Oyster Roast on the Pavillion Saturday, October 2 6:30 p.m. Join us for our 5th annual Oyster Roast on the pavilion. Enjoy lowcountry favorites and all-you-caneat steamed oysters. We will have live music from 7-0 p.m. Reservations required. Carnival Thursday, October 26 5:30-8:30 p.m. Celebrate at the Club! The cost is $2 and will include a family-friendly buffet, lots of games & prizes, and a hayride. Everyone, even parents, is encouraged to wear a costume! AROUND THE CLUB Special Notice Club Closed for Dinner on September 2 Due to the overwhelming response The Surry Arts Council has received for the annual Mayberry Days Dinner here at Cross Creek, we will be closed for regular dining on Thursday, September 2. This is to include to-go orders and all club dining facilities. We however will offer our regular Thursday lunch on that day. We will be closing at 2 p.m. 0th Annual Heart of a Child Ball The Children s Center of Surry, Inc. is a private nonprofit organization for the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. We have two shelters in North Carolina located in Surry and Yadkin county. [ Continued» ]

2 Welcome New s [ Continued» ] Kathryn Moore Eric Barnett Michael Guy Elizabeth Gatewood Samuel McGee Robert Tate We provide care to children ages 6 to 8 and serve kids from, Surry, Yadkin, Wilkes, Stokes Alleghany and Forsyth counties. We also have other services to help support children and families such as Strengthening Families, Incredible Years, Parents as Teachers, Nurturing Parenting Program, Girls Circle, Council for Young Men and Boys, and Youth Moves Circle of Parent and Fresh Start. On February 0, we are hosting our 0th Annual Heart of a Child Ball, dinner, silent auction and music with The Embers Featuring Craig Woolard at Cross Creek Country Club. All proceeds benefit the children and families we serve. As economic hardships increase so do the number of child abuse and neglect reports. The Children s Center is proud to share that every dollar spent during the year, 90 cents went directly to programs that provide child maltreatment and intervention services to children and families. A Note from Chuck We have had a great summer at Cross Creek with better than expected golf play, greatly improved pool area and tennis courts. In addition we had a blockbuster summer camp. I d like to welcome all the new members that joined during our Join the bunch membership campaign and thank all our membership for their referrals and are now enjoying lower dues. We have some great upcoming events. An oyster roast on October 2 will be held on the pavilion with live music. The MGA is putting together a fall golf tournament to be held October 4 and 5, details to follow. Be on the lookout for these and many more great events in the future. Please remember to make reservation to guarantee your spot. As a membership many of you have expressed to me your appreciation for all the hard work that our staff puts into the Club. Our success is due to an extremely loyal group of employees who understand that our job is to serve this club and membership to the best of our ability. Without the fantastic support staff that I am proud to represent as General Manager, our successes would be fewer and much further between. If you haven t done it already, please remember to pass your appreciation directly to the individuals on our team who make our success possible. Your feedback not only builds morale, but also strengthens our resolve to make Cross Creek the best it can be. In service, Chuck Gardner General Manager A Note from the Chef As the summer moves along I am happy to unveil our new menu 2 going into the fall. As usual our culinary team is focusing on using as many local ingredients as possible and providing a varied assortment of cuisines for our supportive membership. Also, as we move along in the year we will be providing more of a focus on Daily Featured Specials as well. Instead of scheduled theme nights, we will be running more daily items such as pastas, Southern faire, fresh catch specials and more. Please come dine with us and as always we love to hear any and all feedback in your dining experience as to provide you with the best experience possible! Regards, David Swing Executive Chef GOLF NEWS 207 Men s Club Championship The 207 Cross Creek Men s Club Championship was held July 6 and 7. Saturday morning 33 contestants teed it up for a 36-hole stroke play event. A Men s Club champion, Senior Club Champion and Junior Club Champion (8 holes) were all crowned by the end of the weekend. After day of the Men s Championship James Goin and David Summers were tied for the lead at -under par, and 5-time club champion Rick Marion was quick on their heels at even par. Birdies were plentiful in the second round. All four players in the final paring posted birdies on the 9th hole. These were 4 of 20 total birdies for the final group on Sunday. Marion mounted a charge on Sunday carding 4 of his

3 Kids had a blast at Summer Camp! Mosaic Explorer 6 birdies on holes 8 through, but it was only good enough to get him into a playoff with Summers at 3-under 4. Summers posted 2 total birdies for the weekend, and capped of his tournament with a playoff victory on the first playoff hole! In the Senior Championship Ray Russell played 36 stellar holes of golf carding a net 38 beating the field and defending senior champion Johnny Marion by 5 shots. Russell credited his solid play to keeping the ball in the fairway off the tee. Sam Nester claimed his second junior club championship in 3 years. He posted a 3-over 75 in the 8 hole event. His closest competitor was Reagan Fitzgibbons who posted an 82 giving Nester a 7 shot victory. Congratulations to our Men s and Junior Champions! The weekend began Friday evening with Glen Tate and Ron Ferguson claiming the top spot on the putting green in the putting contest. The pair completed the challenging 5 hole course in 8 shots. Defending champions Taylor Coalson and Sean Johnson posted a tournament low 66 on Saturday on their way to a 34 total and their second consecutive - Champion ship. Their nearest competitors were Rick Marion and Todd Gardner who started the second round shot back but finished 4 shots back at 38. Coalson & Johnson Golf Course Maintenance With fall beginning to set in, we are now concentrating on healing the greens from aerification. Once the greens have recovered and cooler temperatures begin to set in, we will be able to start back with more aggressive maintenance practices such as changing to Willie rollers on our greens mowers, using grooming reels, rolling more frequently, applying growth regulators and light frequent top dressings. The combination of these tactics will help us get back to the smoother firmer putting surfaces we all miss during the summer season.
