He hs erned severl ntionl titles plced consistently t top in Welsh breed shows in Tril, Western Plesure, English Plesure, Working Hunter over Fences. Additionlly, not only does this super pony st t stud t Bell s Drtl, but he gives updown lessons to young riders, contributes to his community visiting rehb ptients ffectiontely cuddling with wheelchir-bound dmirers. It ws n mzing lesson progrm brn, type tht is despertely hrd to come by se dys. kind tht fetured horses ll different levels, kids working just becuse y wnted to lern things, hrsh instructors, slightly less hrsh ssistnt triners, dult mmies, summer cmps tht worked us until we probbly should hve died from het exhustion, plenty lone time during which we got ourselves into- out- kind trouble tht honestly mde us horsemen we re tody. As n instructor, I struggle with teching kids, so I pss most m long to someone skilled t tht level. lrgest prt my frustrtion is tht I don t know how to give totl, wellrounded eduction tht I experienced growing up Most experiences I remember s shping my eduction, re things tht I d definitely get sued telling my students to do tody ( no one told us to do it, y just pretended not to know). And mount things I wnt to tech is too overwhelming to cover when kids show up ir hour lesson every week. Yesterdy, however, I hd n epiphny. As I picked up mnure k to rke my zen grden (k, clen stll), I remembered tht it wsn t my triner or even brn mnger who tught me to muck out properly. It ws one older girls (she ws probbly 16), t brn, tht ws tired hving to go bck over my work every time who ctully took time to properly tech me her technique. And n memories cme flooding bck to me My friend s mom who tught me how to cold hose when my horse tried to cut f her hind foot on side brn. college student who tught us to free lunge. butt-reming hed out by older girls not hving our ponies turned out properly by time we got to show grounds (so y hd to help us bee our triner found out). sources my eduction kept coming from every ngle s I grew up. I lerned to wrp leg from Club mom who hd seen demo times thn she could count. I lerned not to sty up too lte night bee shoeing dy from frrier when I ws working student (ctully lot life lessons hve been tught by frriers throughout yers). I lerned how to hle dversity in equine world from tble full Ntionl Exminers, I lerned how to mentlly emotionlly cope with loss horse from my vet. morl story is tht it s ll our responsibility to bring up next genertion riders, not just triners. Grid Exercise Flt or Jumping By Cssidy Sitton This month s grid exercise hs been my fvorite s lte, becuse it s very esy to set up, cn be done with pretty every horse in progrm - from dressge mounts to higher level jumpers. It works to get powerful, blnced cnter working from hind-end, relly helps keep horse tuned into rider. For set-up, simply set two poles (with strds if necessry), t lest 72 feet prt down long side ring. three poles in center (mking 3 sided box) poles on short ends do not need strds. min prt exercise is first jump (or pole) on long side, followed by circle (within confinements poles), followed by second jump (or pole) line. This core question is setup to mke sure horse stys rideble st throughout line. circle should be ridden with low, firm h (no wide sddleset hs!), to ensure it stys within boundries you ve set up ( size cn chnge). Once you ve ridden circle, keep blnced cnter you ve creted to second jump, without flttening (chsing), or holding (shutting down), cnter. poles on eir end ring, circles in corners cn be dded into exercise s needed. If horse wnts to nticipte turn in, or out line, dd in corner circle. If rider hs tendency to quit riding fter second element line, dd in poles to keep focus on continuous git qulity. In fct, Region 1 (from New Jersey to North Crolin) ws only tem to medl in both Junior Young Rider division event held t HITS on Hudson show grounds July 19-23,. In ddition to her tem Bronze, Region 1 rider Chse Shipk her Zigl lso won individul Silver, freestyle Gold, Fion Bn Memoril Trophy highest verge cross ll tests. Shipk, who trins in Wellington, FL, hs her fmily frm in Mrshll, VA. She tried college fter high school, but felt like horses were her clling. Shipk just returned from buying trip in Europe, with three young horses now on ir wy to join her in Wellington. She Ziggy hve only been t o g e t h e r s i n c e December, but ir devotion is lredy cler. Although Ziggy ws not huge fn 15 minutes behind-scenes wlk from brn to competition ren, he Shipk l w y s p u t i n h r m o n i o u s t e s t s d e s e r v i n g o f t h e i r medls. Bronze, Silver, Gold Medlist Koby Robson, Aberdeen, hs trined lot horses, but Don Regle MF (k Regis ), is first one to go from sorting cows tril riding in Wyoming, to dressge ren in North Crolin. And pprently, gelding s wrngling experience didn t hurt, s Regis Robson pirouetted ir wy to RSD II Fourth level (70.0%). 11-yer old Hnoverin, owned by Brend Ridenour Foxfire, ws bred by Mrydell s, hd some show ring experience bee his Western y: he ws 2006 Chmpion HOY Current Yer Colts Geldings; in 2010, he plced 2nd t Devon in 4 5-yer old Colts Geldings Mterile, 3rd plce in Suitbility. Robson, who trined competed Regis from Second through Fourth level, sys she hopes to show him t Prix St. Georges next yer, eventully in some CDI's, s long s horse show gods cooperte! Morgn Fenrick, Wxhw, who is 17-yers old, hs been riding since she ws five. Toger with her 9-yer old Irish Drught mre, Roseville (k Rosie ), this mbitious rider does it ll. In pst yer, Fenrick hs tught mer broodmre how to jump; qulified Americn Eventing Chmpionship in Tryon, in Beginner Novice Junior Rider division; competed in Western Stock Shows; fox hunted; worked on her dressge winning RSD I Junior/Young Rider Awrd (69.09% t Trining level test 3). This rising high school senior credits her success to her instructor s emphsis on correct effective foundtion, to Rosie, her " Lifetime." Fenrick is looking wrd to seeing how Rosie will progress se next few yers, especilly t upcoming show series! Koby Robson Don Regle MF cntered to RSD II Fourth level Awrd. Morgn Fenrick Roseville posted RSD II JR/YR. Keni Kerin Mogelvngs Thunder rode to RSD II -Member. In his first time showing t Hunt Complex, Mogelvngs Thunder rolled to victory, erning NDCTA-Member % t First level test 3. Rider triner Keni Kerin, Fuquy Vrin, hs been working with 10-yer old Dnish Wrmblood since he ws imported lst August, by owner Julie Atteberry, Apex. Kerin observed tht gelding is super fun horse tht cn occsionlly be little quirky overll I ws incredibly plesed with his permnce in new venue since he doesn't hve lods show experience. I'm very excited to be prt this journey with Julie Thunder. I think he is going to be relly specil horse! 8
