When a new girl, Lil, jins the team, Jasper thinks he's fund smene as bsessed with sccer as he is. But there's ne hitch - Lil's dad is the reasn Jasper's dad has lst his jb. In his life as a prfessinal sccer player, cmmentatr and her f the Beautiful Game, he believed sccer reflected life in the need t always d yur best, t be a gd human being and als in the highs and lws f success and disappintment. AUTHOR S INSPIRATION Debrah says: Befre starting t write Jasper Zammit, I knew very little abut sccer, but with Jhnny, SBS sccer cverage, lcal kids teams and lads f bks and websites, I ve cme t lve the game. When I first met Jhnny, he insisted that the Jasper bks had t shw sccer as a game f great skill and expertise but als as a game f great character and respect. Jhnny said the way yu handled yurself n the pitch was the way yu handled yurself as a human being. It is als a game f equality. It is the mst watched and played game in the wrld and is ften referred t as the Wrld Game... whever yu are, whether yu re rich r pr, frm the suburbs f Sydney r the favelas (slums) f Brazil, frm Asia, Eurpe r Russia... the game accepts everyne and unites a wrld in a way n ther single event can, even the Olympics. The 2006 Wrld Cup in Germany brke all recrds fr TV viewing with a cumulative audience f thirty billin peple! THEMES FIFA Fair Play Debrah says: The FIFA slgan, Fair Play, desn t just apply t the players; it applies t the caches, parents, spectatrs, media and assciatin fficials as well. Be fair every persn invlved in sccer has the respnsibility t respect the game and set the example. (Jhnny, Jasper Zammit bk 3 p. 151) Jhnny was a firm believer in Fair Play. He was cnstantly telling me hw imprtant the FIFA rules are t everyne assciated with sccer. When the rules f FIFA are respected and adhered t, then it is truly a beautiful game. FIFA is the wrld gverning bdy f ftball (sccer) but it s als active in prmting Fair Play beynd the sprt. Fair Play represents the psitive benefits f playing by the rules, using cmmn sense and respecting everyne. FIFA has set up alliances with UNICEF, WHO, ILO, UNHCR, SOS Children s Villages and thers, t link the pwer f ftball with the experience and ability f thse wh, day by day and side by side, are striving t make a better wrld. The mst htly debated tpics f ur times, such as equality, peace, children s rights, health, educatin and the envirnment, d nt escape the attentin f FIFA. The fight against discriminatin, racism and child labur and fr better health, equal educatin pprtunities fr bys and girls, and the integratin f handicapped peple in sciety, are sme f the pririties that FIFA has been cncentrating n fr many years.
