Also, we would like to remind our members that range balls and bags are NOT to be removed from the driving range. If you have any bags or balls in your cars, golf carts, or garage, we ask that you please return them to the driving range so we can keep them in circulation for the enjoyment of all members and guests. Thanks! ALL PLAYERS MuST REGiSTER in THE GoLf SHoP PRioR To STARTiNG PLAY. Any players found on the course without checking in will be charged the full golf rate. Please help us by notifying the North Charleston Police if any suspicious activity is witnessed within the community or on the golf course. RuLES question of THE MoNTH: Part of boundary fence is bowed inwards towards the course so that it is inside the boundary line formed by the fence post. A player s ball comes to rest against part of the fence. Is the player entitled to relief? Answer on next page instruction corner Now is the time to work on your game, as the season kicks off. We offer private instruction at a fee of $50 per lesson. Book a series of 3 private lessons for $125 or a series of 5 private lessons for $200. Group lessons, clinics and playing lessons also offered. instructional TiP of THE MoNTH: PERfEcT YouR PoSTuRE Getting yourself into the correct posture is very important. When your body is angled properly at the start, you have the foundation for a consistent, repeatable swing. It allows you to coil around a constant axis and swing the club up and down on the proper plane. The key to a good setup is to tilt forward from your hip joints, not your waist. The difference is subtle, but bending from the waist causes the back to get rounded and it s tough to make a good swing from this un-athletic position. For better posture, try this: Stand tall in front of a mirror, tuck your fingertips into the joints at the front of your hips, and tip your upper body forward as you push your hips and backside out behind you. Keep your shoulder blades flat, and add a little flex to your knees. You should feel athletic and relaxed. Try to re-create this hip-hinged position when you play. You ll look like a pro, and hit it more like one. Also try to keep yourself in that posture throughout the whole swing.

13 Course Update Many of our course projects have now been completed and the temperature is finally allowing for the grass to grow. We have seen significant grass growth on the greens especially in the last 2 weeks of April. completed course MAiNTENANcE PRoJEcTS Drainage installation - We have completed drainage repairs and fixes in a majority of the key locations on the course, including the installation of new drain lines along the cart path of hole #10, around the green on hole #15 and right of the green on hole #4. Fertilizing fairways - On April 7th we applied an organic, slow release fertilizer on the fairways to help stimulate growth of the 419 Bermuda grass throughout the course. Tee Boxes - The leveling and resodding of the blue tee on hole #1 and the white and green tees on hole #6, as well as building a new green tee on #16 were completed in April. These tee boxes should be grown in and ready for play in early May. Bunkers- Sodding of the bunker faces of a number of our fairway and greenside bunkers throughout the course has been completed in an effort to return them to their original flat bottom design. We will now begin the process of trying to establish and grow the grass on these banks. Please remember to play the new sod as GUR and please do not walk on the new bunker faces until the sod has been fully established. Green Collars - We have also completed the installation of tif grand Bermuda collars around all greens. This will help to slow the encroachment of our 419 fairway and rough grass on to the greens complexes, allowing us to maintain the greens surface to their actual size. Tree Removal - Most of our tree removal is complete, but there are still some additional areas where we plan to remove a few more in an effort to improve air circulation and increase sunlight on the course. 13 GREENS update & MAiNTENANcE PLANS The mini-verde grass on the greens have now begun to grow due to the hotter weather. Many of the thin areas on the greens have seen significant grass growth, but there are still some thin areas that we will need to address on a few of the greens such as holes #4, #14 and #15. Our current plan is to continue the aggressive maintenance in an attempt to push the grass coverage. We did perform another small tine aerification or spiking of the course greens on April 25th, and we will continue fertilizing heavily, topdressing and verti-cutting the weaker greens. International Golf Management will also be retuning in early May to help us assess these weaker areas of our greens by conducting soil sample analysis to provide the best recommendation for addressing these areas. It is important to note that we plan to increase the frequency of small tine aerifications (spiking), fertilizing, verti-cutting and top dressing of all greens in an effort to strengthen the grass and root system during the growing season, as well as improve playing conditions. Most of these programs will not result in any serious disruption to play, but please be patient with us as we try to stimulate as much grass growth as possible on the greens. We thank you for your cooperation and patience as we continue to make improvements and repairs on the course. If you have any questions about course related items, please feel free to contact me. Gordon Williams, Golf Course Superintendant RuLES ANSWER: No. A fence defining out of bounds is not an obstruction even if part of it is inside the boundary line formed by the fence post.

Since there are many beautiful yards we cannot see from the golf course, please let us know if you would be willing to showcase your landscaping efforts to members of the CCG&HC, who will certainly appreciate it as much as you do. This club has changed its name to Coosaw Creek Garden & Home Club, allowing us to expand into other areas of interest. If you would consider permitting CCG&HC members to tour your yard that morning, please contact Maggie Thompson at (mbt4178@aol.com) or Georgian Sujka at (GandMS@knology.net) by Tuesday, May 10. 16 16 PLANTS ToXic To PETS Recently, a puppy was added to our family and since then I have been researching toxic plants. The Humane Society states that more than 700 plants have been identified as poisonous. I discovered many garden plants that I didn't know are toxic, some of which are in my yard. Some of the plants are iris, begonias, elephant ears, oleander (toxic to pets & humans), wisteria, mint, azaleas, Carolina jessamine (Confederate jasmine is not toxic), sago palm, and lilies (Easter lilies, peace lilies, daylilies, etc.). This list isn't inclusive, but includes many plants that are found here. There are also many house plants that are toxic to pets such as amaryllis, snake plant, rubber plant, jade plant, aloe vera, philodendron, dieffenbachia, pathos, and dracaena. Please note that there are different levels of plant toxicity. Poisonous plants may cause reactions ranging from mild nausea to death. Refer to the following sites for more information and a more comprehensive list of toxic plants. I've been playing tennis since I was 13, and played high school tennis under coach Heinz Maurer, playing in multiple state playoffs. I previously played college tennis at the University of Mississippi. I have now been teaching tennis for 6 years, and have been certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) for 2 years. I will be offering private lessons this summer at the Coosaw Creek Country Club tennis courts. Private lessons are available to anyone of any age (although I typically suggest 8yrs+) and focus on developing necessary skills, while keeping the emphasis on having fun. Lesson rates are $40 an hour for private instruction and hitting lessons (hitting lessons are for anyone who feels they have fully developed their strokes but would like to further develop their match play mentality). Group lessons are also available $20 an hour per person for 3+ people. I am available by appointment only and can be reached by phone at (843) or by at wrwtennis11@gmail.com.
