Their certificates of accomplishment are on display above the Handicap Posting Computer. The committee would like to remind all golfers to post their scores for every round. If you need assistance establishing a handicap or posting your scores, please contact a golf shop staff member. INsTrUCTIONAL TIP OF THe MONTH - LONG bunker shots Most golfers understand the concept of executing a basic greenside bunker shot: You want to swing through the sand, under the ball. But when it's a longer bunker shot of 20 to 40 yards, the fatal mistake I see is swinging harder to try to hit the ball farther. Do that and you usually end up taking too much sand and leaving the shot well short. Instead, follow this checklist. First thing to do is to take a less lofted club, the longer the shot the longer the club. Do not be afraid to use a less lofted club just remember to open up the face before you take your grip. Secondly aim closer to the ball, instead of hitting a few inches behind like you would in a standard bunker shot try to hit just about an inch behind the ball. Third you need to make a full turn to generate enough power to propel the ball all the way there. Finally maintain your knee flex, doing this will help ensure the club glides through the sand under the ball, don t just chop and stop, keep swinging through. A high finish will help loft the ball into the air and send it the distance you need. So try these for things and you should see improvement in your long bunker shots.

13 13 New 2019 UsGA rules In 2019, the usga WILL implement major changes to the rules of golf. With significant rules changes, we expect there to be a learning curve for our staff, as well as participants in tournaments. Coosaw Creek plans to implement and utilize the new rules in compliance with the usga to provide fair play for all tournaments. We will also host 2 Rules Seminars at the Club Rules of Golf books will be provided at the seminar. Space will be limited, so please call the golf shop to sign up if you wish to attend either date. s may attend for FREE, guests will be charged $10 per person. THe DATes FOr THe 2019 rules OF GOLF seminars: Monday - January 7th, 5:30pm - 7:00pm at the Clubhouse sunday - January 13th, 4:00pm - 5:30pm at the Clubhouse Please take a moment to read through the new rules so that you are familiar with the changes that will be coming into effect. The new rules can be found on the usga website at Below is our monthly "Rules Spotlight" to help identify some of the NEW 2019 rules that will be in play. It will contain the "Player's Edition" of the rule that can be found on the usga website, under rules. Often times it will also include definitions and explanations to help players understand the purpose of the rule, as well as the rule itself "rules spotlight" 13.1 Actions Allowed or Required on Putting Greens 2019 Rule: Rule 13.1c(2) allows repair of almost any damage on the green: Damage on the putting green will be defined to include all types of damage (such as ball-marks, shoe damage, indentations from a club or flagstick, animal damage, etc.), except aeration holes, natural surface imperfections or natural wear of the hole. reasons FOr CHANGe: Because putting greens are specially prepared for playing the ball along the ground, the Rules allow the player to do things on the green that are not allowed anywhere else: The player may mark, lift and clean a ball on the green at any time, remove sand and loose soil on the green and repair old hole plugs and ball-marks on the green. Given this philosophy of allowing players to try to have a smooth surface for rolling the ball, there is no conceptual reason for prohibiting repair of other types of damage (whether made by players, animals, maintenance staff, etc.). This Rule change will eliminate the frequent questions among players and referees about whether a particular area of damage on the green is a ballmark that may be repaired or is a shoe mark or other damage that must not be repaired. The concern has been noted that allowing repair of all damage on the putting green could slow down play if players try to repair too many areas; but we believe this is unlikely to be true for most players and that the Rule against unreasonable delay (as well as a Committee s pace of play policy) can be used to address situations where a player seeks to make excessive repairs.

14 Tee it Forward Initiative - Blended Tees The PGA has been promoting the Tee it Forward initiative to help golfers of all abilities enhance their enjoyment the game. It is also being used to help grow the game by providing new junior golfers, families and beginning golfers with an appropriate tee to play while learning the game. Most people already know that we have 3 sets of tees (blue, white and green), but you may not be aware that we also offer blended tee options (blue/white, green/white and green/gold) for golfers to play, as well. The proper tee to play on each hole and the corresponding yardage is provided on the course scorecard Us women's OPeN The United states Golf Association is excited to host the 2019 U.s. women s Open Championship at the Country Club of Charleston May 27 June 2, COOsAw CreeK COUNTrY CLUb HAs been INVITeD TO PArTICIPATe IN THe UsGA MArsHAL CLUb PrOGrAM TO ADOPT A HOLe FOr THe week OF THe CHAMPIONsHIP! The course ponds are part of a larger low country wooded wetland area. Please respect this incredible asset and avoid contaminating it with any foreign materials or liquids. Fishing is allowed only from the bank and only in designated areas. These areas have been selected to ensure that people fishing are not in the normal DO NOT FEED THE GEESE flight of golf balls and that ponds can be approached without crossing the course or using the cart paths. They are located: BEHIND THE PLAYGROuND - Approach from McChune Court HOLE 15 Approach from Arthur Hills Circle HOLE 16 Approach from Club Course Drive HOLE 17 Approach from Power Line Break Fish in course ponds are for catch and release and not for consumption a major disappointment to our chef! These guidelines are established to ensure a positive experience for all s and guests who use the facilities. Enforcement is the responsibility of all members and staff of the Club. A polite reminder is usually sufficient, but should it become necessary to report any violation please call the Pro-Shop or the Club General Manager. We hope that you enjoy these excellent facilities your Club has to offer. If you have any questions or comments regarding these guidelines or your experience, please feel free to contact us directly at the club, Thank you, FOR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS Mike Benner, PGA General Manager
