2 Page 2 Trail Trials Mother Lode s Annual Trail Trials were held on September 21. Although almost an inch of rain fell the day and night before the trials, the morning of the trials dawned crisp and clear, making for a spectacular ride in the foothills for all 59 riders who competed. Feedback from the riders indicated that they all had a wonderful time competing for prizes in many categories. Special thanks to all the sponsors, donors, judges, helpers, points tabulators, lunch providers, and a special HUGE thank you to Jean Zabriskie, who pulled it all off spectacularly! 4 Page 4 The October Mother Lode AHA meeting will be held at 2:00 pm at Lacey s Arabian Ranch, 5200 Andy Wolf Road - Garden Valley. Everyone is invited to attend, Mother Lode Members as well as guests. Please get the word out so we have a nice turnout. The Laceys will present their beautiful horses, and if you sweet talk him, Dean may bring out the buggy and give you a ride! This is a dessert potluck, so bring your favorite sweet treat to share. We are looking forward to a wonderful afternoon with friends and beautiful horses! is some information taken from their website for those of you who don t already know Dean and Sheri. Many thanks to them for hosting us. Lacey's Arabian Center (formerly Rogers Arabian Stud -- home of *Serafix) became Lacey's Arabian Ranch when Murrel Lacey (holder of many National Championships, Reserves, and Top Tens in halter and performance) retired and passed the Lacey/Rogers legacy on to son, Dean, and Dean's wife, Sheri. This included custody of the famous stallions *Karadjordje (Gerwazy x Karramba by Witraz), Fixeyn (*Serafix x Chloeyn by *Raseyn), and Spellbounde (*Bask x SX Carmalita by *Serafix). Dean and Sheri began their own training and breeding business in 1988 in a leased facility in Danville, calling it Lacey's Arabian Ranch, where they trained, showed, and made friends for 11 years. Then, after many visits and much deliberation, the Lacey's Arabian Ranch team bought the famous BruMarBa Arabian Stud ranch in Garden Valley, California and the beautiful Lacey's Arabian Ranch became reality. The Laceys know how to have fun themselves and enjoy sharing their knowledge and good times with others. By encouraging clients to participate in horse activities and to train their own horses, they foster knowledgeable and independent horse owners. They are extremely competent and conscientious in the care and training of horses. Dean is one of the most highly respected trainers and a master in the art of reading and communicating with horses. The Laceys are accomplished in and offer training and lessons in Western Pleasure, Reining, English and Country Pleasure, Equitation, and Endurance. To complete their full service facility, the Laceys offer top quality stallion management, mare care, foaling, halter breaking, sale conditioning, boarding, and consultations in the tranquil environment of their beautiful ranch. At Lacey's Arabian Ranch, you'll find refreshing down-to-earth people. You're invited to visit them in the gold country of California. Their dreams are coming true there --- let them build a dream for you. Want to learn more? Ask Dean. The pastures on a fall day at Laceys Arabian Ranch

6 Page 6 the Regional Level, I currently serve as a member on the Sport Horse, Dressage, and Convention Planning Committees of which I hope to continue in the years to come with your support for me this coming year as your elected Delegate. I ask for your support and vote for the office of President and Delegate in the upcoming club elections. Thank you, Cheryl Black Hansen I have been Vice President for the Mother Lode Arabian Horse Assoc. this year. My husband Steve and I have been Arabian breeders for 33 years. During that time, we have seen our membership and participation decline. It is my mission to encourage new enthusiasts to get involved in all aspects of our wonderful Arabians. This year I have worked on our Fuzzy Wuzzy show, Horse Expo in the Region 3 booth, a Trial Trials clinic (which had to be canceled) and our Trail Trials. I also attend Class A shows to meet people and encourage new memberships to our club. My name is Charleene Naughton, your current Mother Lode Arabian Horse Secretary and I m running for Secretary again as well as Delegate. I ve been involved with numerous aspects of the Arabian Horse community for more than 34 years and a member of Mother Lode for at least 30 of those. I ve been involved in various Mother Lode functions, such as, Fuzzy Wuzzy Show and Trail trials and some of you have probably seen me handing out ribbons. Over the years I held various positions within the club such as Member of the Board, Secretary, Vice President and President. Also, sub ed as a delegate on occasion and the list goes on. I haven t shown any of my horses for a number of years, however, the Sport Horse & Reining look interesting. I am the current Treasurer of the Mother Lode Arabian Horse Association and I am running for re-election. I am also running for Delegate. From my first horse in 1978 Arabians have been my breed of choice. In 1983 I was hired by Brumarba Arabian Stud and worked for Bruce Clark and Gerry Alexander from 1983 until they sold the ranch in the fall of During my Brumarba years I had the privilege to be around some of the great stallions of the breed, such as Barich de Washoe and Simeon Shai. I also foaled out the mares, assisted with the breeding, organized the annual Picnic, traveled to shows (including Spain and France), raised my daughter (adopted from Mexico at age 10), and put lots of NATRC miles on my gelding. As Brumarba closed down I had the opportunity arise to work for the Western States Horse Expo. I was involved in the running of the first horse expo in 1999 and worked there for fourteen years. I was the Show Manager and was responsible for many facets of organizing this event, including handling all the payables and receivables. I am in the process now of looking for a new position. I am certified in Event Management and have a Business Certificate. I am proficient in Quickbooks, can make up budgets, reconcile bank accounts, prepare accounting reports, etc. I have been involved in Mother Lode as a participant for several years; showing at the Fuzzy Wuzzy and Trail Trails. I was the chair for the Fuzzy Wuzzy in 2011 and for the Trail Trials in 2012 and I have been able to get many sponsors for our events and organized raffles at Fuzzy Wuzzy and the Christmas party. My gelding, Suncatcher SMF and I show in western pleasure, the new western dressage classes and enjoy riding the trails. Gerry and I also have 5 other horses at the small ranch we share. The Arabian horse is my passion. I am completely dedicated to promoting the Arabian and will continue to work to that effect if I am re-elected. I feel that I have done a good job as Treasurer this past year and am qualified for the position of Treasurer and Delegate as stated by my qualifications above. Thank you, Jean Zabriskie
7 Page 7 I, Dorothee Moss, would like to serve on the Board of Directors for MLAHA. I ve been a MLAHA member for 8 years and previously served on the board from 2006 to My involvement with the club includes assisting with club events, working with the club s Mother Lode Young Riders youth group, and most recently the reintroduction of the club s High Point Program. I have a personal interest in the Arabian horse breed and I m very interest in promoting the breed through the club. My daughters and myself own several Arabian horses. Over the past years we ve been showing our horses at Arabian breed and also open shows. Please consider giving me your vote for a MLAHA Board of Directors position. Thank you, Dorothee Moss My name is Nancy Clark, and I appreciate being considered for a position on the Board of the Mother Lode Arabian Horse Association. I have had a passion for the Arabian Horse for as long as I have memories. I have been a member of AHA since 1985 and MLAHA since My experience with horses has gone from stall cleaner, trail guide, managing a rental string to show groom, assistant trainer, running camps for kids, giving lessons, owner, breeder and advocate. I have been a Veterinary Technician for 27 years. However, in all those years, I never attended a MLAHA meeting until about 3 months ago. Why? I never felt like anyone would be interested in what I had to say. This is a club that has been around for a long time, blessed to be smack in the middle of an enormous horse (and Arabian Horse!) population...yet we still seem to be a small club without an active membership. Instead of complaining and questioning any longer, I decided to get involved. Perhaps I can motivate others to do the same. Maybe there are members out there (like me) that don't know how or why they should get involved. Ultimately, I hope to share my absolute love for this breed of horse with others, welcome new people to the club and breed, and bring long-time members back into active participation. My husband Ken and I have been breeding Arabians in the Placerville area for over 25 years. We enjoy trail riding and limited performance and halter showing, but we love the babies. I have been president of the Northern California Egyptian Breeders organization, now defunct, and was the regional director for the Pyramid Society for many years. For the past 6 years, I have been on the board of directors of the Silver Sire Breeders, Inc., and designed and maintain their website. Finally, a few months ago I assumed the editorship of our MLAHA monthly newsletter,. Thank you for your consideration of my nomination.

Sandy reports, It was pretty exciting! We are all excited for you, Sandy, good job! Mother Lode member Jean Zabriskie writes: I participated in the new division of Western Dressage at the DAHA Fall Arabian show the last weekend of September. My gelding, Suncatcher SMF (Sunny) and I came home with two blue ribbons, so I was thrilled. I look forward to competing in these classes next year. I know exactly what to work on (because of the judge s comments), such as my circles need to be rounder with no straight edges! I feel that I can train for these classes on my own and not need to have my horse with a trainer. It is a wonderful partnership bond to get the movement down pat and have a great comment (such as great bend!). Now I know what I will be working on all winter to be ready for a great show season next year. I strongly encourage Arabian owners to support this new division next year.
