9 Tournament Results 9 coosaw cup We hosted our annual Coosaw Cup tournament on November 3rd & 4th. This year the teams were captained by Terry Hilts for the Gold Team and Peggy Beale for the Green Team. The team rosters were selected by the Captains based on the final 2018 points list. Saturday morning matches featured a 2 person, best ball format. The Gold team took the early lead. But, in the afternoon matches of alternate shot, the Green team was able to battle back to finish the first day in a tie.. On Sunday, the format was individual match play with12 matches to be played. The scoring was all tied with the last 2 matches left on the course. In the end, the Gold team, captained by Terry Hilts, was able to pull out the victory on the 17th green and win for the first time in 3 years! Congratulations to the winning Gold team! With significant rules changes, we expect there to be a learning curve for our staff, as well as participants in tournaments. Coosaw Creek plans to implement and utilize the new rules in compliance with the USGA to provide fair play for all tournaments. We also plan to host Rules Seminars at the Club beginning in January. We will send a notice to the membership once the dates have been selected. But, please take a moment to read through the new rules so that you are familiar with the changes that will be coming into effect. The new rules can be found on the USGA website at h t t p : / / w w w. u s g a. o r g / c o n t e n t / u s g a / h o m e - page/rules/rules-2019 Below is the first of our new monthly "Rules Spotlight" to help identify some of the NEW 2019 rules that will be in play. It will contain the "Player's Edition" of the rule that can be found on the USGA website, under rules. Often times it will also include definitions and explanations to help players understand the purpose of the rule, as well as the rule itself "rules SPotLiGHt" rule 13.2 the FLaGSticK Purpose of Rule: This Rule covers your choices for dealing with the flagstick. You may leave the flagstick in the hole or have it removed (which includes having someone attend the flagstick and remove it after your ball is played), but you must decide before making a stroke. There is normally no penalty if a ball in motion hits the flagstick. This Rule applies to a ball played from anywhere on the course. (Course: The entire area of play within the edge of any boundaries set by the Committee. The boundary edge extends both up above the ground and down below the ground.), whether on or off the putting green. (Putting Green: The area on the hole you are playing that is specially prepared for putting, or the Committee has defined as the putting green, such as when a temporary green is used).

If you re-grip 10 or more clubs, we will check and adjust the loft and lie for your clubs for $1 per Club! The golf shop has expanded club repair services beyond re-gripping. We now offer full club repair services to include re-shafting, loft & lie adjustments and shaft extensions and trimming. NormaL PriciNG Loft and Lie Adjustment - $5 per club Re-gripping - as low as $7 per club (depending on grip selected) Re-shafting - as low as $30 per club (depending on shaft selected) See the golf shop staff for additional information. instructional tip of the month: continue PracticiNG Now that we are getting into the colder season we have to make sure we continue to practice to not lose feel and consistency in our golf swing. I have listed three indoor drills for you to work on at home on the cold days that you are not able to make it to the driving range. around the WorLd- For this drill set a golf cup sized cup or glass in the middle of the floor. Place 12 balls around the cup; 3 from 3 feet, 3 from 6 feet, 3 from 9 feet, 3 from 12 feet. Once you hit the cup with all three balls from 3 feet you may move back to 6 feet and so on until you hit the cup with all 12 balls. If you miss one you start all over. This is a great drill to work on starting line with your putts and gives you a great competitive game indoors. mirror drill- For this drill all you need is a mirror. Work on getting into the correct set up, focus on all points of your body (shoulders, hips, knees & feet) aligned to the same target. Make slow motion swings and use the mirror to check your positions. This is an excellent drill to maintain flexibility during the winter months as well as make sure the swing is staying the same if you are not spending time at the range. broom drill- This is one of my favorite drills to help with body rotation, flexibility, and maintaining a more shallow, rotational golf swing. Get into your normal set up and grip the broom as if it is a golf club. Make full swings, focusing on body rotation, as if you are sweeping the ball off the ground. With the weight of the broom, this is a great drill to keep your lat muscles from tightening and to fight a steep, over the top golf swing. If you have any questions on these or any other drills you can work on during the winter please feel free to stop by the golf shop and speak to our professional golf staff. We offer private instruction at a fee of $50 per lesson. Book a series of 3 private lessons for $125 or a series of 5 private lessons for $200. Group lessons, clinics and playing lessons also offered.

14 Women4Women News Since 1993, Samaritan s Purse has partnered with local churches around the world to deliver 157 million Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts to children in need in 160 countries. Each one packed full of fun toys, school supplies, and hygiene items by a family or individual is sent with prayer that the child who receives it will experience God s love through their simple gifts. Many of the children who recieve these boxes are victims of war, povety, famine, terrorism, disease and natural disaster. Many have never received a present in their lifetime. Karen Hauschild, a resident of Coosaw Creek, is involved in the organization as a Community Relations Year Round Volunteer for Operation Christmas Child. At a recent Women4Women gettogether, Karen spoke to the women about the organization and how much it means to children around the world. Enthusiastically, the group decided to participate in this wonderful charity! The final 14 count of shoeboxes that were turned in was 43 shoeboxes for Samaritans Purse. Thank you to everyone who participated! If you are interested in learning more about Samaritans Purse, you can go to samaritanspurse.org or contact Karen Hauschild at klasck23@hotmail.com. 15 15 CCGHC NEWS Laurette Sweet, master gardener, returned to Coosaw in November to teach CCGHC members about houseplants that clean the air and promote health. There was a record turnout for this meeting, and members went home with spider and snake plant starts, and some aloe, and a lot of information and helpful advice. A good time was had by all! 2018 was a good year for the Coosaw Garden and Home Club. We had more than 50 paying members, and attendance at meetings was usually around 20 with a few exceptions. The year's activities included a field trip to a nearby hydroponic farm, a lesson in making homemade marinades and dry rubs for BBQ, a project assembling a kokedama bonsai plant, a class and project using essential oils, a presentation on decluttering techniques, a speaker discussing the howtos and importance of rain gardens in the low country, and lectures on gardening in the south, and the healing properties of houseplants. the LaSt meeting of 2018! annual cookie exchange tuesday, december 11tH 11am at the clubhouse In January, a covered-dish luncheon will kick-off the New Year and dues will be collected for More details to come! The Garden and Home Club is looking for volunteers for Co-President positions next year. This responsibility was split three ways in 2018 and things worked out very well with the sharing of work to organize meetings and speakers. If we could get one or two volunteers to join the President's "Team" for the coming year, it would be great. The current presidents would love to welcome another member or two into the organization process. Please think about volunteering - it is not a huge commitment of time and there is much enthusiasm in Coosaw for these kinds of get-togethers. They are an especially nice way to welcome new neighbors, put people in touch with each other and explore what is happening and available in the Charleston area. It's also a way for everyone to stay connected with each other while learning something new. Clubs like this are as fun as the people who get involved! We have some great ideas for 2019, including a return of the Garden Tour of Homes in Coosaw (May) and another Plant Sharing Day (Oct). Come join us, volunteer to help plan, and continue the activities we've enjoyed in the past!
