INTRODUCTION (contd.) geria needs sustainable power for economic velopment. wer sector is billed to be one of the key neficiaries in the Nigeria Gas Master Plan. e Nigerian Electricity Industry is still undergoing majo forms aimed at creating sustainable power supply. wer sector demand account for 80% of gas supply Nigeria NGC NCOs operating thermal gas power plants are the nsumers of gas in the power value chain.

By 2020 gas is expected to contribute 44% nations energy mix SE4All, Nig. Electricity h Oct % of installed thermal capacity in Nigeria needs natural gas as fuel for power genera Natural gas is currently and is set to be a m fuel for Nigeria s economic growth. The Nigeria proven natural gas reserves as 2015 stands at approximately 5.28TCM or TCF - OPEC This is a huge opportunity for the thermal p plants and the Nigeria economy.

URRENT CHALLENGES TO GAS SUPPLY FOR THE NIGERIA POWER PLANTS ecuring gas to the thermal power plants is ne of the major challenges facing power eneration in Nigeria. as and power markets are very dynamic nd requires liquidity, flexibility and ransparency for it to function effectively. nfortunately this is hard to obtain in the igeria gas and power markets.
CURRENT CHALLENGES TO GAS SUPPLY FOR THE NIGERIA POWER PLANTS (Contd) ack of Investment by the IOCs due to gas ricing and payment regime in the country. as pipeline network limitations and ageing frastructure across the country andalism and sabotage of the gas pipelines onveying gas to the Power Plants. iquidity issues Lack of financial flow in the ga power value chain or markets.

CTICAL ACTIONS FOR SECURING GAS SUPPLY POWER STATIONS IN NIGERIA blishing an independent gas regulator to drive th or reasing the Nigeria gas exploration, production a sportation capacities by; reating a favourable gas business environment for both digenous companies and the IOCs nsuring guaranteed payment for gas to recoup vestment capital and guarantee return on investmen OI). Issuance of Letter of Credit to gas suppliers This may not be possible if the GENCOs who generate power are not been paid by the distribution companie power generated.
CTICAL ACTIONS FOR SECURING GAS SUPPLY POWER STATIONS IN NIGERIA (contd) omplete overhaul and rehabilitation of isting gas pipelines across the country. plementing the Nigeria gas master plan. This will ensure gas pipeline network and gas availability to the thermal power plants across the country. ecution of GSAA and GTA Agreements with gas ppliers.
CTICAL ACTIONS FOR SECURING GAS SUPPLY POWER STATIONS IN NIGERIA (contd) ackling liquidity issues by encouraging the ISCOs to pay for power transmitted to them so hat the GENCOs can then pay to their gas uppliers. ddressing issues arising from sabotage and andalism of gas pipeline.
