3 Strage - Transprt - Blending IBCs are widely used within the pharmaceutical manufacturing prcess as strage, transprt and blending vessels. Increasingly, with the intrductin f in-cntainer blending, IBCs are being used as prcess vessels fr blending applicatins. The Buck IBC is mre than just a cntainer. With technlgies such as the Blending Prism, the Vibrflw discharge device and the wrld leading Buck high-cntainment Split Butterfly Valve, cmmn issues such as difficult t blend materials, pr flwing prduct, and handling ptent materials all faced by pharmaceutical manufacturers are met and addressed. The Buck IBC is designed specifically fr the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare industries. With prduct cntact parts cnstructed frm 316L stainless steel, a range f finishes are available fr the internal and external surfaces f the IBCs. Mdern cnstructin techniques ensure accurate manufacturing tlerances are met with repeatable dimensinal accuracy. 2

4 The Buck IBC Pwder Handling Technlgy Cntainment Valves One imprtant feature f the Buck IBC is its wrld leading High Cntainment Split Butterfly Valve. The Buck Dcking System is the market leading split butterfly valve, and the C Passive Valve is fitted as standard t the utlet n the Buck IBC. With the new MC Mdular Cntainment Valve ffering further imprved cntainment levels, a range f cntainment valves is available t suit all applicatins. The valves can be fitted t the inlet f the IBC fr cntained filling, r an invertible design f the IBC allws filling thrugh the utlet valve. Fr mre details n the Buck Split Butterfly Valve, please refer t the Dcking Statin datasheet Vibrflw Discharge Technlgy An imprtant feature f any IBC System is its ability t discharge prduct frm the IBC in a reliable and repeatable manner. In an age where cntainment f a prduct and peratr safety is f majr imprtance, it is nt acceptable fr peratrs t intervene and pen the IBC t vercme blckages frm the IBC. The Vibrflw was designed t meet these needs. It is nw a prven discharge technlgy, having been thrughly tested by leading pharmaceutical manufacturers and installed successfully in a number f Primary API plants, as well as Secndary pharmaceuticals plants. The Vibrflw is munted within the IBC between the utlet flange f the IBC and Passive Valve. By applying vibratin t the valve, lw frequency vibratin is applied int the centre f the prduct bed, destrying the Keystne f the bridging prduct. The spiral design sends vibratins sideways thrugh the prduct bed, prmting mass flw f prduct. The vibratin is applied externally frm the Active Valve, s there are n wrking mechanisms within the prcess flw. Anther benefit f the Vibrflw is its ability t vercme the build up f vacuum within the IBC, which can be an issue fr larger vlume IBCs. The Vibrflw allws air t perclate thrugh the pwder bed and int the tp sectin f the IBC. This vercmes the build up f vacuum withut the need t vent the IBC frm the tp, which cmprmises the cntainment f the IBC. The Vibrflw is a mdular design, therefre it nly needs t be fitted t IBCs where the prcess demands it. Blending Prism The Prism has been develped t aid and imprve blending f mre difficult materials. The Prism adds lw shear mixing t the rtating IBC, adding t the turbulence f the tumbling prduct and imprving the time t hmgenusly blend prducts. When the IBC is laded int the blender, the Prism is rientated at right angles t the rtatin axis. As the IBC is rtated, the prduct is divided up by the Prism, and prduct is frced utwards t the crners f the IBC. The Prism is f particular benefit in dry blend prcesses, where IBC Blending is the key prcess step. Fr Dry Blending, r Direct Cmpressin prducts, the pwders can be mre chesive and have prer flw prperties. Dry pwders take nticeably lnger t blend in cmparisn t free flwing granular materials (fr example the dispersin f magnesium stereate int a granulated batch) which blend easily and within a relatively shrt perid f time. The Prism is fully welded int the cntainer bdy, and can be fully cleaned in place with the Buck Systems Wash Statin. Clean in Place An imprtant feature f any cntainment system is the preventin f peratr interventin. All Buck Systems IBCs are designed t be Cleaned in Place within the Buck Systems Wash Statin. The Passive Valves are a hygienic design and are munted n the inlet and utlet f the IBC in a manner that prevents any ingress f dust. Naturally, bth the Prism and the Vibrflw have been designed t allw full CIP.
