Brian Bock, Matt Confort,...Sonny Round, Cory Scheuerle LAST TIME OUT Entering the game with just two goals on the season, senior Brian Bock recorded three goals and an assist to lead the Leopards to a thrilling 8-7 victory over Monmouth on Tuesday evening at Fisher Stadium. With the game tied at seven and 45 seconds to play, Jason Sands worked a defender down the right side and got the ball across the face of goal to Eric Joseph on the other side of the circle. Joseph worked his way into the middle and finished past Garrett Conaway for the gamewinner. DEFENSIVE STAND Sophomore Erik Cannon continues to lead the Patriot League and with 2.10 caused turnovers per game. That mark is also the fifth most in the country. 2 Lafayette Leopards 2015 Game Notes SANDS SETTING UP Lafayette sophomore attackman Jason Sands currently fifth in the Patriot League in assists per game, with The sophomore leads the team with 29 points, registering 11 goals and 18 assists. His helper on Tuesday night led to the game-winning goal with less than a minute to play. In his first career start, Cortese picked up his first win, making 10 saves on 33 shots faced, while allowing just five goals. Cortese leads the Patriot League with saves per game. On Tuesday, Ben Falcone got the nod in goal making 11 saves in an 8-7 win over Monmouth. LEOPARDS ON THE ATTACK Eric Joseph paces the team in scoring, tallying a team-high 17 goals this season. Joseph is also second on the team in assists (5) and points (22). Jason Sands has 11 markers this season, followed by Robert Orazietti with nine goals. Morgan Westby has eight goals and two assists, while Kevin Lewis has tallied six goals and three helpers. AT THE FACEOFF X The Leopards have used a platoon system at the faceoff x this season. Three players have won at least 10 faceoffs this season. Sean Thomas has won the most draws with 31-of-95, followed by Jack McMahon going 24-for-58 at the x. CLASS OF 2015 Prior to today s game, Lafayette will honor its four seniors, Cory Scheuerle, Sonny Round, Matt Confort and Brian Bock for their commitment to the Lafayette men s lacrosse program. Scheuerle has tallied 23 goals and seven assists, while Round has scored 49 goals and 27 assists for the Leopards. Bock leads the group with 59 goals and 38 assists in his career. Confort has played in ever game over the last four years, grabbing 36 ground balls and causing 13 turnovers. LEGENDS OF LACROSSE At halftime of today s game, Lafayette will honor Jud Linville 79 and Tom Perini 11 as Legends of Lafayette Lacrosse. Linville was a standout on the men s lacrosse team from , and served as the team captain during his senior season, when the team posted a Lafayette-record nine wins. Perini was a two-time All-Patriot League selection during his time on College Hill and ranks fifth in League history with 127 career goals. WHAT S NEXT? The Leopards host NJIT on Tuesday night in the team s final home game of the season at 7:30 p.m. Lafayette will travel to Ridley High School in Folsom, Pa. next Saturday night for the Relentless Cup versus Bucknell at 7 p.m. Lafayette vs. Holy Cross

3 Game Recaps STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Lafayette men s lacrosse team opened the 2015 season with a 10-5 victory over Wagner on the road. The Leopards used a 3-0 third quarter to pull away from the Seahawks. A balanced Lafayette attack was led by Sonny Round s two goals. Robert Orazietti and Morgan Westby each tallied a goal and an assist. Matthew Cortese picked up his first career win in his first career start making 10 saves for the Leopards. Defensively, Erik Cannon and Matt Confort each caused two turnovers, and Cannon led the team with a game-high five ground balls. The Leopards opened the scoring in the first minute, as Scott McAvoy tallied his first career. Wagner tied the game at one at the 10-minute mark of the first quarter and the teams went into the first intermission knotted at one. Round took a pass from Jason Sands early in the second period, giving Lafayette a 2-1 advantage. The Seahawks answered with a tally midway through the stanza, but Eric Joseph s goal with four minutes left in the half sent Lafayette into the half with a 3-2 lead. Lafayette took advantage of an extra man opportunity early in the third quarter, as Westby fired a shot into the cage. With six minutes to go in the period, Orazietti found a cutting Brendan Dunlap who beat the Wagner goalie to make it a 5-2 Lafayette lead. Brian Bock tallied the third goal of the frame with 3:04 on the clock and the Leopards took a 6-2 advantage into the final quarter. Orazietti pushed the Lafayette lead to five with a marker early in the fourth period. Wagner used a three-goal spurt midway through the quarter to cut the deficit to two, 7-5. Mac Gallagher broke the drought with 4:21 to play, and Round and Matt Close added insurance goals, as Lafayette walked away with a 10-5 win. HAMILTON, N.Y. - Eric Joseph tallied four goals and Robert Orazietti added a hat trick for Lafayette, but No. 20 Colgate held off the Leopards second half comeback in a setback on Saturday afternoon. The Leopards moved to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in Patriot League play, while the Raiders improved to 3-0 this season and 1-0 in conference action. Jason Sands handed out a game-high five assists for the Leopards. Matt Cortese made 18 saves in a losing effort for Lafayette. Colgate jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the opening minutes of the first period. Sonny Round tallied for the Leopards at the 8:09 remaining in the quarter to trim the deficit to two. The Raiders scored the final four goals of the frame to take a 7-1 lead after the first quarter. The teams exchange goals in the second quarter, as Joseph fired home a pass from Sands with 3:13 to go in the half. Colgate maintained its six-goal lead, 8-2, into the halftime break. Kevin Lewis opened the scoring in the third quarter, scoring on a pass from Joseph with 8:22 on the clock. Less than a minute later, Sands found Brian Bock for another Lafayette goal, pulling the Leopards to within four, 8-4. Colgate answered with a tally off the ensuing faceoff, but Lafayette s Orazietti countered with 6:30 to play in the quarter. Two in a row from the Raiders with four minutes left in the third period extended the deficit to Lafayette scored the next two to close out the frame, as Joseph tallied his second of the contest, followed by Orazietti s second marker as time expired to make it 11-7 going into the fourth. Colgate s Ryan Walsh netted the first goal of the final period with 14:48 on the clock to open a five-goal margin for the Raiders. 4 Lafayette Leopards 2015 Game Recaps WEST POINT, N.Y. - Jason Sands tallied a pair of goals, but No. 9 Army pulled away in the second half in a 14-3 setback for the Leopards. Matt Cortese made 13 saves for Lafayette in the loss. Lafayette moved to 1-2 this season and 0-2 in Patriot League play, while Army improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference action. The Black Knights were led by John Glesener s four goals and one assist. Army jumped out to an early 2-0 lead five minutes into the first quarter. The Black Knights extended the advantage to 4-0 late in the period. Lafayette s Mac Gallagher took a feed from Brian Bock to trim the deficit to 4-1 at the end of the first. Midway through the second period, Army increased its lead to 5-1. Sands tallied his first goal of the season at the 6:31 mark to trim the spread to three. After another Army marker, Sands netted his second of the contest to send the Leopards into the locker room down, 6-3. Army s John Glesener tallied three straight goals to open the third period, giving the Black Knights a 9-3 advantage. Army tallied two more in the frame and three in the fourth to take down the Leopards, Erik Cannon led the Leopards with five ground balls, while Charles McCooe Brendan Dunlap each caused two turnovers for Lafayette. EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette men s lacrosse team used a second half rally, scoring four straight goals to tie the game at six in the fourth quarter, but Penn tallied three goals in the final 7:33 to push past the Leopards, 9-6 on a snowy Tuesday afternoon. Jason Sands netted a pair of goals and handed out an assist to lead the Leopards (1-3). Matthew Cortese made 12 saves in the setback, while Erik Cannon and Charles McCooe each caused two turnovers to power the defense. Penn (3-2) was led by Chris Moriarty with three goals and Joe McCallion with two goals and two assists. Sands opened the scoring with 8:18 left in the first quarter, netting his third goal of the season. The Quakers closed out the scoring in the frame to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Eric Joseph s team-leading sixth goal of the season tied the game at two in the second period, but three straight from Penn to end the first half sent the Quakers into the half with a 5-2 advantage. McCallion s second marker of with 14:12 to play in the third quarter pushed the deficit to 6-2. Sands second goal of the game came midway through the third period was the final goal of the frame, and the Leopards trailed 6-3 heading into the fourth quarter. Lafayette came out flying in the final stanza with Morgan Westby netting his second goal of the season just over a minute into the period. Two minutes later Westby found Robert Orazietti, who fired a rocket into the Penn cage to pull the Leopards within a goal, 6-5. Cory Scheuerle finished off a pass from Brian Bock with 10:35 to play to knot the game at six. 5 Game Recaps EASTON, Pa. - A strong first half from Navy was too much for Lafayette to overcome on Tuesday night in Fisher Stadium, as the Mids took down the Leopards in Patriot League men s lacrosse action. Lafayette (1-4, 0-3 PL) was led by Scott McAvoy with a pair of goals and Jason Sands with a goal and an assist. Matt Cortese made 11 saves in the loss, while Erik Cannon led the defense with four caused turnovers. Navy (4-3, 2-1 PL) won 17-of-25 faceoffs on its way to an 18-4 win. T.J. Hanzsche and Kevin Wendel netted hat tricks for the Mids, while Patrick Keena tallied two goals and three assists in the game. John Connors made six saves to pick up the win. The Midsbuilt an 11-goal lead midway through the second quarter before McAvoy found the back of the net for the Leopards. The Mids went into the half with a 14-1 advantage. Out of the halftime break, Lafayette took advantage of a man-up situation when Morgan Westby found Sands for his fifth goal of the season. Five minutes later, Eric Joseph s solo effort produced another Lafayette marker at the 7:09 mark of the third period. Sands collected his team-leading 10th assist of the year when he found McAvoy for his second tally of the night. Navy added two more in the final ten minutes to walk away with the win. Lafayette s man-down defense, which ranked third nationally going into tonight s game, was solid throughout the night. The Leopards held the Mids to just one extra-man goal on six attempts. BOSTON, Mass. - The Leopards fell on the road on Saturday afternoon to Boston University in a Patriot League contest. Lafayette s Kevin Lewis netted a pair of goals and an assist to lead the attack. The Maroon and White moved to 1-5 overall this season, while the Terriers improved to 5-2. Erik Cannon scored his first goal of the season and also led the defense with a pair of ground balls and two caused turnovers. Eric Joseph added a goal and an assist for the Leopards. Matt Cortese made 12 saves in the setback. Pat Myers led Boston with three goals and three assists, while Christian Carson improved to 5-2 making five saves in the win. Lafayette jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with tallies from Orazietti and Erik Cannon in the opening two and a half minutes. Boston scored the next three goals to take a 3-2 advantage with three minutes to go in the first quarter. The Terriers added another in the final seconds of the period to go into the break ahead 4-2.BU continued its run throughout the second quarter and took a 12-2 lead into the half. Lewis opened the second half scoring at the 13:16 mark of the third quarter on a feed from Morgan Westby. 6 Lafayette Leopards 2015 Game Recaps Game 11 FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Jason Sands tallied a hat trick and two assists, but the Lafayette men s lacrosse team fell at Sacred Heart, 14-11, on Tuesday afternoon. Lafayette (1-6) cut the deficit to two goals late in the game, but Sacred Heart (3-2) was able to hold on for the win. Eric Joseph finished with a pair of goals and an assist, while Morgan Westby and Sonny Round chipped in two goals apiece. The Pioneers were led by Brian Masi with a game-high five goals. The Leopards opened the scoring five minutes into the contest with a tally from Joseph. Sacred Heart countered with the next three goals to build a 3-1 lead late in the first quarter. Westby scored his first of the afternoon to make it 3-2 with 23 seconds to go in the opening period, but a marker from the Pioneers in the closing seconds gave Sacred Heart a 4-2 advantage at the end of one. After a Pioneer goal to start the second quarter, Robert Orazietti found the back of the cage, followed by Sands first of the game at the 12:12 mark to make it 5-4. Sacred Heart tallied the next three goals to take a four-goal lead, 8-4. Round s first marker of the night cut the deficit to three at halftime. Sacred Heart broke the Lafayette spurt, but another dish from Sands to Joseph brought the spread back to two, After the Pioneers bumped the margin back to three, Round tallied his second of the afternoon with 4:30 to play in the third quarter. A goal from Sacred Heart gave the Pioneers a 12-9 lead at the end of three quarters. A tally from Sacred Heart with 10:31 to play pushed the Pioneer advantage to four, At the 5:25 mark, Westby found the back of the net. Sands completed his hat trick in the final minute to make it 13-11, but a late marker from Masi sent the Pioneers to a win over the Leopards. Westby tallied his first goal of the contest two minutes into the second quarter to push the Lafayette lead to 4-1. Westby netted his second goal of the game on a pass from Sands after a Greyhound goal to make it 5-2 with nine minutes to play in the half. Loyola rallied midway through the second quarter. The Greyhounds scored four goals in three minutes to take their first lead of the contest, 6-5, with 5:39 to play in the second period. The run continued as Loyola pushed the deficit to 9-5 late in the half. Lewis stopped the spurt with a marker at the 15 second mark of the second quarter, and the Leopards went into the half trailing, 9-6. The Greyhounds tallied the first three goals of the third quarter to increase their advantage to Lewis completed his hat trick midway through the frame on a pass from Orazietti to trim the lead to five. Loyola tallied to close the third quarter and then took advantage of a man-up opportunity early in the fourth period to take a 14-7 lead. With a man-up opportunity, Sands found Westby, as the junior completed his hat trick early in the fourth. The Leopards followed that with another goal 50 seconds later. 7 Game Recaps BALTIMORE, Md. - UMBC used a strong third quarter to pull away and take down Lafayette in non-league men s lacrosse action on Friday night. Eric Joseph led the Leopards (1-8) with a pair of goals, while Jason Sands chipped in a goal and an assist in the loss. The Retrievers improved to 4-5, and were led by Pat Young with a game-high five goals. UMBC opened the scoring at the 10:41 mark of the first quarter, taking advantage of a man-up opportunity. Two minutes later, the Leopards got on the board to tie the game at one on Morgan Westby s eighth goal of the season. The Retrievers tallied two goals to close out the first period, heading into the break with a 3-1 lead. Robert Orazietti took a feed from Sands early in the second period to trim the deficit to one. A two-goal spurt from UMBC sent the Retrievers into halftime with a 5-2 edge. The UMBC run continued in the second half as the Retrievers scored the first five markers of the third period to push their lead to eight. Sonny Round slowed the streak with a goal at the 7:40 mark of the third period, but UMBC continued to control and ended the quarter with a 12-3 advantage. After a UMBC goal to start the final period, Joseph found the back of the net for his first goal of the night. The Retrievers tallied the next two to increase the deficit to Sands scored his lone goal of the contest, taking advantage of a man-up situation midway through the fourth. 24 seconds later, Joseph netted his second to make it a 10-goal game. Joseph worked his way into the middle and finished past Garrett Conaway for the gamewinner as the Leopards won the ensuing faceoff and ran out the clock on an 8-7 win. After a slow-paced first quarter that left both sides knotted at one goal apiece, a tally from the Hawks Dylan Schulte put Monmouth in front by one at the 10:58 mark of the second. However, back-to-back from Bock, followed by another Mac Gallagher, made up a three-goal run to end the half with the Maroon and White in front, 4-2. Joseph opened the second-half scoring, finishing a feed from Bock at the 13:22 mark of the third to continue a four-goal run for Lafayette. Six minutes later, Monmouth s Bryce Wasserman ended the run with an unassisted marker, but Will McCarthy netted his first career goal just 12 seconds later to stifle any possible momentum shift and give the Leopards a 6-3 advantage with seven minutes to play in the third quarter. Monmouth s Chris Daly netted his second of the night to open the final quarter of play, cutting the Lafayette lead to two at 6-4 with 14 minutes remaining. Five minutes later, Wasserman found the back of the net to help Monmouth pull within one for the first time since 3-2 and another from the Monmouth freshman tied it up at six with 7:03 to play. Matthew Cortese suffered the loss, making five saves, while Ben Falcone and Henry Vido each saw action in the cage. Ruston Souder made 17 saves for the Retrievers in the win. Lafayette held a advantage in shots, but were 1-for-6 on man-up opportunities. UMBC scored on 3-of-4 man-up situations in the game. The Hawks kept rolling three minutes later as Daly gave Monmouth its first lead since the Schulte goal at the beginning of the second quarter, up 7-6 with 4:11 left.
