Durham is coming off a 1-6 homestand against the Clippers (0-4) and the Toledo Mud Hens (1-2), and is just 1-7 over its last eight games. Columbus - the Cleveland Indians' top affiliate - was swept by Norfolk in a three-game set from Monday through Wednesday, after putting together a five-game winning streak. The Clippers are in June, and have lost four straight home games. Last Time Out After a 2:52 rain delay - and a 9:57 p.m. first pitch - Durham fell to Toledo in the rubber match of a three-game set After falling behind 7-0 through five innings, Durham scored seven in the sixth to tie the contest, before surrendering a run in the eighth and two in the ninth to drop their second straight series. More About Thursday LHP Scott Diamond surrendered a career-high 14 hits... The 17 hits allowed by the Bulls was tied for the most surrendered in a single game this season... Durham allowed four home runs, the most in a single game since they allowed five to Toledo, 7/27/14 at the DBAP... The Bulls dropped a series of at least three games to the Mud Hens at the DBAP for the first time since 4/14-4/17/06, when Toledo won 3-of-4... The series loss marked the first time all season Durham dropped consecutive home series. Series With Columbus Tonight's games kick off the second of three series between the two teams this season, with Columbus returning to Durham from 8/22-8/23 after sweeping the Bulls in a four-game set at the DBAP from 6/18-6/21. The sweep last weekend marked the first time Durham lost a series to Columbus since 5/21-5/24/11 (when Columbus swept a four-game set in Ohio), and marked the first time Columbus swept Durham at the DBAP since 4/23-4/25/07 when the Clippers took a three-game set. Serve It Up After allowing four home runs in Thursday night's loss, Durham has now surrendered 16 homers in its last eight games, in which the team is 1-7. The Bulls have now allowed 52 dingers in 2015, second in the IL only to Columbus (58). Mound Struggles Over Durham's seven-game homestand - in which it went the team's starters went 0-3 with a 7.79 ERA (34.2 IP, 30 ER). On only one occasion did a starter post a quality start (LHP Scott Diamond, 6/19), while the staff allowed 55 hits over those 34.2 innings. In the four games against the Clippers, Bulls' starters went 0-2 with a 5.66 ERA (20.2 IP, 13 ER), surrendering 26 hits in that span. Five Or More? Thursday night the Bulls scored five runs and lost for the second straight game, falling to 21-5 on the season when scoring at least five runs. Of those five losses, 3 have come over the team's last 11 games. Road Sweet Road Durham enters tonight's games with a mark on the road this season, 3rd-best in the IL behind Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (24-10) and Indianapolis (21-16). The Bulls are 8-4 over their last 12 road contests, and are averaging five runs/game in that span. On the season, Durham is batting.253 with 34 homers in 38 road games, compared to.242 with 25 dingers in 36 home games. One Good Inning After scoring all seven of their runs in the sixth inning of Thursday night's loss, Durham has now outscored its opponents in the sixth inning this season, while getting outscored in all other innings. Richie Rich After going 1-for-4 in Thursday night's loss, 3B Richie Shaffer leads the IL and ranks 2nd in Triple-A baseball with a.694 slugging percentage since his promotion from Double-A Montgomery on 5/24. Over that span the 24-year-old leads Triple-A baseball with nine home runs, and he has reached base safely in 21-of-24 Triple-A games this season. Thursday, he was named to the U.S. Team for the Futures Game. Close Calls With Thursday night's loss the Bulls have now played 55 games decided by three runs or fewer this season, while 32 of the team's last 37 contests have been decided by fewer than three runs.
