Sunshine Lady Ruth Malone Newsletter Cathy Kelley Couple of the Year 2017 Chris & Marge Nagel Ride Coordinator Shane Patishnock Greetings from our Chapter Directors Judy & Shane Patishnock Wow August has been a month of non-stop FUN chapter events!! Many of us supported numerous fire house challenges (breakfasts, chicken bbqs, and even sub and jam sales!), visited our friends at MD-J s monthly gathering, held our own motorist awareness and our recruitment events, and ate some great meals and enjoyed some ice cream. Several of us attended the annual Herr s Bike Night, some took the free tour through the Herr s factory and most of us bought food tickets which supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and we looked at a lot of awesome bikes that were entered into the bike competition. In addition, both Bob and Julie Ahearn, MD-L, District Trainers, very graciously gave up their free time to come to our house where Julie provided CPR/Medic 1 st Aid to our members. A great big THANK YOU to both Bob and Julie Ahearn for doing this for us!!! We also held our annual chapter picnic and approximately 26 members/family members attended!! A great big THANK YOU goes to Wendy Mack for pulling the picnic/pool party together for us and to her brother, Kevin, and his wife, Betty. Kevin and Betty very graciously gave permission for us to use their pool, pavilion, and facilities to hold our picnic and pool party!! If you didn t make any of these events, then you really missed out on the camaraderie and FUN with your fellow GWRRA members! MD-H Chapter Meeting 4 th Sunday at Golden Corral, 706 S. Philadelphia Blvd., Aberdeen, MD Breakfast at 0800; Meeting at 0900

2 Moving right along Summer is going quickly and Fall is right around the corner! However while this year is going fast, we still have a lot of upcoming events that you can attend, either by 2-, 3-, or 4-wheels! So be sure to mark your calendar so you don t miss out on our FUN events! Don t forget that we re still looking for someone willing to step up to be our Chapter Director! Last month we had indicated that Fran was also stepping down but she has since said that she would be willing to stay on as Chapter Treasurer but we do need a Chapter Director. Also Kevin has also indicated that he might be willing to stay on as Assistant Chapter Director (ACD) if needed. So if you re thinking about possibly stepping up, let us know, Shane and I would be happy to discuss the position and provide our support to you. MD-H is waiting for YOU to take it over! Last but not least, remember to mark your calendar with our Upcoming September Activities! Take a look at the Breaking News for September s Gathering later in the newsletter!! Chapter H needs YOUR SUPPORT to make all our events (riding, training, charity) successful and FUN! Also mark your calendar for the Save the Dates events. Looking forward to seeing y all at our upcoming events! Also remember 10 Dec (Sun): MD-H Holiday Party, cocktails 1pm, 2pm, Bayou Restaurant, HdG ( ). Greetings from our Rider Educator Rodney Malone Ride Prepared, Be Safe and Have Fun! Greetings All! As discussed during the recent chapter gathering, we have a few members who will be moving up in the levels program as they have actively sought out and completed necessary training and other requirements to advance to their next level. Congratulations and great work to Kevin Paul and Paul & Carol Breeden. I am providing some information below regarding the various levels and the requirements for your awareness in case there are others who might be interested in advancing upward in the levels program. Level I: Safety by Commitment is also referred to as Safe Miles. It represents the commitment of the Rider and/or the Co- Rider to practice safe motorcycle operation whenever they operate their motorcycle. Safety is a state of mind which can only be attained through total commitment. Every successful accomplishment begins with a commitment to reach the intended objective. This is true of the Rider Education Program and includes a promise to learn for the sake of Rider, Co-Rider, friends and family, and others on the road. Though there is no mileage requirement to enter Level I, the commitment to safe riding is tracked by the number of accident free miles since joining GWRRA. Accident free miles are accumulated in 5,000 mile increments and may be updated at yearly intervals. Rider/Co-Rider Requirements: 1. Be a current GWRRA member and the expressed commitment of the Rider and/or Co- Rider to strive for and practice safe riding. They are encouraged to display these patches as an outward sign of that commitment. 2. Submit completed Rider Education Program Levels Application Form (Form N.7), along with optional patch fee to a GWRRA Officer for verification

4 Enrollment is free. Patches are available at $6.00 FOR EACH PARTICIPANT. With your purchase you will receive ONE SAFE MILES PATCH, either a RIDER or CO-RIDER ROCKER and a Safe Miles pin if applicable. Level II: Safety by Education is also referred to as Tour Rider. It represents the commitment of the Rider and/or CoRider to be safer motorcycle riders by taking approved motorcycle riding courses at regular intervals. GWRRA has chosen several educational training programs for the Riders and Co-Riders such as GWRRA Rider Courses and Sanctioned PLP programs, the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) programs, the CSC (Canadian Safety Council) programs, and other approved programs. Rider Requirements: 1. Be a current GWRRA member 2. Be enrolled in Level I of the Rider Education Levels Program and have 5,000 safe miles (8,100 km) 3. Have a current motorcycle license endorsement as required in the member s home state/province 4. Have completed an approved Rider course within the past three years or a sanctioned PLP within the last year Co-Rider Requirements: 1. Be a current GWRRA member 2. Be enrolled in Level I of the Rider Education Levels Program and have 5,000 safe miles (8,100 km) 3. Have completed an approved Two-Up Rider course or GWRRA Co-Rider seminar within the past three years 4. Submit a completed Rider Education Program Levels Application Form (Form N.7), along with optional patch fee to a GWRRA Officer for verification Enrollment is free. Patches are available at $5.00 FOR EACH PARTICIPANT. With your purchase you will receive either a Rider or Co-Rider triangle patch. Level III: Safety by Preparedness is also referred to as Certified Tour Rider/Co-Rider. It represents the commitment of the Rider and/or Co-Rider to be prepared in the event of an accident to give aid and possibly save lives. This is done by being knowledgeable in First Aid or CPR and carrying a first aid kit on their motorcycle at all times. It would be wonderful if we could achieve the coveted goal of zero accidents, however, we know realistically, accidents will happen. Because of this, it is important to be fully prepared to lend aid to unfortunate accident victims. It is important to always be prepared to save a life. Level III of the Rider Education Program was developed to deal with such circumstances by recognizing and encouraging proper First Aid or CPR training. CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), has been used to save many lives. Being trained to render CPR or First Aid is a tremendous asset to those the REP participant will come in contact with daily. Rider/Co-Rider Requirements: 1. Be a current GWRRA member 2. Be enrolled and current in Level II of the Rider Education Levels Program, having taken a formal approved Rider Course (a sanctioned PLP is not allowed to be used for this Level) 3. Attend a Motorist Awareness Seminar 4. Maintain current First Aid or CPR or MEDIC FIRST AID certifications 5. Carry a First Aid kit on the motorcycle 6. Submit a completed Rider Education Program Levels Application Form (Form N.7), along with optional patch fee to a GWRRA Officer for verification Enrollment is free. Patches are available at $4.00 FOR EACH PARTICIPANT. With your purchase you will receive either a TOUR RIDER or CO-RIDER patch. Level IV: Safety By Enhanced Commitment and Preparedness is the most prestigious level within the Rider Education Levels Program and is referred to as Master Tour Rider/Co-Rider. It represents the highest level of commitment by the Rider and/or Co-Rider toward safe riding and preparedness. This commitment is shown by a demonstrated history of safe miles, continuing education and current certification in both First Aid and CPR. These Master Tour Riders/Co-Riders are the finest example to everyone, of the highest level of commitment to safe motorcycle operation and preparedness. Level IV of the Rider Education Levels Program, the Master Tour Rider, was designed for those special caring individuals who desire to "be all they can be" with regards to motorcycle safety. The requirements are more stringent than Level III and require a greater commitment. These individuals are caring, trained and prepared with the experience to back them up. It is realized Level IV is not for everyone, but for those who desire to be of greater service to their fellow man, it is the correct prescription. Rider Requirements: 1. Be a current GWRRA member 2. Be a participant in Level III of Rider Education Levels Program and have been current in Level III for at least one full year 3. Have ridden a minimum of 25,000 safe miles (40,500 km) 4. Be current in both First Aid and CPR and/or MEDIC FIRST AID certifications 5. Wear proper riding apparel at all times while riding 6. Submit a completed Master Tour Rider/Co-Rider Application Form (Form N.9) with written recommendation from the Chapter Educator or other validating GWRRA Officer along with the appropriate fee to the Regional Educator Co-Rider Requirements: 1. Be current GWRRA member 2. Be a participant in Level III of Rider Education Levels Program and have been current in Level III for at least one full year 3. Have ridden a minimum of 25,000 safe miles (40,500 km). 4. Be current in both First Aid and CPR certifications 5. Wear proper riding apparel at all times while riding 6.
