Central to six games over Minnesota and 10 1/2-up on third place Detroit. ALL ABOARD THE CAIN TRAIN--Lorenzo Cain s week began with his first-ever All-Star Game appearances, going 2-for-3 with a double last Tuesday and ended with a home run off of Chicago southpaw Chris Sale on Sunday...though in consideration but unable to win the MVP honors last Tuesday, his consolation prize was taking Co-American League Player of the Week honors with Houston hurler Dallas Keuchel...Cain batted.412 (7-for-17) during the 4-game stop in Chicago with a pair of homers...he has now hit safely in eight straight at a.455 clip (15-for-33) with nine runs scored, four doubles, four homers and nine RBI, while amassing an OPS of he is baseball s hottest hitter in the month of July, batting.451 (23-for-51) in 13 games with 13 runs scored, with six doubles, a triple, four homers, 12 RBI and an OPS of over a much longer haul, LoCain has hit safely in 27 of his last 31 contests at a.385 clip (45-for-117) with 20 runs, 11 doubles, three triples, six homers, 22 RBI and an OPS of he s also 9-for-10 in stolen base attempts in that stretch. STINT--Southpaw Danny Duffy has removed any doubt related to his health after a 5-week stint on the disabled list, posting a 2-1 mark and 2.27 ERA in five starts since being activated...yesterday could easily be tabbed the top single-game performance of his career, firing a personal best 8.0 shutout innings before allowing a solo homer to the only man he faced in the ninth on a day where the Kansas City bullpen had been depleted over the first three games of the series...he has been most impressive in his last three outings, going 2-0 with a 1.21 ERA, allowing just three earned runs in 22.1 innings...the home run in the ninth yesterday halted a streak of 17.1 consecutive scoreless innings.
