13 13 instruction CoRNER Ihave been hearing from a lot of people recently having trouble hitting their hybrids. Hybrids are a great tool to have in your bag these days because they are much easier to hit then a 3 or 4 iron. These clubs are designed to help you make solid contact and help you get the ball up in the air. There are two common swing faults you see among golfers when they are trying to hit their hybrids. The first one is playing the ball to far forward in your stance. Most people think they need to play the ball towards the front of their stance to sweep up on the ball like they do with their other woods which is not the case; you want to play the ball more toward the center of your stance, below the logo on your left chest. The other fault is trying to swing up on the ball to make it go higher. With a hybrid, we want to have more of a descending strike down to the ball rather than a sweeping up motion. Even though the head is a little bigger we want to swing it more like we do with our irons than how we do with our woods. So just remember these two things and putting in a little practice on the range you should be able to see improvement in your ball striking with your hybrids. WELCoME To GoLF PRoGRAM Coosaw Creek is hosting another Welcome to Golf Clinic Series as part of our Get Golf Ready program. 14 Golf Event Schedule DATE DAY TOURNEY (** = Major) FORMAT Dec 2 Sat End of Year Shamble Team Shamble 10am SG Course Update The high volume of rain has continued to pose problems and delay our projects through the summer months. Even routine mowing and maintenance on the golf course has been difficult to accomplish with frequent days of heavy rains. Our tree trimming and removal project is ongoing but has been slowed. So far we have made it around to hole #7, but we ve had to skip some areas to avoid causing damage to the course with the heavy equipment. The biggest problems caused by the wet and hot conditions are the pests and disease that can tend to form. We have been treating for fungus on the greens, mole crickets & nematodes, as well as weeds wanting to pop up everywhere. The constant rains make it difficult to effectively apply pesticides and fungicides, but turf health still appears to be in good shape. We are hopeful that mother nature will be kind to us as fall approaches and we will be able to dry the course out to get back on schedule. 16 16 "TEE it FoRWARD" TEE options The PGA has been promoting the Tee it Forward initiative to help golfers of all skill levels enjoy the game, as well as to grow the game by in an attempt attract new junior golfers, families and beginning golfers to the game of golf. As a reminder to our members and guests, Coosaw Creek features 5 sets of tee options for men (Blue, Blue/White, White, White/Green and Green) with an appropriate USGA slope and rating so that scores may be posted from the tees played and calculated accurately for handicapping purposes. And, we have 4 sets of tee options for ladies (White/Green, Green, Green/Gold & Gold) also with an appropriate USGA slope and rating for ladies, as well. In addition, we also have 2 sets of "Family Tees" throughout the course. You will see new tee markers (Silver and Black) located in the fairway to provide appropriate starting points for juniors and beginners, as well as for families to come out and play golf together. We recommend getting the kids and beginners out to utilize these tees during non-peak hours of play (after 3pm). Family tee scorecards are available in the pro-shop. If you have questions regarding what set of tees you should be playing, please contact the golf shop staff. They are located: BEHIND THE PLAYGROUND - Approach from McChune Court HOLE 15 Approach from Arthur Hills Circle HOLE 16 Approach from Club Course Drive HOLE 17 Approach from Power Line Break Fish in course ponds are for catch and release and not for consumption a major disappointment to our chef! These guidelines are established to ensure a positive experience for all Members and guests who use the facilities. Enforcement is the responsibility of all members and staff of the Club. A polite reminder is usually sufficient, but should it become necessary to report any violation please call the Pro-Shop or the Club General Manager. We hope that you enjoy these excellent facilities your Club has to offer. If you have any questions or comments regarding these guidelines or your experience, please feel free to contact us directly at the club, Thank you, FOR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS Mike Benner, PGA General Manager
