1 IRONMAN France-Nice Rules Preamble IRONMAN France-Nice, rganised under the aegis f the FFTRI, cmplies with ITU regulatins. Nevertheless, each triathln has its wn particularities. Cnsequently, this regulatin is specific t the IRONMAN France Nice. The athlete is respnsible t read fully the regulatin f the race and t spt the particularities f the IRONMAN Nice. General 1. Each athlete undertakes t respect all the aspects f the regulatin. It is the respnsibility f the athlete t knw the race briefing (briefing available nline n the website f the event and during the Welcme Dinner n Friday befre the race at 7:00pm in the Park Phenix). 2. In the case f ne pint missing, the rules f natinal bards where the race takes place shall apply. 3. Each athlete is respnsible fr his/her wn intermediate and end time registratin. The timing chip must be wrn thrughut the entire race arund the left ankle. 4. In case f lss r malfunctining f the timing chip, he athlete is respnsible t get a new chip at: - At the start f the swim, at the bttm f the Centenary ramp - In T1 and T2, clse t the penalty bx 5. Start numbers and race stickers may nt be reduced in size r altered AND must be visible at all times. Start numbers can be wrn n a race belt and the number must be secured t this belt at a minimum f three pints. The belt must placed at the lwest level f the waist. Any ther psitin f the belt culd be an issue f cnfrmity in accrdance t the Stp and G prcedure.

2 6. The cmpetitrs must take race prvisins nly at the designated aid statins prvided by the rganizers and nt frm a third. 7. Frm Check-in t Check-ut nly athletes, fficials, dctrs, rescue and security staff, referees, and accredited jurnalists are allwed t enter the transitin area and the bike park. 8. The athletes receive in their Race package : One ATHLETE wristband: will be COMPULSORY fixed t the athlete s wrist by a vlunteer during the registratin n spt. The athlete must cnstantly wear this wristband. One Bike sticker: must be COMPULSORY fixed n the seatpst f yur bike. One sticker t stick n the bike helmet (in frnt) Three stickers t stick n transitin bags Tw tats t stick n calf and left arm. One tatt t stick n the swim cap Tw bibs (start numbers) 9. On Sunday mrning, day f the race, the mdificatins f the wheels are frbidden. 10. Material prizes which are nt cllected during the Awards Ceremny are frfeited. 11. The rganizers reserve the right t reject applicatins fr reasns imprtant t them. 12. Cmpetitrs disqualified because f evident fraud will nt be allwed t start in an IRONMAN race in Eurpe fr the fllwing tw years. 13. Cmpetitrs MUST respect rules and be respectful with marshals, vlunteers, spectatrs and rganizers during alng the race week, frm the registratin t the Heres night.

3 14. Cmpetitrs MUST respect ec-znes fr thrwing away their waste (any wastes in any case). Any cups, bttles, packaging waste and thers varius wastes thrwn utside ec-znes set up by the rganizatin is frbidden and punishable (red card). 15. The athlete must REFUSE any utside help: supprt, supplies, technical assistance and material supprt by anyne utside f the race r anther cmpetitr. The athlete shuld nt let all r a part f his equipment utside the transitin area r fixed pints set up by the rganizatin. Curse Swim curse: Length 3.8 Km; tw lps : 2.4km + 1.4km Bike curse: Length 180 Km ; ne lp Run Curse: Length Km; 4 laps n the Prmenade des Anglais Start 1. T g n the startline, yu MUST g dwn the ramp called Rampe du Centenaire, with yur chip attached t the left ankle. D nt crss the startline befre the start has been dne. 2. The swim warm-up has t take place in frnt f the departure line between 6.00 and 6.15 am. 3. Athletes have t respect the instructins f the marshals cncerning the set up and the start psitins. 4. Swim 1. Shuld a swim nt be pssible due t weather cnditins (thunder strm, etc.), the race shall be cnducted as a Bike & Run. The curse fr the bike and run curse shall nt be altered.

4 2. It is permitted t swim in a wet-suit up t a water temperature 24.6 C. The wetsuit must be taken ff nly in the transitin tent. The athlete him/herself must put it int the clthing bag. T avid the mixing up r lss f the wetsuit please write yur name n the wetsuit. The rganizatin cannt be held respnsible fr lss f the wetsuit f the athlete. 3. In accrdance with ITU rules: - If the temperature is greater than r equal t 22 C, the neprene suit is prhibited fr "Pr" athletes (men and wmen). - If the temperature is abve r equal t 24.6 C, the neprene suit is prhibited fr all cmpetitrs in age grups. The athlete may wear a running utfit in additin f a "Skinsuit" style utfit that will be remved frm the water utlet. If the temperature When the use f wetsuits is frbidden, clthing cvering any part f the arms and clthing cvering any part f the legs belw the knees is als frbidden. Female athletes are allwed t wear a bra in additin t the afrementined utfits.4. Artificial material help like paddles, glves, bties, snrkel, fins, life jackets r ther fltatin materials are frbidden. 4. Only fficial bats and rescue bats are allwed n the race curse. 7. Athletes are nt permitted t wear their bibs during the swim. 8. It is nt allwed t take a shrt cut. 9. The athlete is nt allwed t walk r t have yur legs in cntact with the grund expect in the case f shallw water and is nt allwed taking supprt n a mving ship. 10. The athlete is nt allwed t give all r a part f his equipment t a third at the exit f the water.

5 11. Fr Age Grupers athletes start will be dne as a Rlling start. This frm f start invlves the creatin f 13 start znes, accrding t the expected swim time f each athlete. Here is the list f the 13 znes : - than 1h02, - than 1h06, - than 1h08, - than 1h10, - than 1h12, - than 1h14, - than 1h16, - than 1h18, - than 1h20, - than 1h24, - than 1h29, - than 1h45, mre than 1h45. Athletes will seed themselves int these znes. Grups will begin the rlling start based n these grups with fastest athletes n curse first. Athletes timing chips will activate nce they crss designated swim start timing mat. Cut-ff time fr the swim is 2h The 2 lps are made withut exit. Transitins 1. The bike helmet must be put int the BIKE bag. 2. The bike shes can be either in the BIKE bag r clipped nt the bike. 3. The athletes have t change f clthes nly in the transitin tent. Nudity is frbidden, peple wh want t get naked will necessarily have t access t ne f the tents prvided fr this purpse in the transitin area. One will be reserved fr wmen. 4. Fr the transitin Swim t Bike, Athletes have t take their bike equipment ut f the BIKE bag and pack away their swim clthes in this bag themselves. Fr the transitin Bike t Swim, Athletes have t take their run clthes ut f the RUN bag and pack away their bike equipment in this bag themselves. The rganizatin cannt be held respnsible fr lss f clthing r equipments f the athlete. 5. Athletes will have t place their bag in the DROP OFF zne (bxes) accrding t their bibs. 6. N access t transitin area (BIKE and RUN bags) n Sunday mrning befre the start. Bike Park 1. After the Check-in, n helmet can be left n the bike (helmet put in the BIKE bag). 2. During the Check-in yu can leave yur bike shes clipped n the bike.

6 3. The athletes must ride mstly n the right f the right side f the rad at all times. 4. Athletes have t get their bike frm the rack themselves. 5. Athletes have t fllw the sense f circulatin in the bike park. 6. Push yur bike t the bike park exit. Athletes are allwed t munt their bike nly after having left the bike park; until the line. 7. The athlete has t dismunt the bike befre he enters the bike park until the line. 8. On entering the bike park, athletes have t rack himself his bike n the place crrespnding t his race number (initial place). 9. In the bike park, the athlete must still g by ft, bike in hand, helmet n the head with the chinstrap clsed. 10. It is frbidden t use extensin at the entrance and at the exit f the bike park right t the Palais de la Méditerranée abut 800m and at the intersectin f Grenuillères (near Park Phenix) n abut 200m - Vigipirate plan narrw radway : 1m50 between cncrete blcks. Signs will be installed at the entrance and exit f the zne. 11. It is frbidden t cver his bike in the bike park.

7 Bike 1. Drafting is frbidden. 2. The athletes must ride mstly n the right f the right side f the rad at all times. 3. Athletes must respect the French Traffic Law and nt cut crners. 4. The minimum distance between the bikes is 12 m, measuring frm the frnt wheel f the bike in frnt t the frnt wheel f the bike at the back. Passing dn t have t be lnger than a perid f 25 secnds. If yu have t pass a grup, yu cannt cut this grup, yu MUST vertake all the grup, and yu have 25 t vertake each athlete. 5. A breach f this rule results in a blue card and a time penalty (5 minutes at IRONMAN). 6. If the athlete receives a blue card, he MUST stp at the next penalty bx t effectuate his penalty (blue card = 5 minutes 2 blue cards = 10 min. 3 blue cards = disqualificatin) and make sure that the marshall had ntified that yur penalty is dne n yur bibnumber. 7. There is 1 penalty bx n the bike curse, lcated at the Cl de l Ecre (km 70). An additinal penalty bx is lcated in the transitin area. If yu receive a blue card befre km70, yu MUST d yur penalty in the penalty bx lcated at the tp f the Cl de l Ecre. If yu receive a blue card after km70, yu MUST d yur penalty time at the penalty bx lcated in T2. 8. There will be ne designated aid statin n the bike curse where handling f special needs by supprt persnnel is permitted. It is frbidden t take the bag n the bike; the athlete must stp and take nly the cntents f the bag. If the athlete plans a special needs aid statin (bike and run), he is in charge f asking fr special needs bags at n spt race registratin. His race number will be marked immediately n the bags. The athlete will hand in his special needs bags n race day frm 5:00 t 6:15 at Fan Zne B entrance. Please use the bags exclusively fr special needs and nt fr valuables and clthing because THEY WILL BE THROWN AFTER THE RACE. The rganizer will nt take any respnsibility fr lst items. 9. Wearing a sanctined hard shell helmet with the chinstrap clsed is cmpulsry n the entire bike curse.

8 10. Each athlete must wear his/her start number perfectly visibly (nt flded, nt cut) n their back. Any mdificatin f that start number is strictly frbidden. 11. Athletes are allwed t repair their bikes nly with their wn. The rganizatin ffer a bike service at each Aid Statin where athletes can take tls and replacement parts fr small bike injuries. 12. The frame-start number must be fixed in such a way n the bike that it can be seen frm bth sides. Sticker may nt be reduced in size r altered. 13. The helmet number must be attached t the frnt f the helmet. Sticker may nt be reduced in size r altered. 14. Blcking rule: The vertaken athlete has t fall back the drafting distance as sn as the vertaking athlete s frnt wheel passes him t respect the distance. 15. When an athlete is vertaken by anther cmpetitr, the athlete being passed is respnsible fr reestablishing the distance allwed (12m). An athlete is vertaken when the frnt wheel f anther cmpetitr passes befre his wheel. 16. The athlete MUST respect wastes areas lcated 1 befre and 1 after each aid statin (ec-zne). Please respect this rule and cnsider that gels and bars papers are really plluting the nature. Yu can easily keep it with yu and thrw it when cming back t the transitin area. D nt respect this rule is punishable. 17. It is frbidden t race naked trs. 18. The athlete must nt use radi, cell phne, prtable camera, MP3 player, walkman r any ther audi equipment. Run / Caching 1. Caching is defined as supprt f an athlete during the race by acclamatin r shuting encuragement. Caching is generally allwed with the fllwing restrictins: It is nt permitted t use electrnic r ther amplifying devices. All ther frms f caching where the supprting persn mves with r passes the athlete (via vehicle, bicycle, inline skates, running, etc.) are nt permitted. A distance f 10m must be respect between the athlete and the supprting persn. Caching is permitted nly frm the side f the curse, meaning the caching persn is nt allwed t be n the race curse and/r mving with the athlete.

9 Athletes are nt allwed t accept accmpaniment r pace maker services by ft r vehicle. This als includes fllwing the athlete. Advice and infrmatin can be given by assistants nly n fixed pints. 2. It is frbidden t leave the run curse r take a shrt cut. 3. The start number must be perfectly visible and n the frnt f yur bdy. 4. Hair bands ( chuchus ) are distributed at each end f the lp t prve that the athletes passed the different lps; it s the athlete respnsibility t ensure he cllects the bands himself. Befre entering the finish line, the athlete must have cllected 3 chuchus (n chuchu fr the furth lp). 5. Running withut a tp (singlet, shirt) is frbidden. 6. The athlete must nt use radi, cell phne, prtable camera, MP3 player, walkman r any ther audi equipment. 7. The athlete MUST thrw his wastes in the ec-znes. D nt respect this rule is punishable. Finishline It is strictly frbidden t crss the Finishline with his/her child (children) r any third persn ut f the race. D nt respect this rule is punishable f a red card = disqualificatin. At less than 200m f the finishline, athletes have t clse the zipper f their trisuit.

10 Cut-ff times 1. Cut-ff fr the swim is 2:15 hurs (timing chip). 2. Cut-ff time fr the swim and bike split is 10:45 hurs (timing chip). 3. Split lime limits n the bike are : -1pm n the Cl de l Ecre (K70) - 3:30 pm n the turn in Saint Barnabé (K110). 4. Split limit time n the run: finish the 3 rd lap befre 9:30pm. 5. Cut-ff fr the cmplete race is 16:00 hurs. Anti-pllutin 1. The start f the swim n the beach must be taken bareft: sandals, flip-flps, etc are frbidden. 2. Thrwing away f any rubbish (papers, bttles, cups) utside f the dedicated ec znes is prhibited and will lead t a red card if the actin is dne intentinally and t a yellw card if the actin can be repaired.

11 Penalty card management The referees can shw red, yellw and blue cards. Receiving 3 blue cards invlve an immediate disqualificatin. 13 Prcedure warning / time penalty 1. The referee drives up t the athlete and calls his number. The card (red, black, yellw) is shwn accrdingly. When an athlete receives a red r black card, he must apprach the next penalty bx. If the athlete receives a blue card, he must stay 5 minutes in the penalty bx. If the athlete receives a red card, he is directly disqualified and must quit the race as sn as pssible. Waiting fr the end f race shuttle is the best way. Receiving mre than tw blue cards results in immediate disqualificatin. 2. It is in the athlete s wn respnsibility t apprach the next penalty bx and effectuate his penalty. The marshall ntes if the penalty is dne n bib number f the athlete. If the athlete receives a blue card befre the km 70 Cl de l Ecre, he MUST stp at the penalty bx lcated at the Cl de l Ecre. If the athlete receives a blue card after the km 70 Cl de l Ecre, he MUST stp at the penalty bx lcated in the transitin area. In any case, if the athlete misses his penalty befre beginning the running part, he will be disqualified. 3. If an athlete receives a yellw card n the run curse, he will have t d his penalty f 60 secnds in the Penalty Bx lcated at the end f each lap, just befre taking the bracelet. 4. ATTENTION: a referee can punish any fault at any time f the event. Official results The curt f arbitratin determines the final race results, subject t dping reprts still utstanding. The determined results are final. They are nt subject t appeal in a curt f law. Results n

14 In case f accident In case f accident between 2 athletes r with a car > if the athlete is nt injured, he must stay at the accident pint until the medical staff and/r plice arrives. Then the athlete nt injured will be asked t sign a dcument attesting that he is invlved in an accident and that he must cme t race ffice after the race t fill ut all papers fr insurance. He will als sign a dcument attesting that he wants t cntinue the race.
