to score the final try in the corner. Rob Steadman hit three of his five shots at goal too. In the forwards we began to win our lineout ball, we were smarter at the breakdown (despite what the penalty count might suggest) and our dominant scrum continued. Liam Warner stood up and had an excellent game and captained the team particularly well. The team is pleased to be back in the winner s circle and is looking forward to a successful second half of the season. Once again we had to do it tough with only 14 players available for this game. I was very proud of the way the boys dug in and they played a very good first half. At half time we were down on the score sheet 3 tries to 1, but we had dominated large periods of play and we had both strong field position and possession. The unfortunate difference was in the tackle area where we had slipped of a couple of runners close to the ruck opening the door to two easy tries. The second half told a different story with our tight 5 falling away and getting totally dominated at the Scrum. Great heart was shown by some players, and numerous turnovers come our way, through committed tackling.

8 TERM Sport s Christ Church 1sts Scotch returned to the winners circle with 47 point win over however, it was far from comfortable and was certainly not the most convincing performance of the season. started brightly and used their greater physical presence to hammer away at the Scotch line. Scotch however, when in possession looked dangerous and was first to score. Rugby stormed back and with the overwhelming majority of possession they finally got over the line and only a desperate try saving tackle from Ryder Ethelston prevented them from adding more. Scotch were well and truly starved of possession, basic skills errors were a key contributor. O Sullivan scampered up the blind side and chipped over the oncoming defence. Parker collected the kick and powerfully fended off the cover defence to score. Another score followed almost immediately, this time Charlie Grant glided over after being put into space by his brother. At 26 7 at half time it was not only the team that was scratching their heads at the deficit! Josh parker provided the best possible start to the half, powering his way down the right wing leaving a trail of defenders in his wake to score after just a minute. Scotch was then reduced to 14 men with the sending off of Liam Bayly and although had the weight of numbers they simply had no answer to the running game of Scotch. Charlie Grant added tries 3 and 4 to his individual tally and Nick Gale rounded off the scoring with a 75-metre intercept sounds convincing but Scotch will know they have a lot to do in the next 2 weeks.

9 TERM Sport s Rugby 8B B 17-9 The year 8bs played against and lost however the score doesn t reflect their efforts. The match started off poorly as the team was unable to come together and overcome s attacking force. It wasn t till after the half time speech that the boys began to dig their boots into the paddock. Nic, Stewart, Dom, Jack increased their work rate and attacked space whilst other players especially Ryan made brilliant try saving tackles. Small slips ups close to the opponents try-line disrupted their execution holding them back from from turning the score around. The referee commended the teams abilities highlighting the talent amongst the group. Scotch was defeated Guildford Grammar Scotch 10Bs along with the Christ Church 10As defeated Guildford. The boys have gradually meshed into the CCGS side and enjoying the opportunity. Josh aided in extending the narrow margin between the two sides with a fantastic assist. James is continuing to prove to be a valuable member of the starting forward pack. As a whole the group is continuing to gain confidence and develop a deeper understanding of the game. Scotch 10Bs and CCGS defeated Guildford 17-9

10 TERM Sport s Soccer 2nds 1-1 9B 7-1 7A 3-1 Zach Reynolds James Taylor Scotch had a lethargic first half, lacked competitiveness and were beaten comprehensively across the park. A fired up took advantage of their ascendency early, but over zealous defending saw their player awarded a red for obstruction against our keeper. Despite being down to 10 men, continued to dominate and scored 5 minutes later. After a halftime spray, Scotch looked to maintain more possession but were more composed on the ball and were able to dispossess Scotch easily in their defensive half. In the final minute, Scotch threw everyone forward and Charlie s corner was knocked back masterfully by Calvetti to see Patrick bury the ball in the back of the net and equalise. Our away game against was very exciting with the boys attacking hard from the first whistle. The Scotch boys passing game was not working with the defenders not linking well with midfielders. took advantage and scored with a well-placed free kick. The Scotch forwards had a few goal scoring chances but the finishing was not up to the usual standard. The half time score was 1 Scotch 0. After a team reflective moment at half time, the Scotch boys started the second half with a greater desire to win. We started to see the linkup play between midfielders and forwards. James Taylor started to take control of the midfield and soon scored with a great free kick. The ball was almost entirely being played in the half of the pitch when Drew scored Scotch s second goal. Stephan started to cause the defense all sorts of problem and scored three times in succession. Callum and Drew scored in the last ten minutes to make the final result 7-1 for Scotch. After a slow start, the Scotch boys managed to get organised and achieved another great win. The 9B boys remain undefeated after six games. The boys played a great game on this overcast afternoon. Playing on the smaller pitch on the Nedlands foreshore played to our advantage this week as we played with structure and tenacity keeping under pressure the whole game. It was a competitive game with a real physical edge to how it was played. I am impressed at how the team is coming together. We almost held them scoreless letting one through in the final minutes in a small miscommunication. A very strong effort coming into the end of the term.

11 TERM Sport s Soccer 7C 4-0 7B 1-0 9A 4-2 Jaxson Stanley played for the 7C team and had a huge impact on the games with his assertive style of play. His tenacious tackling made it difficult for to advance the ball. Last week s game against Hale was a real challenge for us but we had fantastic efforts from a number of boys. Matt Dean made countless saves in goals, however Oscar Moss, who played defense, gave 110% effort throughout the game and needs to be acknowledged for his contribution. Our game against started slow and we were unable to score during the first half. However, when Jack Adams moved back into defense for the second half, he had an immediate impact on the game. Jack consistently broke up s attack and sent us into an offense threat. The fullbacks maintained a pressure that kept the ball in s half where we scored 4 unanswered goals. A good rebound from last week s loss to Hale. training and on Saturdays and once again test themselves against the competition benchmark on their home turf in the last game of the season. In wet and windy conditions, the 7B s played an attacking brand of soccer and richly deserved their victory. With Blair Bailey doing a great job as Goal Keeper, Scotch created numerous goal scoring opportunities throughout the game and were able to capitalise on one occasion to record a 1-0 win. Scotch travelled to College to play their 5th game of the season. Arriving to the game late Scotch were not afforded a warm up and so it was an uncharacteristically disjointed first 15 minutes to what would become an uncomfortable arm wrestle of a match for the remainder of the time played at. Scotch quickly hit the lead in the first 10 minutes with a close range finish from Harry O Donnell. But from there, the game descended into a series of missed opportunities and poor teamwork as Scotch abandoned the game plan that had brought them so much success in the past 4 games. Thus, it wasn t surprising when equalized just before half time after some confusion in the Scotch defence. The second half started with scoring almost immediately. Scotch worked hard to increase their pressure and was justly rewarded with an equalizer from Flynn Davies. With 10 minutes remaining, Scotch looked to have too much left in the tank, and it was no real surprise when they hit the lead with their 3rd and then 4th goals in quick succession to finish the game as 4:2 victors. A hard fought but scrappy win for Scotch.

12 TERM Sport s Soccer 8B C 1-4 The 8B s had the task of taking on the first place College on Friday afternoon at Robertson Oval. Having lost the first fixture against 2-1, Scotch were eager to improve on that result and get a win this time around. Unfortunately it was not to be, with scoring an early goal to go 1-0 up. Scotch fought back however, and within minutes of the second half starting it was back to 1-1, with Ben scoring an excellent goal, after receiving the ball at halfway, before beating two defenders and running in to goal and burying it into the bottom corner. From then on, Scotch were the dominant team, helped by the wind that we had in the 2nd half. couldn t get out of their half, but scored a lucky goal from a goal kick, which bounced over our defenders heads for the onrushing striker to score and make it 2-1. The boys were very disappointed with the result, but they put up a very good fight and were unfortunate in the end. As well as Ben scoring the goal, Josh was magnificent in goal, especially in the first half when the wind was pushing forward. For the Fourth time this season, Scotch versed top ranked College, and again came away with a loss. It was particularly disappointing for the team because the lack of commitment of a certain few boys meant that Scotch had only 9 players playing for three quarters of the game. Eddy twisted his knee and bravely attempted to play on, however he couldn t run anymore and had to be subbed, while Antonio also got injured. Scotch took the lead inside 5 minutes of the game and the team believed that this would finally be the game that we could beat, before the injuries struck. The 9 men on the pitch bravely ran their hearts out, and were in the game until the last two minutes when kicked the sealer. 45 minutes of the game had been 2-1 to, with Scotch having a chance of getting a result, however scored a late goal to make it 3-1 and end any chance of a win. Special mention must go to Jordan for the amount of work he put in, while Antonio and Eddy bravely attempted to play on and help the team but couldn t continue due to injuries.
